LOL! I just dislike facebook it may be my only connection with A&W.

But if it is some people's thing then it is their thing more power to them.

The funny thing with FB is that there is no mold for the type of users. I'd also say if you purchased any stock in FB I'd sell it when you can.

What a sham. It's a shame guys can get away with stuff like this. Rob a bank, and you get 50 years in prison. Rob the nation and billions of dollars, and you get a severance package worth hundreds of millions of dollars. The golden rule. He who steals all the gold, gets to decide on the rules.

Re: Your Opinion on Facebook

Trust me, if you all started posting the crap that's on FB, I'd leave here too.

All of those "motivational" posters saying it's great that women can be fat...all of those bathroom mirror photos you love...updates on where you are at this very moment and where you'll be in 5 minutes...pictures of your toddler on the toilet or napping with a cat...I've seen my wife's FB wall and it makes me want to throw up.

Here...it's all about football and bacon.

It's easy enough to delete or block annoying stuff on FB. It's what you want it to be, basically.

Exactly I choose to delete everything; my non-account is exactly how I like it.

Like I said before if it your thing fine I just want no part of it.

Re: Your Opinion on Facebook

I also dislike facebook greatly. I have an account with a picture and some basic info for the rare occassion an old friend wants to get in touch. I login once every 4 or so months to check my requests/etc. I dislike their stance on security and privacy. I understand that my personal data will be used to sell advertising -- that's fine, you have to make money. But the way they're getting into the photo recognition and selling that info complete with geotags, etc makes me nervous.

We're going to see facebooks decline in the near future. When my grandma friend requests me, a technology is pretty much dead. The younger generation is already moving away from it seeing the 'trouble' it has caused for their siblings/etc. I loved facebook when you needed a .edu address to get an account. It was perfect for staying in touch with everyone that went to different schools. Now it's filled with religious and political propoganda (on both sides) that I don't want to deal with while online.

Re: Your Opinion on Facebook

They also have shareholders to please now...so it's going to be a "screw the users, we're doing this for the profits" approach from here out.

I'd get ready for security features you don't like, selling of your identity and probably a ton of ads plus new features you have to pay for.

Look at how quickly Facebook replaced Myspace. Facebook will go down too. So, gee, lets buy some stock in it!

Re: Your Opinion on Facebook

I think Facebook's strongest aspect is the Groups feature. We have a trail runners group of about 200 people that share race info, training schedules, medical issues, nutrition, etc all on a local level. I also post my Runkeeper activities because a few people told me it keeps them a bit motivated to go out and run when they didn't want to that day.

However, if you have to start paying for anything then I'm out.

Indeed. My first "experience" w/ Facebook years ago convinced me it wasn't worth the nonsense. A business associate I barely knew contacted me after seeing pictures on Facebook of me boating w/ a girl he liked (actually there was at least a dozen of us boating). He's old enough to be her father and it creeped all of us out. I guess "trolling" around Facebook is a common thing for creepers. Anyway, the whole thing turned me away from it...looks like things may trend back my direction now after all eh?

That's still beside the point. The point is the intrusion on privacy and spying on it's on citizens.

The article mentions this little tidbit too:
Susan Cooper, a spokeswoman for National Archives and Records Administration, said the presidential records law applies to “social media” and to public comments “received by the president or immediate staff.”
I'm sure this primarily applies to people who make disparaging comments about the W.H. and/or the President. Does it bother me that the W.H. might be recording these comments? No. No doubt this is probably another security/safety measure. There's a fine line between user privacy and government security, and I don't think this crosses it.
