So Chad Simpson is not going to contribute now? Both practice squad depth? Williams was going to return regardless of CP's status...like Banks, I think he was just a weekly roster shuffle, not a permanent cut, so I wouldn't read into CP's season status too much with a practice squad signing...James is just replacing Keiland's PS RB spot. Portis 4-6 confirmed. Twitter / Ryan O'Halloran: Portis out 4-6 weeks says ... Shame, he was running VERY well...looked rejuvenated. |

Shanahan is saying Chad Simpson will be the no. 2 back behind Torain this weekend
Torain!!!!!!!!! |

Who did they cut to make room for Williams in the roster? Will they IR Portis?
3rd degree separation of the groin (don't know what that means exactly but any separation of the groin from the bone sound awful!). Out 4-6 weeks. Official now. Link coming shortly I'm sure
re: Portis heard his groin "pop" (out 4-6 weeks)
My money is CP is done this year and with the Skins.

re: Portis heard his groin "pop" (out 4-6 weeks)
Simpson #2? Wow.
Why not Keiland? I think he's proven himself. |
re: Portis heard his groin "pop" (out 4-6 weeks)
We've gone from Portis, Johnson, and Parker in the preseason to Torain, Simpson, and Williams.

Very possible. Ryan Grant was IR'ed even though he could have come back midseason or something. |

More like performance in the case of LJ and Wille and injury in the case of Portis. |

Grant tore an ankle ligament, an injury with a 10-12 week healing process. Portis has a 4-6 week injury at this point. If he had not been performing well prior to the injury, there could be a reason to IR him, but if we can get 8 games out of him and or even bring him back for a playoff push, we should. |

You're probably right at this point, but I also think KW will be the backup. From the article you posted:
Most likely, Ryan Torain will start at running back, and Williams will be elevated to the 53-man roster some time this week (going off the last two weeks’ roster moves, late Friday or Saturday). Chad Simpson, who was added two weeks ago, but was inactive against St. Louis and used only on special teams last week, likely would be the third running back on Sunday.
|
re: Portis heard his groin "pop" (out 4-6 weeks)
I think this might be the end of Portis as a Skin, especially if the other guys step and contribute.
|
re: Portis heard his groin "pop" (out 4-6 weeks)
Here's to hoping that Torain takes the job and never looks back. But if CP is healthy and ready to come back at some point this year, he will be back in the lineup in some type of role.

Portis has performed marginally well this year. He wasnt on pace for a monster year, or anything like that. If Torain, or any of the other backs are running well, especially if we are a playoff team by the point Portis could return, why would they go back to a guy who hasn't played in 6 weeks and is probably out of shape? Seriously....when playoffs are here or on the line, you stick with whats working. Torain could be hot by midseason. Like others have said. My money is that CP is done as a redskin. |
re: Portis heard his groin "pop" (out 4-6 weeks)
Here's hoping Torain can....BLOCK!

re: Portis heard his groin "pop" (out 4-6 weeks)
I doubt he's done as a Redskins but he's no longer our Number 1 RB

re: Portis heard his groin "pop" (out 4-6 weeks)
Julius Jones is out there LOL
|
re: Portis heard his groin "pop" (out 4-6 weeks)
He's in the final year of his ginourmous contract.
If he is a redskin next year, it means that he has agreed to a lesser contract, and most likely a much lesser role. Knowing Portis, do you really believe he'd agree to that? I'd guess he figures that he could still start in the league, and get Starter money. I see a handful of teams wanting him as a backup, but i dont think anybody would want him as a starter...could i be wrong? |
re: Portis heard his groin "pop" (out 4-6 weeks)
CP has already proved your wrong on several counts before SS84, so why not again? Hell you didn't even think he would be on the team this year.

Re: Portis heard his groin "pop" (out 4-6 weeks)
Clinton Portis out four to six weeks with groin injury
Updated 3:35 p.m. Washington Redskins running back Clinton Portis will miss four to six weeks with a third-degree separation of his left groin, Coach Mike Shanahan said Wednesday, leaving the bulk of the team's carries - at least temporarily - for second-year back Ryan Torain, who has a history of injuries himself. Portis suffered the injury in the third quarter of Sunday's 17-12 victory at Philadelphia, a game in which he rushed for 55 yards and Torain added 70, including a touchdown. Shanahan said Portis's injury would not require surgery. "It's a temporary setback," Shanahan said. "Those things happen during the season. Clinton's tough. He'll get a lot of rehab here. Hopefully, it'll be four weeks rather than six weeks, but a third-degree separation is off the bone. |
Re: Portis heard his groin "pop" (out 4-6 weeks)
"off the bone"
Ugh, guess that explains why he heard a pop |

lolololol....you know Solid just cant wait for CP to be gone. I know CP has been a great player for us and actaully like his game. But Im kinda done with his comments and his attitude since Gibbs left was just bad. So if it is over, wish him the best, but im ready to see a new number 1 in the backfield. Can we just please let SS84 create the thread when its officially over for CP, whether its this year or in a couple? |

Damn, really was looking forward to him breaking Riggins record too. DAMN DAMN DAMN.

Re: Portis heard his groin "pop" (out 4-6 weeks)
It's a long season. He could be out until week 9 or 10, of 17 total weeks. I wouldn't put a fork in Portis this year yet. Heck, if we make the playoffs, he might even have relatively fresh legs then.

Like i said before. I made peace with my Portis issue, and decided that i'd let his play on the field this season form my opinion. He seemed like a changed guy. He looked quicker, faster... Im not going to make a thread when he leaves here. I cant deny his role to this team over the last 7 seasons. He proved me wrong this year. I admit. But its time for a change. He will find work with another team, maybe even this one, but not as a starter, i dont think. |
Re: Portis heard his groin "pop" (out 4-6 weeks)
His days as a full time starter were over even before this injury.
But as a role player, 3rd down back, he's definitely still valuable. I would guess he would still want to continue on here in D.C. with Shanahan and would take a reasonable contact to do so. We'll see how things go and if Shanahan wants him back, that's probably the key more than anything. |

Fresh legs? Hell, if his legs aren't fresh going into the fourth game of the season, forget about it. |

I would bring back Portis at a modest price. |

I disagree, thus ending Portis as being a Skin after this year. If we fired Vinny sooner, maybe his tenure would have been extended but we ran him into the ground all those years and w/o drafting a compliment or replacement back we stuck with Betts all those years. Come back and finish strong for us CP but Im sure his days here are done. He's just too much money to be injured EVERY year it seems. McNabb/this team aren't getting any younger, we have to moved on and do whats best. |

I meant that he would miss five future weeks of wear-and-tear. If he does come back, he got a mid-season vacation from taking hits, so we shouldn't have to worry about him wearing down near season's end. |
Re: Portis heard his groin "pop" (out 4-6 weeks)
why not resign LJ or Parker.
|
Re: Portis heard his groin "pop" (out 4-6 weeks)
I love Portis...his pass blocking will be sorely missed, especially by that POS Rabach. As for his future with the Skins, I don't know. I am sure the Skins will draft a running back next year.

Re: Portis heard his groin "pop" (out 4-6 weeks)
Looking at next year's draft if LaMichael James opts for the draft we should definitely do what it takes to get him.

Absolute NO to LJ. He cost us a game, can't pass block, and looked done. And we have Edge's cousin on the PS. We cannot let him go. :D |
