He's missed from 40+, he's got a strong leg & he's young. I think he's missed one under 40 plus a block this year. He's hit a lot of 40+ this year too, some of them pretty clutch like yesterday, also the 49 yarder v. Dallas to put us up 6.
Um, he has also missed clutch kicks like yesterday. He also missed kicks against hou (two missed) and the colts. Both of those game we lost by 3 points.

Gano has been ok. He's missed some long ones. Big deal. There isn't anyone else out there that's better. Everytime the guy misses someone wants a new kicker.

The Houston one is tough to pin on him, it was 52 yards & he nailed it the first time. Hard to ask a guy to do that twice. He missed yesterday sunday from 47 & 51, those are not high probability kicks.

When kickers miss under 40 kicks w/some consistency then you've got a problem.

also, the other houston miss was blocked, not his fault. Don't remember how long the colts kick was.

Re: Graham Gano has to Go !!

Lets not also forget that many of our games have rested on him. We have had what, 3 OT's already this season? Thats a lot to put on any kicker. I say if we would get into the end zone more often and stop bringing games down to the wire, he would put up the extra points. Gano is playing just as well as 95% as the rest of the team.

Re: Graham Gano has to Go !!

Gano has been good for the positions he has been put in. He is in the top 5 (at least he was before Sunday) for attempts of 40+ yards. When you have to kick from that far, there are a lot of factors that the kicker has no control over. The hold has to be perfect, the wind can move the ball easily over that much distance, and the spot has a huge impact.

I am not saying he is great, but in reality, there is no kicker available that is any better right now. Maybe during the offseason they bring in some competition for him, but right now, he is the best we can have.

Thank you Scott! He's had 2 dome games, the rest were outdoors. Dome kickers that get at least 8 games indoors have a serious advantage statistically.

Actually, I'm saying he could be great. If Kubiak doesn't call that time out in Houston & that 52 yarder stands, we would be 6-4 & might not even have had this thread (no offense to those that agree w/the original poster).

I am not going to say he COULD be great though. This is why, Adam V. kicked for New England for how many years? Look at some of the kicks he has made in terrible weather to win games. Now, can Gano be really good, I think he could. He needs to mature. Spend the offseason practicing the long kicks from both hash marks, in bad weather and all that. No you can't expect your kicker to make every 40+ yard FG, but a great kicker isn't going to regularly miss 30-36 yarders just because of wind, he needs to learn how to adjust better for the situation then he will be great.

Re: Graham Gano has to Go !!

This isn't even a discussion. Gano has consistently made the field goals he's expected to make. Without the name of a specific kicker who is better than Gano and currently unemployed, the call for Gano's release is absurd and stupid. Enough of this reactionary nonsense.

Re: Graham Gano has to Go !!

This is my thing with Gano, he seems like he can be a great kicker, just needs some work a bit. I'd hate to see him being the next Akers and we just let him go.
Why is everyone giving him a pass but bashed SS. Gano has an average of 73.1 and SS average around 84% but people wanted him gone.
You prefer Swishey? Seriously? Gano has hit some huge FG's (Dallas, GB, Tenn) and his kickoffs are consistently 5 yards deeper than Suisham's were here.

Anyone who seriously prefers Shuisam over Gano just doesn't understand the game.

I talked to a Pittsburgh fan who is absolutely horrified about there kicking situation after one game with that POS.

He singlehandedly lost two gimme games for us last year, NO and the one in Dallas which is inexcusable.

Yeah I mean the guy has missed 10 FGs this year. That's pretty bad.

Re: Graham Gano has to Go !!

If the team had playoff intentions I'd be worried. He can take blame for sucking and missing but why is our team so impotent in the redzone? We can move the ball all we want but no TD's and miss FG's isnt a good tactic to winning.

Re: Graham Gano has to Go !!

Gano is what he is. Mediocre. He's the Carlos Rogers of kickers. Good at kickoffs, shitty at scoring. We need to look at someone new this offseason...if there isn't a lockout.

Re: Graham Gano has to Go !!

Just heard that Gano just signed a long term contract w/ garunteed money but he says he wont be a bust and will be the best we've ever had so I believe him.

Where is everyone that wanted to lynch Sushiam last year and was thrill when he was cut?

What ya think, leading the NFL in missed field goals, should he go?

Nope he was garbage, but i heard alot of excuses this year with Gano. Want to see if kicker is still the proper scape goat

To miss the field goals he miss is inexcusable! These misses are cut worthy offense. Can we do better than him? Probably not but at this point he add no value to this team.

I think I can probably count the number of indispensable players on this roster one hand, and still have a couple of fingers left. Beyond Orakpo T Williams and maybe Landry and London, not sure anyone should feel safe

I couldn't figure out why eveyone was giving him a pass from the start. It was allot of the people who said SS had to go and I take him over this pecker head.

Beyond Orakpo T Williams and maybe Landry and London, not sure anyone should feel safe
If we stay in the 3-4, Orakpo would be the only player that would really have trade value and as much as I think he can be a superstar in the 4-3 at RDE, he will likley only be a solid OLB. He's a guy that is much better with his hand in the dirt. If we stay 3-4 and could get an NT for him or a pick that would net us a starting NT we should make that move.

Are you saying trade proven stud Orakpo for unsure draft picks?

Well although missing those field goals today (not the last one, that one was on HS) was pretty pathetic, I can't help but remember david akers... Sometimes these young guys just have to get a good rhythm or work ethic going.

Re: Graham Gano has to Go !!

I know everyone always fears we're missing out on the next Akers, but we've cut a lot more kickers that have gone on to sell cars to make a living than Pro Bowl kickers. Maybe, just maybe, Gano won't amount to any more than he is

Well knowing our luck, if we cut him he'll become great and if we don't he'll continue to suck haha...

What are the chances of him not kicking next week? Didnt he get hurt on that botched extra point?

Re: Graham Gano has to Go !!

Heard one of the talking heads on TV say that the Redskins have had 16 kickers in the last 15 years - - since Chip Lohmiller cashed it in.

You would think that just once the special teams coaches here could have found a long-term keeper, no?

Gano has missed 10 FGs this year which is the highest in the NFL.

Meanwhile just to rub salt in the wound, Shaun Suisham is 9 for 9 with the Steelers and will be heading to the playoffs - - unless he breaks a leg.

Bringing in kickers tomorrow to work out at Redskins Park. It is Tuesday so it's not unheard of, but still...

Re: Graham Gano has to Go !!

At this point might as well ride it out with Gano and evaluate things after the season.
