So who exactly was he supposed to grab from this magical tree of NFL QBs?
The Redskins could have signed a free agent QB like Matt Hassleback. Given the fact that the Bengals drafted Andy Dalton before the Redskins drafted Jarvis Jenkins, the Redskins still had a chance to draft Ryan Mallet. |
Re: The Skins Are Really A Very Horrible Bad Team
Our team is terrible, we can't deny that.. Fortunately there is a light at the end of the tunnel and it's a reason to keep watching.
Look at what we've seen from Helu. This guy has been absolutely dynamic. He currently has 423 all purpose yards in 9 games (7 games where he was actually used). He's a guy that we can ink into our #1 or #2 running back spot next season. Fred Davis has shown us this year, last year, and even two years ago that he can be a premier tight end. A quarterbacks best friend, a guy who studies tape of Shannon Sharpe, baring his inevitable suspension, we can look forward to some Fred Davis plays for a long time. Hankerson.. What we saw today was a guy who was going pound for pound with Brandon Marshall as our #1 receiver. I hate the small sample size, but since he's been getting opportunities he's ran with it. I still remember watching him go beastmode on Clemson last year when he was closing in on some big time Miami records. Count me in as a believer, and I'd love for you to explain why I shouldn't be. Trent, Brown, and Chester are definitely competent enough to be starters on our o-line. We need a big time center, but we'll have to keep trying till we get that player. Brown was a former top 3 tackle in the league, Chester started for the Ravens all of last season including their playoff games. If he works there, he'll certainly do the job here. We all know what we have in Trent, no need to explain. We're getting a quarterback! It's a no-brainer that we'll have our guy next June when it's draft time. We can judge the front office for going with Beck and Grossman, but it always came down to we didn't have a chance to get the guy last year. Not only will we be getting a quarterback, but Shanahan is the guy who managed to pull that Cutler, Dumervil, Scheffler, Marshall, Hixon, Kuper draft.... Our defense is good enough to win right now, we have a top 15 defense that's playing with a bottom 3 offense. I don't want any stupid movies Snyder, let Mike draft a quarterback before you pull another classic Skins coaching search. |

And Mallett would be on IR due to his lack of mobility, just look at Grossman how slow he is, Mallett is even slower. |
Re: The Skins Are Really A Very Horrible Bad Team
Last two games:
Hankerson - 14 targets, 12 catches, 140 yards. 10.0 YPT. Those are (small sample) number one receiver numbers. That's Mike Wallace territory. |

Re: The Skins Are Really A Very Horrible Bad Team
the weird thing is, the skins are primed for a complete beat down of the boys.
rex will continue where he left off today (oddly he played real well) the D will cont their solid pressure and no big play D but also return one for 6 the surprise play will be a sudden re-surrgence of the run game which will seal the skins win. there is zero reason to think the run game will all of the sudden wake up but it will. if not for "time" sake, it about time man we are gonna woop up on the boys next week, cant wait! |

Boys might be complacent from their blowout this week. We just, just might stun them long enough that we can squeeze out a win. And our run game is good with Helu in. I just hope that Shanahans figure out to NOT give Torain the feature back role next week. |

Could have drafted Ponder, Mallet, or maybe even Dalton. Hasslebeck and Palmer were there. A nice deal for Palmer would not have been so bad, although I wouldn't do it if I was a GM. The going to two QBs was also a dumb move, due to the history of both Beck and Grossman. Clemens could have been the one to surprise us all and we let him go. |

And was Clemens claimed by anyone or playing? There's a reason why he was cut, he sucked, he's as bad or worse than what the Redskins currently have. I seriously believe Shanahan has his eye on a QB coming out this year who he likes better than any from last years draft (at least that's what I want to believe). |

Ponder might have worked out for us, but then we don't have Kerrigan, Hankerson, Hurt, and Gomes. Dalton was picked at #35 and has quite the rapport with AJ Green. I guess he would have been alright, but at #16? Ehhh, most people would think Shanahan had lost it with such a reach. Mallett probably could have been taken at #62, which isn't a big reach. But then again, Mallett has been unable to prove anything one way or the other, unlike Dalton and Ponder. It's not like we got nothing when we passed up on one of the potential quarterbacks. Kerrigan, if he reaches his max potential, is a very valuable piece for a championship team in his own right since we have to handle opposing top tier QBs well. Of course we can't delay QB forever, but the compensation this time, seems pretty good. |

This team looks dead, I have seen them this feeble and dead since Spurrier days and that's saying a lot give that our last coach was Zorn.
This is THE real issue, and there's only one real answer: a vacuum in leadership. This team isn't being coached, motivated, inspired. Period. |

Hassleback has played in a west coast offense before once under Mike Holmgren. He currently has a 90.0 QB rating. Compare how he's playing now to how Rex Grossman and John Beck are playing. Hasselback is also a proven veteran that has guided the Seahawks to the playoffs a few times and went to one Super Bowl. The Redskins could have signed Matt Hasselback. If Mike Shanahan and Bruce Allen signed this guy instead of going along with the comic relief notion that John Beck and Rex Grossman could actually play QB good enough to have a winning record, the Redskins would be at the very least be 5-4 right now. By the way, the Tennessee Titans, the team that Hasselback currently plays for, is 5-4 and very much in the hunt for a AFC wild card birth. |

Looking at the standings right now and remaining schedules I do think we'll end up with the 2nd or 3rd overall pick, which to a degree sucks because two team(s) picking ahead of us i.e. Colts and possibly Dolphins will draft Luck. |

You want a oft injured mid thirty year old QB behind the OL we currently have?...lol Right now, he's behind a solid offensive line and Chris Johnson in the back field. Notice he wasn't doing diddly squat in Seattle. Palmer? Are you kidding me? I'm not even going to really address this because it is so ludicrous. Ponder? Was considered a HUGE reach by the Vikings. Mallet? You serious? Dalton? Picked ahead of us in the 2nd round, and wasn't worthy of a high first round slot based on his evaluation. So again, what QBs from the magical tree should Shanny have plucked from without mortgaging the future (again) and going for a huge reach just because they are a QB? |
Re: The Skins Are Really A Very Horrible Bad Team
Minus the interior lineman, compare and contrast the 9ers vs Skins....one team has only lost one game! I am slowly leaning to the "Shanny is washed up" side.

I have no real qualms with this draft class as constituted. The only thing I would have liked to have seen in either the 2010 or 2011 draft was picking a developmental QB in rounds 4-7. I don't see any of the late picks we made in those rounds truly being an impact player for us so we could have been developing a QB to be no worse than a backup for the future. I wasn't wowed by any of the rookie QB coming out other than Newton. Where we picked, I've got no issue passing on Gabbert, we didn't have a chance at Dalton in the 2nd round, there's no indication Mallett will be anything yet and we were smart in building through this draft and adding picks next year rather than trading picks to move up and around for a QB in the late 1st or 2nd. Neither Beck or Rex will be on the team in 2012, I think we're going to draft a QB in the top 5 next year and add a free agent QB. I kinda wish we had added Matt Lienart in free agency to see if there was anything there but he may just be a lefty Beck. |

Look at the 5 year draft history of the two teams and then re-post. The Niners/Redskins comparison is a poor one. Remember, the Niners were expected to win the NFC West last year but Singletary was such a terrible coach they had no chance. There is a HUGE talent gap between the two teams. |

Matt didn't want to come here. He decided to stay with Houston. Also, either Beck or Grossman will be on the roster next year. No way Shanny is going to have a roster full of QBs that have 0 experience with the system. Grossman or Beck will start until the rook is ready. |

Re: The Skins Are Really A Very Horrible Bad Team
Hasselbeck would be better than Brecks, but at the same time, it's ultimately up to him where he wants to go. Tennessee gave him a 6 million dollar contract(on average). We might have had to sweeten the pot and offer substantially more money in order to sway him to come here. We certainly would have had to match the length of the contract(3 years), and that might not be too desirable for an aging QB.

Only if Rex had gone elsewhere, I suppose. Maybe we sign Hasselbeck and we don't add young linemen in Chester and Bowen? Does that really help us? I mean I think the problem is you're talking about how we'd do this year. Sure we'd be 5-4 maybe. But so what? Is that what we're aiming for. Another .500 record with a QB on his last legs? Titans have Locker (heck even Rusty Smith) on the roster behind Hasselbeck. So in a year or two when Hasselbeck is ready to hang up his cleats they have QBs ready. We don't. So yeah we could have added Hasselbeck for a quick fix, but that doesn't really solve our problem. |
