Re: NFL Draft Day 2: Predictions
#41 - Marvin Austin - DT .. (perhaps due to the UNC BS losing half there team to stupid NCAA rules we all forget .. this dude is a straight MONSTER and would be ideal in the 3-4)
#49 - Ryan Mallet - QB .. Slips all the way to us at #49 OR #49 - Ryan Williams - RB .. or #49 - Hankderson - WR .. ( i think he will be gone in first 10 pcks of 2nd round though) |
We drafted a LB in Round 1.
The draft is a way to gain assets. However, successful acquisition of said assets is haphazard and can only be partially controlled. If there's another nice depth pass-rusher they just love, they'll take him. Not only that, but our ILB situation is in a precarious position depth-wish. Anyway, I was just throwing stuff and the wall and seeing if it sticks, because I have no faith in mocks predicting picks outside of the top 5 or so of the draft. |

Re: NFL Draft Day 2: Predictions
Mallett will be there when we pick at #41...and probably #49. But I've never viewed him as a scheme fit for this offense. I would imagine that Stanzi is higher on our board...the only QB who will get real consideration from the Redskins at #49.
Wow, he's worse than I thought.
I'm counting on you, Shanny...don't BLOW this pick on Mallett.
Yeah, because there's all this evidence out there that he was a pot smoking coke head... yup... Come on man, don't you think if he was doing all that crap a picture or something would have showed up by now? I'm not suggesting that Mallett will be the second coming of Peyton Manning, but I'm damn near positive that he will in now way be the next Ryan Leaf. I wasn't a fan of his and I'm not sure I want him as a Redskin, but the more baseless crap that gets spewed about him the more I'd love to see him succeed. Good luck Ryan. |

I understand the fact that he's not going #1 but there are a lot of people that claim he's Ryan Leaf waiting to happen, that that is the type of player that someone will be getting. I don't see it, but I reckon it's possible. My statement wasn't one of draft position as much as it was a comparison of perceived risk. So in that aspect, the Leaf comparison is quite accurate. |
Re: NFL Draft Day 2: Predictions
Paea at #41
Greg Little at #49 (or trade) After last night, I trust the FO to do what's right here on out. |
Re: NFL Draft Day 2: Predictions
Ryan Leaf failed because, according to him, "When playing football became a job, it lost its luster for me."
Essentially, he hated his job, just like the workers in the movie Office Space. |

True, but Leaf was a HUGE bust because he was being hyped as a franchise QB worth of the #1 overall. I could be wrong, but how many times do you hear someone refer a 2nd rounder that didn't work out as a huge bust? Is like comparing Devin Thomas with any of the first round WR busts that the Lions picked under Matt Millen. |
Re: NFL Draft Day 2: Predictions
Paea has played in the Pac-10 against some really good teams, Ellis has played in a smaller conference and we don't know how good he can be. Paea is a beast and I would love to call him the "Angry Samoan" even though he's Tongan.

SFREDSKINS, are his knee issues a concern at all? He could be a poor man's Ngata. |

Wait a minute... I think we are actually on the same page. I don't see him as being a bad pick at all in the second round but I still think you will hear some bust talk just because he was a high profile qb prospect coming into the draft. At this point, I kinda think the risk/reward has evened out or even moved into the reward being greater than risk side. |

I also would refer to him as being the "angry Samoan" lol. All Pacific Islanders are Samoan in my book lol... Wait a minute, I hope that doesn't make me a bad person lol |
Re: NFL Draft Day 2: Predictions
Shanahan will gamble a little in the mid rounds...see Maurice Clarett. I don't think we'll draft Mallet though.

Re: NFL Draft Day 2: Predictions
According to the rumor mill on the Coach and Doc show, the Skins are working hard trying to trade out of the 41 spot to recoup a/some picks in the third or fourth round.
Ellis looks like a Haynesworth 2.0 to me.
We need help in the middle and no one is standing out as an obvious choice. The ILB group also looks weak. If that's the case, OL, OL, OL.
Wouldn't go that far. He seems to have matured since getting kicked off SC's team. Ellis is a true NT and a steal for any team in need of a 3-4 NT; he's visited w/ us so we have some interest. As did Little (WR, UNC), who could've gone earlier had he played in '10. Little or any (WR) becomes a more likely pick at #49 if we take a QB (Kaepernick or Mallet), and Little 6'3 230 has great hands, decent speed (not a burner), tough to tackle, reminds me of a poor man's Boldin; a big possesion WR opposite Armstrong. #41 QB (Kaepernick, Mallet) #49 WR Greg Little or trade down |

We're talking with the Raider supposedly. Not sure of the specifics but we'd get their 3rd rounder and 2012 1st rounder |

Wow, that'd be cool. |
Re: NFL Draft Day 2: Predictions
Oh, and that should be the Raiders, not the Raider. Although I suppose it is just one guy we are talking to
|
Re: NFL Draft Day 2: Predictions
That would be pretty nice, pick up BPA with 49, and then maybe go with someone like Devlin/Stanzi in the third.
|

Wow...a haul like that would help me get over my Locker hangover. Speaking of...has anyone been able to determine if we would have actually taken Locker at #10? |
Re: NFL Draft Day 2: Predictions
Raiders want Kaepernick at 41
It looks like we wont be drafting a QB IMO |
Re: NFL Draft Day 2: Predictions
I hope not. 10 would be overpaying. 8 is just stupid.
|

Now that would be awesome! BTW- Was Locker Shanny's guy if he lasted to #10? Any intel? |
Re: NFL Draft Day 2: Predictions
I think he may have been but I'm not entirely sure really
Increasingly looking like we won't draft a QB in round 2 (which probably mean we'll draft 2, ha!) Heard even more people today, that I hadn't talked to before, mention Vince Young (and Hasselbeck though he's less likely) Paea may not be as likely in round 2 either today. My gut says we trade out of 41 and take Hudson/Wis at 49 |
Re: NFL Draft Day 2: Predictions
Thanks for the intel.
Any word on when the rules for transactions will be released? (trying to trade McNabb) |

Stockpiling first tound picks for next year?
|
Re: NFL Draft Day 2: Predictions
Does anyone realize that for all the talk of Shanahan being in charge and everything else that our draft is shaping up to be more of a Bruce Allen draft? I mean we pass on Gabbert, get Kerrigan in the first. Now with our second round picks we're being linked to Guards, Centers, and Nose Tackles.
Salary cap expert my ass. BA is a trench drafting machine. And no I'm not complaining. If anything it's a nice direction even though in a sense I'm being dragged kicking and screaming away from wanting to draft a QB. Just hope that we don't stay in QB limbo for to long like Tampa did going with guys like Griese, McCown, and Gradowski. However at the very least we're finally drafting in the trenches and personally I love it. |

I would almost jizz in my pants if we got the Raiders 1st round pick in 2012...lol A far cry from the Vinny regime. |
Re: NFL Draft Day 2: Predictions
I have a question for those that would like to see us draft Dalton:
What puts him ahead of Mallett for you? Off-field or on-field issues? Just curious |

Damn right, in order to trade up for Andrew Luck! Let's just hope that we can acquire another 2012 1st Round pick and that a team that drafted a QB in the 1st Round this year is thoughtful enough to finish next season with the worst record in the league. Then, we'll be ready to play Let's Make a Deal. |

Are you planning on slipping ruffies to the Front Office with the first overall pick in 2012? Because unless you're prepared to break the law we won't get the first overall pick. The team that gets that first overall pick is going to hold onto that pick like it's air. |
