Re: MAD about Mad Men
So how about all these rumors/speculations that Pete will commit suicide at some point this year?

I have not heard that! But Pete did have a really really bad episode on Sunday night. He doesn't seem to be able to do anything right. |
Re: MAD about Mad Men
Apparently, and I guess I missed it, a major character dies this year per some pre-season interviews. I would have assumed Greg, but maybe not.
So how about all these rumors/speculations that Pete will commit suicide at some point this year?
I thought he was going to do it a few seasons ago after Peggy told him about the baby. Now I seriously think its just a matter of time before he does it or goes postal and takes someone else (Don? Megan?) out; they've made it a point to remind us about his rifle on numerous occasions.

Re: MAD about Mad Men
I think Pete is struggling with what a lot of young just married with kids guy's struggle with, obviously it is blown up for TV but there is definitely a state of confusion for some men going from the single guy to the family guy.
I can remember just after getting married going to Vegas for the weekend with my wife and seeing other guy outings around us while I was in my mind at the time thinking I am "stuck" with her. Now after being married for over 5 years and two kids I can more then say I have no desire for the single life. |

That is right! Nice catch. It would take the death of a partner to really shake up the show and Peter seems to be prime but of course this show has a way of leading you down a path then BAM! Don is making out with a guy (or something from left filed hits you). |
Re: MAD about Mad Men
Maybe that's why he got the office with the window
|
Re: MAD about Mad Men
I tell you what I think's gonna happen. I think Ken Cosgrove will murder Pete or some broad. There's has been an creepy obsession with serial killers since the new season started. It's been very dark from one episode to the next if you think about.
I think Cosgrove sees everyone as characters in a novel he's writing and will take it upon himself to eliminate one. |
Re: MAD about Mad Men
Oh, Don definitely won't die guys. You can mark his name of the list of potentials. Ditto Roger Sterling.
Oh, Don definitely won't die guys. You can mark his name of the list of potentials. Ditto Roger Sterling.
I guess I was thinking of Pete eventually killing Don to end the series in a few seasons. But that would be some crazy Shizzz.
|
Re: MAD about Mad Men
I guess another possibility is Bert Cooper
|
Re: MAD about Mad Men
Naw, that ain't happening. I mean it could, but Don is the type to self-destruct. Would be totally of script for him to get murdered.
Pete had a bad ****ing day at the office. Old boy Layne Price knocked him around pretty good in the conference room while all the big wigs were watching. The young college girl at the driver's ed school dumped him for the much younger guy beau and to top it off, Don Draper repaired Pete's kitchen sink in front of his wife and the other invited guests. Yeah, I think Pete's about to have nervous breakdown. The main reason I don't think Pete will commit suicide is because he's too full of himself and hate's to be embarrassed in front of his peers. Suicide would be the ultimate loser moment for him if he did that. |
Re: MAD about Mad Men
Somewhere else I read maybe he randomly dies in this

Now that's Mad interesting.

Re: MAD about Mad Men
So Bett's new husband, Henry, is a GOP aid and in the midst of a political race. He could possibly be flying to D.C. or Betty, perhaps, and they die in the plane crash.

Just found a link to this on EW.com. Hilarious!

I believe Pete's dad died in an American Airlines crash |
Re: MAD about Mad Men
Very cool episode. Despite his overbearing personality, Pete's always held Don in the highest regard. On one hand, he's following in the steps of early Don ... Once Pete turned partner, he's been slowly settling in a new skin. On the other hand, he maintains a very naive perception of Don ("I'm not as virtuous as you, so you leave me in the wind?"). It's one part professional adoration, one part yearning father figure.
Loved the Cosgrove voiceover to end the episode. The brilliant prose not only showcased the character's talent, but also punctuated Pete's emptiness in a creative way. |
Re: MAD about Mad Men
This episode was interesting... Roger's trip was hilarious. And my my, Peggy sure is a handful.

Re: MAD about Mad Men
Door is opening for Roger and Joan. Hope they don't get rid of Jane though...love me some Peyton List

Yeah, I think I've set aside a little space for some Jane (Trudy's going to be mad haha). She was beyond hot in this ep. Roger is a maroon! All the guys on this show are maroons for the women they toss. |

Didn't realize it but she grew up in Baltimore. |
Re: MAD about Mad Men
Roger's BJ from Meghan's mom was classic.

Roger is slowly beating out Draper for best character. Dudes hilarious. |
Re: MAD about Mad Men
What'd everyone think? Pretty heavy turns, but I loved the female spectrum represented by Joan, Peggy and Megan.

Honestly, that was one of the best episodes of Mad Men ever for me. Everything about it was fantastic. I've liked this season a lot, but I didn't think there were any episodes that I would necessarily call "gripping;" until this one, I absolutely couldn't look away. |
Re: MAD about Mad Men
Fantastic episode. Still trying to see where they're going with Lane. His advice to Joan was certainly self-serving. I was, of course, disappointed in Joan's decision but I suppose it was to take care of her kid. And I suspect to not depend on Roger anymore. I thought Roger was a bit of a coward too with the "I won't like it, but I won't do anything to stop it"
I'm interested to see how they integrate Peggy's new work into the story lines. |
Re: MAD about Mad Men
It was nice to see tinkle pants back.
The scene when Peggy quit was just so intense. It is what you wish would happen when you quit a job. Don was so blind sided by it he was literately in shock. On a side note after seeing Peggy's salary number I wish I could take my current salary and transport back to the 60's, I be King of the Hill! |
Re: MAD about Mad Men
"Let's pretend like everything that's good that's happened in your life isn't because of me"...may not be the best way to start a conversation when trying to keep an employee
They should add Joan's name to the building to spite Campbell. Sterling Cooper Draper Price Holloway |
It's pretty incredible how composed Peggy remained after getting that cash thrown in her face. Her reaction is a testament to how highly she looks up to him... and her departure came full circle. Peggy is exactly the monster (not in a bad way) he created. |

Agreed. This ep totally blew me away. |

Re: MAD about Mad Men
One thing I thought was really cool:
Inside Mad Men Episode 5-11 I've always heard that Hamm and Moss really like and respect each other, but it's pretty well captured in this scene. Apparently, the tears were real because she didn't know that Don would be kissing her hand and holding onto her for so long. |
Re: MAD about Mad Men
I wish I was smarter so I could come up with something better than "holy hell," but HOLY HELL!!! What an amazing episode!!!
SPOILERS BELOW!!! There's been a cloud of death over this whole season, so I think this was the first time in a while that we, the audience, could sort of guess what was going to happen with a character, but that certainly didn't lessen the shock. The image of Lane just hanging there is going to stick with me for awhile (not to mention the truly horrible site from the museum). Everything about his story line was so sad and pathetic, but I think it really fit with his character. When he broke his glasses, it reminded me of the 2nd or 3rd season when his English bosses came to NYC (I think it was the infamous John Deere episode) and he quickly took them off before meeting with the higher ups. I guess he always felt like having to wear them was a sign of weakness. Then with the car not starting after all the jokes about them was brilliant! I don't know where the show will go from here but obviously the impact of Lane's act and Peggy leaving the company will definitely have a profound impact on Don next season. Such a good freaking show!!! |
Re: MAD about Mad Men
Oh man Iwent to bed early and missed it. I have to watch tonight. Sounds like it was a gem after seeing the above "Holy Hell" comment.

Where I love to hate Pete it would sucked if he had died (some speculate earlier in the season his death) because I enjoy watching his life unfold. What was Don's relationship with Sally's BFF's mom? I forgot. Did they sleep together? |
Re: MAD about Mad Men
I had also thought Pete might be the one to determine his own fate, but never wanted it to be him. Pete Campbell is one of my favorite characters on the show
That said Lane Pryce was one of my favorite people on the show. But what an ending, what a sad and tragic ending to someone who was so under-appreciated for what he meant to the creation and emergence of SCDP. Don's reaction was remarkable, probably thinking back to when his half-brother committed suicide by hanging himself. Don had no relations with Helen Bishop, she was just the neighbor. |

I think it was she got a divorce and it scared Sally the same could happen to her parents. |
