Re: Redskins Hatters In The Media

Anyone who uses the Bengals as an example of a franchise that is not subject to media ridicule sees the world through burgandy and gold colored glasses. The Redskins are treated like gods in the Pantheon compared to the scorn heaped on the Bengals for being cheap and for signing thugs/criminals. The team's refusal to consider trading their franchise QB who said he would retire rather than take another snap in Cincy has been a source of criticism there for about 5 months now.

The Redskins QB situation is different from the one's in Carolina and Seattle. The Panthers and the Seahawks face the same kind of challenge that the Skins face - - selecting a QB from a set of choices where every one of the choices has some warts. (Throw in the Dolphins and Browns here too - - and if Kevin Kolb is injured or lays an egg in Arizona, add them to this list.) HOW-EVAH:

In none of those other cities has the QB situation ALSO had this feature:
A 6-time Pro Bowl QB on the roster and the head coach got into a pissing contest last year that the team could not keep under wraps and necessitated the QB competition that is ongoing here.
That did not happen in Carolina or Miami or Cleveland or Cincy or Arizona or Seattle. (Matt Hasselbeck signed a bigger contract in Tennessee than Seattle was offering; that is different from getting traded because the QB and head coach and offensive coordinator could not play well together.)

If you want to continue to believe that the only reason for the Skins getting negative publicity is because the media hates the team for whatever reasons make sense to you, continue to do so. If that is what it takes to make you happy until the Redskins can assemble a team that can win 10 games or more in a season two years in a row, keep it rolling...

3 Super Bowl rings > 6 Pro Bowls.

Not saying the Redskins don't deserve some of the blame. My beef is that the balance for criticism seems to be off. Winning might solve a lot.

I'll also say that a great deal of what I get pissed at probably comes from former players that know frak all about what they're saying.

Clearly another negative article about the Redskins. I read the entire thing and the jist of it is:

Blah blah blah

blah blah blah

blah blah blah

Redskins quarterbacks suck.

blah blah blah

blah blah Orakpo Trent Williams

blah blah blah.

/sarcasm, Dan Graziano is easily one of the more level headed analysts as far as the 'Skins are concerned.

Re: Redskins Hatters In The Media
The thing is, I really feel like there's teams out there with FAR worse quarterback situations than ours.

The Panthers anyone? The Panthers are looking to have to choose between starting Cam Newton, Jimmy Clausen, and friggin' Derek Anderson. Are people looking forward to the Dalton/Gradkowski/Jordan Palmer battle in Cinci? How is T-Jack vs. Whitehurst any better than Grossman vs. Beck? Career underacheiver vs. career back-up?

But you don't hear the same kind of reservations about those situations, and those situations are approached with class and from an analytical perspective. They're not any better off than we are, but still, people come at it from a football analysis.

When we get to the Redskins though? It's a completely different dynamic. Like I said, there's an almost gleeful dismantling of our status as a football team, despite the moves we've made to get better. There are a lot of teams in rebuild mode, but it's the complete inverse of what we typically get.

Right now we're getting raked over the coals for NOT spending, for deciding to go with our own (and Beck and Grossman are our own, for the most part) and spend wisely. Meanwhile, a division rival is doing the exact thing that doomed so many of our seasons and they're being treated like the friggin' champions of the world.

And my point of contention is that, even if this football team was in a much better place, and we were truly a few pieces away from being a contender...we'd be getting MURDERED right now if we signed that many free agents, and put our cap situation in danger when we have to pay so many guys, spending money on big names while one of our homegrown talents that's been a playmaker for us holds out for money that he deserves. We wouldn't hear the end of it.

I understand and know that going into a season where Rex Grossman and John Beck is less than ideal. Way less. But the level of disrespect towards the team just seems to go beyond "what are they thinking" into thinking we're some sort of comedy side show, when in reality we made real strides towards making the football team better.
Hey Bro I love your passion and you are speaking the truth. I'm telling you that most of this Hate is really directed towards Dan Synder. Many people in the NFL and the Media still dislike Synder because all he wanted to do is win a Super Bowl for DC by spending for the best players. Hey at least he is learning now that his way did not get us a Super Bowl so now he hired Bruce and Shanny to get us back to being a Great Organization again. Our fans and some ex-Redskins are our own worst haters cause they have a issue with Synder. So they want to blast the Redskins for any reason. To all the so called Redskins fans it's about the team not the owner. I suggest some of you go to Youtube and watch our great teams (1982-1983,1987, 1991) of the past which can refresh your memory of our great Redskin History. I was growing up during the era when the Redskins were awful and became Super Bowl Champs. We need to come together and support our Coaches and Owner to regain our Greatness. HTTR

More hatters. This is a fantastic article.
The media and fans of our region have recently all become expert talent evaluators. I've heard that the Redskins will be lucky to finish 3-13, I've heard that John Beck doesn’t have the footwork to be a successful NFL quarterback. The footwork? What does any fan know about footwork?

We describe our fan base in DC as being passionate and knowledgeable. We say Marylanders know crabs and football. But this offseason has proven that this region’s football knowledge is microscopic; it can't be seen with the naked eye.

We've cried for years that Dan Snyder's decision to spend high dollars for prime time players was wrong. We look back in disgust at how we unloaded a pile of loot on Deion Sanders, Albert Haynesworth, and Adam Archuleta. We've all screamed for years that this was not the correct way to build a contender. So what did Mr. Snyder do?

He gave the fans exactly what they hollered for: A very competent general manager in Bruce Allen, and a proven champion in Mike Shanahan. Mr. Snyder agreed to not over pay on free agents. And the organization seems to be building the team through the draft, like fans once talked about. But as Coach Shanahan pointed out, talk is cheap. Fans talked the talk, but they weren't prepared for the Redskins to walk.

Well, I think the Jags have improved a bunch this off-season, and the 49ers have a good deal of talent on that team(gore, edwards, crabtree, davis). It all depends on their QB play. If Smith plays halfway decent, they'll be in the hunt for the division. If he plays absolutely crappy, put them down for the Luck sweepstakes. Their defense alone should keep them in games though.

Maybe we'll find some middle ground. Players have confessed, facing the season with low expectations increases their motivation. Flying under the radar can be a good thing.

Re: Redskins Haters In The Media ( I'm sick of the ass clowns)
Im a long time Redskins fan living in Los Angeles Ca area who listen to DC local radio stations via internet and also comcastsports programs. I'm so tired of these ass clowns such as John Riggins or John Feinstein who have so much hate for Dan Synder it sickens me. Riggo is a Redskins legend but now he is in the media with his own tv/radio show he loves to clown the Redskins. No matter what the Redskins do he finds some way to talk trash about the team or the staff. Riggins dislikes Shanny so I'm having a hard time listening to this old bitter Redskins Hatter anymore. He has 2 other clowns with him on the show who kiss his ass to whatever he says. My opinion of the John Riggins show is that they want to be comics with nothing important to say about any sports topic. Now when I watch the WP show with Ivan Carter who is ok , but when this so called Redskins expert John Feinstein shows up bashing everything about the Redskins and its owner is BS. Why do they continue to bring this fool on the show. Yeah I'm going to listen to this idiot who has never played football on any level tell me about my team. Please what a fu.k..g joke this loser is. I'm a realist and I know our owner has made some big mistakes with the team but I think he gets it now by stepping aside to let Shanny and Allen take over the football operation. Well we finally get our wish for Synder to get out the way so let Shanny and Bruce do their thing and stop crying about every move they make. I'm riding with Shanny and Bruce to fix this mess that we have had for about 10 years even if it means Beck is our started this year. I see a plan now lets hope the real Redskins fan do to. Big Shout Out to Dan Synder for getting it right this time.

This is just my opinion and I'm sick of the Haters out there. HTTR

Oh List of Redskins Haters
1.Riggins ( Old)
2.John Feinstein ( Never played Football, Made at Synder's deep pockets)
3.Brian Mitchell ( Bitter about being cut for Deon Sanders)
4.Lavar (Still pissed he got hosed out his money )
5.Jason Reid ( Works for Washington Post)
When ever someone says something bad or quite possibly the truth in a negative way, they are haters, not fans, all that crap. Riggins likes to talk and draw attention to himself, absolutely. However, i think what he is saying is mostly true. He played for this organization when it was a prideful organization, had a way of doing things (Redskin way) hard working veteran guys, family oriented. when snyder bought the team, that feeling was put to the side and it became a very very different atmosphere. He is bitter at the way Snyder has turned this one proud franchise into a laughing stock in the area and in the leauge. Have never listened to Feistein so no opinion on him. B. Mitch is pissed and righfully so. He was a Redskins and a core guy. He played his ass off for this organization and basically was thrown out the door for a hated rival. (which no one liked or likes to this day) Deion was never liked here. LaVar situation is more than you care to admit. There is always two sides to a story, his no different. When you give money up to move out, that says something more about the feeling of the team and the front office instead of a guy being greedy and wanting out. He didn't like the way other Vet guys were being treated in terms of their contracts and said he would give money back, leave and they could have their deals reworked and stay in Washington.

Look, just because someone says something negative about this team doesn't make them haters, or liers, or traitors whatever you want to call them. They are probably more passionate than you think, which is why they spray the venom.

Man hatters are out in strength today -- I just read an article asking which NFC East QB's comments were more laughable: Vince Young saying that the Eagles are a 'dream team' or sexy Rexy's comment about the Skins winning the east. And the consensus was that VY's were more controversial b/c "It's all about proximity to reality. ... It's the possibility that makes the remark controversial.
