I agree we need to build the OL whether through FA or draft, same goes for the secondary. Have you seen the last couple of games? The secondary gives up too many big plays, skins need to draft someone in the 2nd round or find one through FA. Skins CB's suck.

The whole defense is giving up big plays, didn't Fitzpatrick and Fred Jackson gashed us with screen passes on Sunday? I agree the there needs to be upgrade, but I don't want this FO to go on a spending spree for the defense and once again ignore the offense.

vincent jackson, marques colston, mike wallace, steve johnson, dwayne bowe, and reggie wayne are all slated to become free agents as of now. if we could sign one of these guys that would be huge (bowe would be nice).

drew brees will be a free agent as of now if im not mistaken, hes the only legit qb on the market but im guessing he will stay with the saints. that means we will need to draft a qb in the 1st round.

the only worthwhile cb slated for free agency is courtland finegan. that would be an amazing signing but i think he'd want to go to a contender.

on the offensive line im not so sure what is available.

on the defensive line paul solai from miami would be a good get. he will leave.

as far as our own guys, i'd have to think we have a decent chance at losing laron landry as he will be a free agent. if we lose him, we have a huge hole to fill at SS.

Finnegan is a character, given how much ppl b*tch and whine about players like that I think ppl will go nuts about signing a guy like that.
I don't think we have the best secondary and it needs improvement, especially in depth, but it is not anywhere near the top of our problem areas. Any changes in defense this offseason should focus on depth and bringing in young players that could be starters in the near future (such as replacements for Atogwe, Hall).

Shanahan needs to focus on building up the offense first and foremost. We probably would have few complaints about the defense if the offense could put together a decent game.
The draft is not a buffet in which you have control over which players you get to eat. You don't get to decide who is a playmaker at a certain position, you find them and take them, just like you don't get to pick where to dig an oil well or mine for gold. The benefits can be rather large, i.e Adrian Peterson, Area 51, and Kerrakpo.

I think a lot of the resentment Rogers has towards the Redskins, is the way they treated his good friend Jason Campbell. I can agree with Rogers that Campbell was treated like shit by the Redskins FO.

Re: Positions Which Need to Be Addressed

I would figure that the Redskins need to take a QB in the first round. I doubt if the Redskins will be able to draft this Andrew Luck kid, but if they don't, then Landry Jones of Oklahoma and Robert Griffin of Baylor are the next best college QBs. Both of them will probably go in the top 10 of the draft, but the priority should be QB after the failures not only acquiring an aging Donovan McNabb, but allowing Rex Grossman and a journeyman QB named John Beck compete for the starting job in the preseason.

OL is next, and probably could be addressed in free agency. Josh Wilson has been below average in coverage, so I'd be looking for a replacement whether in free agency or the draft. He could improve down the stretch, but I wouldn't count on him doing so.

I think the Redskins should cut Stallworth and promote Moore from the PUP list. I have not seen anything from him, Stallworth is this year's Joey Galloway, they need to cut him.

Re: Positions Which Need to Be Addressed
Our biggest and most important upgrade we need is without a doubt:

1) The Fans - I keep hearing how Redskins fans are some of the most intelligent out of the NFL, but I simply don't see it. (probably same throughout the league) I see a good many who are just as knee jerk reactionary about this team as our lousy owner is. What kills me the most is these same people are probably the same ones bashing Snyder for doing exactly what they are doing. /facepalm

2) QB- The most important position on the field. QB play can make lesser talent look better and make better talent look worse. It hasn't been all of our QBs fault, but it certainly needs to be upgraded big time.

3)OL - We are seeing what happens when injuries occur on the OL front. The line had been playing well for most of the year, but we seriously need some more depth and upgrades in the OL. I do think people are overlooking the injuries.

4) WR- Hard to tell if our receivers are part of the problem or it's QB play. We are in dire need of a big time play maker though. If it's a QB problem, then you can move this down the list.

5) CBs- Time to trade D. Hall in for somebody with less mouth and more action.

This team really has so many needs. I think people's expectations went too high with the early wins and great off-season. This team still lacks a ton of talent from top to bottom. We are however getting there.
The fans? We don't get on the field. The pats only have fans because they started winning. We aren't going to turn the team around. Is that you Larry Michael?

Re: Positions Which Need to Be Addressed

rogers or grimes would be great gets at CB. hall is a #2, wilson isn't that good... so much for that being an "upgrade" like i kept hearing in the offseason :P.

WRs are available... bowe would be best, but stever johnson would probably be the best value. OL I'd have to check, but there's usually someone there when what we've got is so average/bad.

He's a backup for a reason. All he does is runs. They put him in on 3rd or 4th and short so he can run the option. NO.

Matt Flynn is a better backup option. But really You need to build through the draft. Get a Luck if you can trade up enough picks for him, or a Foles , or Kellen Moore.

flynn and josh johnson are no better than beck or grossman. it would be a waste to invest in them. we should only get clear upgrades for the qb position (veteran star or highly touted rookie in the draft).

i dont think that he is a realistic option but hes played for shanny so who knows. if drew brees isnt resigned he'd be someone i think we'd have to look at. same with peyton manning if the colts were looking to trade him (mike greenberg and herm edwards debated that possibility this morning at length). basically, i dont want us to sign some unproven nobody qb/career backup and expect him to compete for the starting qb position. id rather sign/trade for an established veteran, or draft a qb in the first 2 rounds to be our guy

I agree with you 100%. The quarterback position is very crucial and needs to be addressed this coming offseason. Even if Beck ends up having a decent year, the Redskins need an upgrade at this position. Mike Shanahan still hasn't gotten it right when it comes to the QB position for the Redskins.

Traded for McNabb. Wrong decision.

Traded McNabb. Wrong decision.

Allowed Rex Grossman and John Beck to be the front runners for the starting QB job. Huge mistake.

Brought in Kellen Clemens, who in my humble opinion, is better than Grossman or Beck, and then released him. Wrong decision.

Mike Shanahan claims to know QBs. I'm beginning to doubt seriously whether he actually does. If the Redskins don't draft Landry Jones or Robert Griffin III in next year's draft, I'm going to shake my head.

You know the old saying...if you have 2 QB's, you have none, but if you have 25 WR's, you have a team.

Ok, for one thing stop asking for the hogs. The hogs were all big burly nasty guys who made things happened and fit joe gibbs scheme. Shanny runs a ZBS and wants smaller more athletic guys (albeit still nasty). But our starting line wasnt that bad until licht and trent went down. Brown needs to go but i truly belive the rest of our line can be good when healthy but obviously needs depth.

Re: Positions Which Need to Be Addressed

As of today i think our first 5 picks (the rest being nothing more than upside and depth) should goe as follows...

1. Griffin
2. D Jones WR
3. Xavier Nixon OT
4. E Ancho ILB
5. Shaun Prater CB

Sorry if i missed the mock draft thread but this is mine. Remember, a mobile QB like griffin can only help our OL. HAIL!!!

There's a rumor, and I would caution by saying it's just a rumor and one that I think isn't likely to happen, that the Browns may put McCoy on the trading block. Any interest?

I wouldn't mind it. But I'd still want at least one more young potential franchise QB.
