Re: Was Jamie Dukes out of line on Ryan Mallett?
Hands down, Peyton Manning is the best QB that will have ever played this game before it's all said and done. I think you give Brady a little too much credit for those Super Bowls
Brady has had a lot of luck and a lot of help along the way. Injury to Bledsoe? Tuck rule? One of the most reliable kickers in NFL history(kasay) kicking it out of bounds on kick off at the end of the game? Adam Vinatieri probably has won more games for the Patriots than Brady. A top ten defense each year they are in the Super Bowl (ranked either 1 or 2 in points allowed) save for maybe one year. Manning started with nothing. Brady was drafted on to a team that had talent still from it's Super Bowl appearance 4 years earlier. Brady will NEVER catch Manning's numbers. If you were to take Manning and switch him and Tom Brady, Manning could have won 3-4 more Super Bowls. It's unfortunate he's had to carry that team for so long, but you aren't going anywhere unless you have a defense come playoff time. Brady is good and somebody I would want on my team, but the guy is a lucky mother ****er too. He's got a rabbit foot stuck up his ass no doubt.
They're both great QB's but Manning has had two potential Hall of Fame wr's for a good portion of his career. For the most part, Brady has had a bunch of journeymen wr's. When he had a truly great wr you saw what type of numbers he put up. For my money I'm taking Tom Brady simply cause he doesn't turn the ball over as much. |

Brady has had an elite defense and a HOF coach. Super Bowl wins aside, I think Manning and Brady have been pretty equal and honestly I don't see the need to declare one better than the other. Each of them have had proven their greatness and each of them have overcome a lot of obstacles (Brady - lack of WRs, Manning - lack of a defense, etc., etc.). |

Re: Was Jamie Dukes out of line on Ryan Mallett?
I guess the "racist" overtone is that Jamie Dukes equates "street" to be being exclusively black.
If Jamie had just called Mallet "street" without the "caucasian" part that would have been fine but since the qualifier of "caucasian" was added, it makes inference that the speaker (jamie) equates "street" with being black. It basically like me saying "my black attorney friend" instead of just saying "my attorney friend". When you throw in the race qualifier comment, its basically saying this particular person is an exception to my sterotypes of racial beliefs. Its not overt racism, just how alot of people think. Any person white, black or purple who says they dont see/consider race is lying to themselves imo, people consciously and subconsciously factor in/consider another persons race in every situation, big or small. |

IMO Manning makes those WR's look better then they really are. He makes everyone around him better. Arguing Brady vs Manning is like deciding between a NY Strip and a Filet...both are great...just comes down to personal preference. I will take the NY Strip & Manning. |

I guess a lot depends on the team. Personally, while I don't think we're the Bengals, I don't think our team is fit to handle a rookie with questionable character issues. |

Jason Campbell was a 2-3 round grade talent. Gibbs was a fool to trade up into the first round to pick him up. He had 2 RBs while at Auburn that both went in the top 5 of that draft. He had ONE good year while at Auburn, and his other years were absolutely crap to the point where he was benched twice. In fact, the same flaws that were scouted on JC were the same flaws he displayed here in DC. I'll run them down for you.
Analysis: Positives... Has a very strong throwing arm and quick feet to avoid pressure, but is better suited throwing out of the pocket. ... Does a nice job of carrying out fakes and has a quick, high release with the strength to get the ball downfield. ... Is developing good toughness in the pocket and no longer looks for a rush lane or to hold on to the ball too long when his primary targets are covered. ... In 2004, Campbell had very good success with the deep outs, fades and posts. ... Shows better timing and the ability to give his receivers a chance to compete for the ball than he did in the past. ... Does a good job maneuvering when forced out of the pocket, but is better standing in the pocket than on the roll out, as he is more effective when he has a chance to time his throws. ... His natural athletic skills are what makes him an intriguing prospect, but understand that this is a player that has had to digest four different offensive systems during his four years in college. ... Made excellent progress in most areas of his game over the last year. ... Used to lock on to his main target too much, but coach Al Borges showed him that with patience, he does a much better job of scanning the field or taking hits stepping up in the pocket. Negatives... Still, for a player of his size, he shows good mobility. ... When he rolls out of the pocket, he will sometimes hold the ball low and exposed, resulting in costly fumbles. ... Still needs to show better judgement, but has the power behind his throws to thread the ball in a crowd. ... His touch on his long ball has improved quite a bit, but he still needs to work on his underneath throws. ... Still has not fully grasped the mental aspect of calling his own game yet, and will need to have the plays called for him until he can prove that he can handle play-calling on his own. ... Does well in school (3.0 grade point average). His first Wonderlic test score (14) was lower than you like from a player at the quarterback position, but he then scored a much-improved 28 at the Combine in February. ... Needs to work on some fundamentals, especially his feet in his pass set, but he has the quickness to get back from center. ... Made more sound decisions in 2004 than he did in the past, but he still must improve in reading coverages.
Cliffnotes: JC should have never been drafted by us to start with. Especially in the first round expecting him to be NFL starting potential. |

Well, this is only 2nd hand knowledge I have, but from what I had heard it wasn't smoking some weed at a party. These were serious hard drugs that he allegedly used before and after games. But that's just rumor so who know really. He's struck me as much smarter than I had thought. If we still had say Gibbs and Saunders here I'd be tempted to take a chance on him. But under this offense, not so much |

There are no circumstances that would ever make that an accurate statement. If you listen to most scouting reports out there this year it appears that a lot of the QB's in this draft are really 2nd round talent that may get pushed up into the 1st round because of QB needy teams. |

Re: Was Jamie Dukes out of line on Ryan Mallett?
I'd take Mallet over Locker, Gabbert, Newton, or Dalton.
He definitely has the arm, obviously he doesn't have the legs or a pocket presence as to how to handle pressure. He could be the next Dan Marino or he could be the next Ryan Leaf, obviously two different extremes there, but I wouldn't be surprised in I don't know 3 years or so, that we look back at this draft and say why didn't we draft Mallet? |

Re: Was Jamie Dukes out of line on Ryan Mallett?
I read an article where Mallett was compared more to Drew Bledsoe than Dan Marino. He has a hell of an arm and a high release, but Marino, even though stiff, could escape pressure at least better than Bledsoe. With the right line this guy could be awesome.....without it...???????

I always thought if the Shanahan's liked him it would be because he compared well to Schaub (tall immobile passer) but Schaub is more accurate while lacking the cannon of Mallet. So if anything I buy the Bledsoe comparison. Also I agree about him absolutely needing a line. In the NFL there's 3 forms of protection. First is obviously the ability of the 5 offensive lineman to pass protect as well as run block to help keep the defense honest and allow play action to be more effective. After that you have the skilled positions ability to block, so that means Tight Ends, running backs, and occasionally receivers. The third form of protection seems to be more and more vital in todays NFL and thats the ability of a QB to protect himself, either through mobility (Rodgers, Vick, Ben) or a lightning quick release (Manning). Obviously the mobility aspect is more practical and is becoming more and more a part of the game. Personally I want a QB that is able to move around and of all the QB's this year Mallet is easily the worst when it comes to moving around the pocket. Forget gaining yards, this guy is a statue. |

Define most. Because the schools I went to, I saw some of that stuff going on but for the most part, the majority weren't involved in that scene. Booze and pot were all over the place for sure, but that's a different animal. His use is a concern and a red flag, especially if the rumors are true that he was doing a bit more than just "experimenting". |

I am not an expert on drugs so I don't want to get to far into this. weed is known as more of a gateway drug. Lots of people dabble with it in college and most give it up when they enter the real world. In many instances people taking coke are advanced drug users who are heading down the wrong path. |
Re: Was Jamie Dukes out of line on Ryan Mallett?
You can't compare weed to heroin or coke. Don't even try, it's just laughable.
Yeah alcohol is a big problem, not downplaying that, but it's still not in the same league as hard drugs. |
Re: Was Jamie Dukes out of line on Ryan Mallett?
As the parent of a 17 yr. old, even the kids today see a VAST difference between booze/weed and coke, heroin, etc. To most of the kids, people who use anything other than booze/weed are "drug abusers".
