Yeah, it's about time we faced a really difficult schedule so there aren't anymore excuses for mediocrity and mediocre teams(like making the playoffs in Gibbs 2.0). Inspired by the [blank] Mike Singletary, "WE WILL" lose a ton of games this season.
So I take it you won't be posting anymore for the rest of the season you have us at 17 Losses. 3 games don't make a season & beleive me it's hard for me to say that but I've got to keep hope alive.

Sure doesn't take much for some to jump off the ledge eh?

All I'm going to say it's a very long season.

Re: Lets keep things into perspective and not panic people!

a very long season in which we get to enjoy and watch an entertaining offense and a defense come together.

i cant believe the number of members on here wanting haslett fired, switch back to the 4-3, etc.

if we go back to our season prediciton poll, im guessin a large majority of us had the skins at 8-8 or worse.

1 close win against dallas in week 1 and our pre-regular season expectatons get tossed out the window and now its superbowl or bust?

i dont understand the fans that are writing off this season, shanny and haslett.

i swear, skins fans are some of the worst in the league. petulent yuppy entitled whiney lil girls.

Re: Lets keep things into perspective and not panic people!

Listening to fans call in on NFL radio always makes me feel better. Skins fans aren't unique in wanting to fire everyone, cut everyone, question every play call, decision, etc. It's definitely league wide.

Skin fans are the most optimistic fans in the league. I don't think we are asking for to much anymore. We should have a winning team by now. enough excuses already! Its always "were building" "next year" "we need to get use to the new scheme" ect....
Other teams do it with New Schemes, new QB's, Rookies, and so on....

LOL - I bet if we go back and get posts from every other year it would be the same ole crap. Getting use to the scheme, the personal, new offense blah blah blah. The funny thing is this, the only part of our team that has been consistantly top notch is the Defense. Well, why not change that and blow to hell too! Now, not only are we the same ole crap on offense and stink might as well blow it up and stink on D too! The switching to a 3-4 was all Shanny's idea. And I loved it when I heard, but watching this group perform on the field, and realizing we just dont have the horses to run it, is horrible. I hope shanny puts the EGO aside and says ok guys, lets play the 4-3 until we get the horses.

Sorry, the Jason Campbell affair has taught not to let my homerism blind me from reality, and the reality is that this defense will not be able to handle the ELITE talent that they're going to face.

Not to mention we face Chris Johnson, Adrian Peterson, and Maurice Jones Drew as well.

Do tell me what exactly Golston, Holliday, Carter, Kemo, AH, etc are going to improve in? They've hit their primes or are past it. Any improvement will be small and not matter much.

Everyone is capable of improving in this scheme. They were all capable players a year ago, once they get more comfortable in this system I definitely expect an overall improvement from the D.

He doesn't have his NT play "laterally" all the damn time. He's more competent than Haslett.

Need I remind you of a man named Brian Stewart? After he got canned and Tubby officially took over playcalling of the 2008 Cowboys D, they got "nastier" and finished the season with a ton of sacks. They've stymied the Skins'(and many other) offenses ever since.

He also helped improve the Chargers' defense. In 2003, before he got there, the Chargers were 27th in yards allowed. By 2006, they were 10th in yards allowed. In the years inbetween, their rankings increased.

In contrast, when Haslett took over a top tier defense in Pittsburgh, their rankings declined every year right up until the year he left.

why do i keep hearing hire Wade PHilips? Isn't he still employed?? come one people. It isn't the freaking coach, well Haslett anyway. We dont have the players. Shanny needs to recognize and say "ok lets go to the 4-3 more often, give some 3-4 looks, but basic 4-3 as our mainstay.

omg this has been the longest redskins week i can remember in quite some time .. WADE PHILLIPS ... why the hell are we even talking about this guy .. he's the god damn cowboys coach for crying out loud .. there aren't going to be any changes don't you get it ? don't you understand that Bruce Allen is here to bring stability not a bunch of instant changes ? don't you get that we didnt' get VJ because we don't want to give up a bunch of draft picks ? Don't you get that Shanny likes Torrain and that he will be the feature back by years end ? don't you get that McNabb has still looked great this year and will still win us 4-5 games on his OWN .. the defense will come around and is certainly not a last place D .. they DO HAVE TALENT .. god I hope each and every player has felt the pain and anger in Skins' nation this week and they just unload this shit on Vick's head _
:duel:

Re: Lets keep things into perspective and not panic people!

^Agreed. Shannahan wanted the 3-4 and that's why Haslett was hired: to bring in a 3-4 defense. There's no way he goes back on that decision 3 games in when the team has spent months preparing to play in this scheme. Also, the team has shown flashes of being able to "put it all together". There have been drives where the defense has a big play/stop and they really look good. I don't believe it's Haslett or the scheme holding them back, merely comfort in this scheme. Give it half way through the season to really judge this defense.

I thought the refs missed 2 calls last game but wasn't sure but after re-watching the game:

Moss got face-masked on that fumble.
-sorry no pics for this one but just look at any replay you can see it

Although i thought Galloway was right during the game when looking for the Pass Interference call i'm sure now the DB held Galloway's arm down before the ball was there blown call.

Re: Lets keep things into perspective and not panic people!

There were a lot of home town calls. It seemed like the refs wanted Rams to win.

On the topic of change and that Allen will side with continuity, in the NFL when a team does not meet up to expectations there is always a fall guy. There is always a coordinator that gets fired just to make the restless happy. I do not agree with it, it is just how the NFL works. If the Cowboys do not make the 2nd round of the playoffs i do not see Wade staying in Dallas.
If the Redskins defense does not show improvement by mid-season, Haslett will be the fall guy....and probably the special team coach.
There were a lot of home town calls. It seemed like the refs wanted Rams to win.

.
I hope you are alone in thinking that the referees determined the outcome of the Rams/Skins game last weekend - - - because if that thinking prevails in the upper echelons of "Redskins Park" the team is doomed to chasing just one more player who needs to get paid and who will then put the Skins over the top and into the Super Bowl. Other than "The Incredible Hulk", I am not sure who that single player might be.

And for the record, "The Incredible Hulk" has the same "real world football skills" as Chad Rinehart - - who LOADS of folks here were convinced was a star in the making if only the coaches would let him get on the field. Reality Bites: Rinehart can't play!

The Redskins need major roster changes in order to become a playoff contender. However, roster changes for the sake of roster changes to let marginal players on the field for the rest of 2010 or even 2011 makes little sense - - unless you are 100% certain that this iteration of Skins management will not whiff on any of the high draft picks it would gather by that on-field losing strategy this year and next.. If they can do that, they will be the first NFL organixation to achieve that goal in the history of the league.

Barring good fortune so great that it is less than 1% likely to happen, the Redskins need at least two more solid draft classes (from rounds 1 THRU rround 7) to become a playoff "playah". It may even take 3 such fortuitous drafts.

Think about this for a moment...

Most people here would fall all over themselves to declare that at least 4 of the defensive starters this year are "beasts". Sorry, the reality is that the defense has ONE certifiable star - - still in the making - - and four better than average players. That leaves 6 defensive players on the field at any time who are average or less...

Other than Trent Williams, please do not delude yourself into thinking that ANYONE on the OL in 2010 is more than a serviceable backup on any NFL team that plans on still playing in mid-January.

Other than Santana Moss, who would be a nationally recognized star on a team that had a true #1 WR to allow Moss the luxury of single coverage most of the time, the Skins have zero WRs who are anything more than special-teams filler for real contending teams.

And the beat goes on...

It is going to take a while to overcome the talent deficiency that accumulated here in the Vinny Cerrato/Danny Boy Snyder Era of personnel oversight. If the fans get too impatient, Danny Boy may be tempted to "take charge" once again. I hope everyone here knows how that chapter in Redskins history will end...

Patience folks...patience...

Well it has been 4 days since we lost to the RAMS and I very surprised how pittyful we played as a team. That was worst than the Lions game from last season. I'm still trying to figure out how Roydell Williams is playing ahead of Devin Thomas. You have to be kiddin me that Devin is that bad that he can not play WR for us. I would rather have Brandon Banks playing right now at least he maybe able to get open during the game. We need to play our youngs now and let the learn the system for next season, Galloway and Willams will not be back. I dont know if we will beat Philly but I will watch and see cause I'm a Redskins Fan for Life. I just want us to start building our team through the Draft, not through free agents.

I just dont understand why everyone wants to blame the coaches when its the players that just arent good enough. They have never done anything yet fans still seem to think they arent the reason this team isnt winning. The Skins just arent a very talented team and wont be for awhile.

I wouldn't put it all on the players. Scheme definitely has something to do with it. A unit that ranked in the top 10 last year is suddenly last? I just think the 3-4 is a big adjustment and it's going to take time for everyone to get on the same page.

I dont blame Haslett,he is what he is.On the other hand,Shanahan's ego has got to be bigger than Snyders. The games he's playing are hurting the team,IMO.What do you call a person who has a top 5 defense,a dominating nose tackle, personel equiped to play a 4-3 defense, and you decide to switch to a 3-4,why? I call that person dumb as frickin rock,it doesnt make any sense. If the defense was in the bottom 5 and you dont have Haynesworth, then why not make the move, but otherwise its just plain dumb and Shanahan has just set the franchise back a couple of yrs.Just when its Mcnabbs time to retire maybe the defense will be good again:soapbox:

They were top 10 in yds but lets face it, when the game was on the line they never came through with a big stop or created a turnover. That top 10 is very misleading.

I'm not saying the top 10 ranking meant all was well, but the fact they are getting totally gashed for yards right now tells me there's more to blame than just the players.

Re: Lets keep things into perspective and not panic people!

The way this season has started, it's obviously testing the patience of the faithful.

There are areas of concern, some relevant to players abilities [or lack thereof] some relevant to coaches decisions. When considering everything involved, a good case can be made for both concerns. The points you guys are making are valid and you're joined by a whole host of others wondering the same things.

Mattyk, you need to put up a new poll this week.... Who gets more carries? Portis or Torain? Portis may be done as our feature back.

Sure doesn't take long to kick a player to the curb around here eh?

I think they'll continue to split carries, CP is too valuable as a blocker too.

irish 09-30-2010 10:22 AM

Re: Lets keep things into perspective and not panic people!

They will split carries but CPs days here are numbered especially after his slide last week and then saying that's what the coaches told him to do. Shanny doesnt think much of RBs anyway so I wouldnt be surprised to see Shanny try something new at RB.

I think Portis' production wasn't that bad last week and Torain cannot pass block. Portis may be the best pass blocking back in the league. So it makes no sense to run him out of town right now.
