The Pennsylvania State Attorney General says that the state is not pursuing charges against Joe Paterno, however, they announced that he is facing charges of perjury, obstruction of justice, and violation of the state's Child Protective Services Law, in the upcoming lawsuit by the plaintiffs in the sexual abuse case. They are saying that Jail time for JoePa does remain a possibility if he is convicted on all counts..

Good. When Paterno said in his statement that the Board of Trustees should “not spend a single minute discussing my status” I was pretty appalled. I mean that's a slap in the face to the Board. And what right does he have? If I was in his situation I couldn't go to my bosses and say "You know what, don't worry about me. Yeah, when I heard JoePa say that, I thought, "Are you for real? You are going to steer the Board of Trustees into not talking about this?" Maybe he's just going senile but he is on another planet and not a very good one.

it's insane, the only thing i can think is that it is mostly all young kids, alot of them probably under 20. i hope they are just unable to see the situation as a whole and would like to think that no one would ever support someone who enabled such a terrible thing to continue on under his watch. cause at the end of the day paterno knew about two seperate incidents and sandusky was still allowed on campus and with young chilidren, unexcusable.

The writing was on the wall, he should have 'gracefully' stepped aside effective immediately. Since he chose to retire at the end of the season he forced the board's hand and had to be fired, which rallied the students even more.

My thoughts exactly Smoot. The sheer arrogance of this guy baffled me. In some of the video's the show this interview with him talking about how the President and the AD came to him after the 2004 season and asked him to step down. He said in that interview that he was going to retire on his own terms and when he wanted to. Yeah, this asshole thought he was bigger than the institution. I'm glad I haven't read that grand jury report because I know how I'm going to be and I rather not put myself in that mood.

Which only bolsters the arrogance argument - "I don't need to inform the people entrusted with running the school what I am doing, I'll just do it 'cause I know what's best" contrasted with "How dare they not speak to me in person! I deserve better b/c of everything I've done."

With his son, his wife, his family, and his lawyers, to be sure he can't play the ignorant role on how severe this is or are all the people in his circle nitwits as well? Having a pep rally the night prior? Really? Speaking to the media even after he was told not to? To me, that's sheer arrogance and a person who thought he was above it all. If he's smart enough to run a 50 mil a year football program, then surely he's smart enough to know to shut the hell up and let things run it's course while staying out of the limelight.

As far as him being pissy. It was evident he wanted to dictate how his future went. Watch that interview and you can tell he answered to no one.

Yeah I think a lot of people would agree he's been running on fumes and someone this morning, Paul Posluszny maybe?, said after such a long career you figure it may not end well. Like he'd stay a bit too long and leave after some losing years or something like that. But I'm sure no one expected it to end like this

When he says "and say a little prayer for the victims" I mean, I don't want to say it was insincere, but it was just odd how he was already going back to in his house and he turned around and was like "Oh yeah. A lot of my friends went to Penn St. They are in their mid to late 20s and all I see is facebook posts with Joe Pa. motivational quotes and 30 likes. I really don't understand how anyone who has a child or a cousin, etc. could be so blinded by what occurred to those kids.

Nobody gives a shit until it affects them, and then they want somebody to stand up for their cause. It's sad, but sports has become almost too big in America these days. We put a priority emphasis on our favorite teams, and don't really care if these people turn a blind eye if they are protecting their team while doing so. Was out in the parking lot yesterday at lunch scraping off the giant PSU sticker he had on his trucks back window.

The undergrad kids are just being stupid and are swept up in the brain washing, seriously to stand behind Joe P is at this point retarded.

The Cult of Personality has always, always been a powerful force. People identify with the Paterno, see him as an influence on who they are now, probably many happy memories from college are attributed to things he did while they were there. Probably hard to accept that part of your happiness was bought at the expense of these victims.

I am really not making excuses for them - they need to see the reality not the icon. Just trying to figure out how people could still worship him after this.

College kids would show up and riot anything. They could raise the cost on beer in town and they'd react the same way. Most of the idiots showed up to see what was going on.

My sister and brother in law are PSU grads, they are embarrassed by it all.

but my sister use to say when she went there was this:

Student Body: We won the football game today, lets get drunk!

Student Body: We lost the football game today, lets get drunk!

So today she emailed me this:
