The Panthers passing on Luck because they have Jimmy Clausen would have been like the Colts passing on Manning had they drafted Jake Plummer in the year before. They will cut their losses in a heartbeat to draft Luck.
Or they keep both, as I mentioned in another post many coaches and execs are starting to prepare for an 18 game season with the mentality that you need two starting QBs. Vick and Kolb. Luck and Clausen. Campbell and Gradkowski....Smith and Ponder :) |

Sorry, the cut their losses comment was misleading. Obviously if the Panthers drafted Luck it would still be a good idea to keep around Clausen. |
The funny thing is, who thought the same about Tom when he got drafted.
I looked at all of the highlights of Luck on You Tube and I just don't see what all the fanfare is for him. He throws, mostly, a Billy Kilmer ball that wobbles. I noticed that some of his deep balls have too much air under them. He has a strong arm and appears to be mobile. Does this make him the best? Does Stanford play top caliper teams? But saying he is the best QB to come out of college in last 25 years is a stretch. Bradford is much better at what he was billed to be by the experts. |

Matt Moore wants to come back to Carolina. Not sure why, he should test the market. They still have Tony Pike, who I think is way overrated. And I think they're still paying Delhomme. Carolina is QB central! |

Moffitt is who I am talking about. 5th rounder? I thought he was an All American! |

Luck is the real deal and virtually all NFL analysts agree. He lit up a top college D last night for 4 TDs. Also, the last thing this guy throws is a Kilmer-ball. |
Re: Skins have 10th overall selection. Who do we pick?
Ryan Mallett show tonight!
It should be nice to see how he plays against a team like OhioSt |

But unlike us they have a Jimmy Clausen. Since they have so many holes to fill I'd not be surprised if they draft defense #1 and go with Clausen.
I just read that if Luck enters draft Carolina will take him. Maybe a smoke screen to try to get draft picks from somebody who really wants a QB? |

That's the theory every year. Carolina will pick Luck |
Re: Skins have 10th overall selection. Who do we pick?
I would be completely in favor of trading our 10th overall for something in the 17-22 range, plus an extra 2nd round pick. I've always admired the way New England trades down, stockpiles picks, and builds quality depth through the draft.
I particularly like the way they avoid giving away multiple draft picks for washed-up has-beens and big fat malcontents. We should try that one of these years. I believe the Pats and Eagles have the most picks next year. Talk about the rich getting richer. Trade McNabb, Trade Haynesworth, Trade Cooley, Trade down and then call Ozzie Newsome and ask him who to draft with our picks. |

As a VT fan again we unfortunately were not a top college defense like we usually are. Yes we got turnovers but our run defense and yards given up this season were awful. A very young, injured and immature defense this year for sure. But I agree Luck is the real deal but him lighting up my Hokies doesn't overly impress me. |
Re: Skins have 10th overall selection. Who do we pick?
Mallet was 24/47 for 277 yards, TDs and one very costly choke pick near the end of the game.
That didn't help his draft status. |

Re: Skins have 10th overall selection. Who do we pick?
What I want more than anything in this draft is a QB It seems more and more like the qbs are all going to slip. I wouldnt mind going for the best available player with the 10, then trade back into the mid 20's and snag Locker or Mallett. It's risky but I'd pull the trigger. Hopefully this year's 2nd/6th and next years 3rd can do it.

To trade back into the first round this year with our 2nd round pick would require our first next year as well. I don't think anybody has ever traded back into the first round without either giving up multiple 2nd round picks or their first for next season. |
Re: Skins have 10th overall selection. Who do we pick?
According to this article Marvin Lewis and Carson Palmer will both be back for the Bengals next season. Only reason I'm posting that in here is because I feel the Bengals are taking themselves out of the discussion of drafting a qb this year, which is a good thing for us. Palmer didn't have a great year, esp. with throwing 20 picks, but I think once Ocho Cinco and Owens weren't playing he became a lot better, and I'd guess it's because he didn't have to worry about getting them their touches.

I'd say it was a little too small of a sample size to draw that conclusion... but if that is correct, then it says a lot about his leadership skills. He needs to be in charge of that team and if that means he has to jump down #85's throat, then so be it. |

It also helped that their no name wideouts like Simpson stepped up bigtime against the Chargers and Ravens (despite losing that game). And maybe you're right, it does say a lot about his leadership skills, but since Lewis is going to be back and they need a lot of help in other areas of the roster, I think it's safe to take them out of the qb discussion. They were iffy on getting a new qb to begin with, but it looks like Lewis is content having Palmer around next season. |
Re: Skins have 10th overall selection. Who do we pick?
Given our DL troubles, does anyone think that we could get DE Nick Fairley from Auburn, or will he be gone by #10?
|

Gone by 10 I'm sure...I think
