Re: Matt Barkley Stays (QB Draft Prospect Thread-Episode IV)
thanks for insight SS. Clausen would be a cheap, little risk move. Wouldnt be against it.
If you say "franchise altering" I imagine the type of QB would be an established, franchise QB. Is that right?
Well, "franchise altering" in that he probably wouldn't be a cheap acquisition. |
Re: Matt Barkley Stays (QB Draft Prospect Thread-Episode IV)
That insider said that it (the intel) was based off the fact that if both RGIII and Barkley stayed in school, which appears to be the case. I quoted him directly to the info he got on the Peyton thing. They bring in PM as a FA, and draft somebody like Tannehill.
Clausen? Meh.... I want to say could it be worse than Beck, but then realized it probably could be.
Ha! Someone else is also now suggesting Tannehill? As for RGIII I was certain in October he was staying, then around Thanksgiving I heard otherwise. It just keeps going back and forth with him. I really have no idea anymore if he's staying or not. I don't think anyone could be worse than Beck I think I said the guy I'm talking about is young (not Young, just young) so I don't believe Manning fits that mold |

I'm still trying to figure which idiot franchise would get rid of their franchise QB?? Did Vinny get hired on as GM somewhere? They most likely have tons of faith in their backup or whoever they plan to draft to replace that person. |
Re: Matt Barkley Stays (QB Draft Prospect Thread-Episode IV)
I would give Clausen a try, I've suggested this in the past, also Brady Quinn. They can't be worse than Beck and have shown some flashes, I think with the right coaching they could be better like Alex Smith.

I'm curious what will happen with Quinn. He had a good summer and seems to have maybe restored his reputation a bit. |

Re: Matt Barkley Stays (QB Draft Prospect Thread-Episode IV)
I see. Well I've had heard some rumors pertaining to Peyton Manning but nothing that legitimately suggest the Redskins being all that interested. Not from what I've heard at least.
I'll just go ahead and tell you guys since it seems to be a false rumor anyway. Well not a false rumor but one that's not such a big deal, plus it's the holidays. One of the guys I was talking about was Jimmy Clausen. I dropped the clue right in here http://www.thewarpath.net/869792-post110.html Anyway, it was more of a "Clausen might be available this offseason for cheap, maybe even for nothing. He could be a good choice to bring in" But from doing a bit more gathering, it seems like that would be more of a due diligence "how can you not at least consider the option, especially if it costs us nothing" move But I'll keep the other name quiet a little longer. It would be potentially be a franchise altering move.
Who called that?!? I did.. |

I'll say it again, I would take Sanchez in a heartbeat, with the right coaching he could turn out to be what has been expected all along. |
Re: Matt Barkley Stays (QB Draft Prospect Thread-Episode IV)
Theres no way I want to break the bank for an existing QB with a few years on him.
I'd rather start fresh on the draft. |
Theres no way I want to break the bank for an existing QB with a few years on him.
I'd rather start fresh on the draft.
If you are referencing the Manning rumor, I just want to point out that the insider said if this was on condition of the following: 1) Indy cut Peyton and he become a FA 2) RGIII and Barkley didn't declare Not sure you would be breaking the bank on Manning as a Free Agent really, and give him just enough contract years to groom a QB you choose to draft during that time. I would be fine with this scenario as long as it didn't mean us giving draft picks. Now not sure about the rumor Smoot is talking about in regards to "franchise altering", but he did mention that the QB was young so I would gather he had more than just a "few" years left. |
Re: Matt Barkley Stays (QB Draft Prospect Thread-Episode IV)
I would doubt PM would have any interest in dressing out in the B&G.....
He has 13 Swiss and offshore accounts and his body clock is ticking. Perhaps a team a little closer to a legit SB run...... |

They have all the pieces in place for a contender for years except the QB position. It reminds me of the situation with the Vikings a few years back when they were stacked and being held back by Tavaris Jackson. Insert Brett Farve and they go to the NFC Championship game. |

Re: Matt Barkley Stays (QB Draft Prospect Thread-Episode IV)
I just can't believe the Colts will let Peyton play somewhere else if he's healthy. I don't think that will happen. Nice thought, but can't see it. You might say 28 million is a lot of money, but think about the money Manning generates in revenue, wins.
If St Louis lands in the 1 spot, I'm not sure they would trade Bradford immediately anyway. |
Re: Matt Barkley Stays (QB Draft Prospect Thread-Episode IV)
These quarterback rumors are more depressing then anything. So sad.
|
Re: Matt Barkley Stays (QB Draft Prospect Thread-Episode IV)
from what i am gathering, it seems as if alot of teams plans hinge on rg3's plans now. since barkley did not declare and appears to be staying. there are 2 things i could see happening, as it pertains to the skins.
#1 - we get sam bradford, rams draft rg3 and reload with a bunch of pix from the skins. i do not think we give away our first rounder this year for him, due to some slick negotiating from allen and shanny, but we will definitely give this years second rounder with maybe cooley or davis, plus a first and third next year or something around that for him. Hopefully this is the year that bruce allen really earns his paycheck and makes something like this happen. the rams desperately need playmakers on the ball, and the one area of strength for us is te. it would also give rg3 a reliable necessary option for him at the most important position for a young qb, a reliable te. #2 - skins just go bpa with their first round pick, and go for our quarterback in the second round in foles or tannehill. this could also mean maneuvering with players/picks in order to move up/down to get whoever is higher on shanahans board, which alot of people around here think is tannehill. this route might also be the best way to stockpile picks or add some by moving down the boards, and still getting the guy we originally were targeting. this is where allen/shanny again will earn their paychecks, and our scouting department will show if they have done their homework. either way, i think the fan base in washington will be appeased for the moment. the skins would actually have a valid quarterback, or a young stud ready to start on the road to greatness. the only scenario i hope we do not see is mike shanahan sticking with what he has right now. that would cause the fans in dc to bear arms, and start to riot, if the quarterback question in the district goes unanswered heading into may of 2012. |

It's pretty funny. It's December, we're still in season, and it's all that's talked about. Hey, it's fun to speculate though. The only thing I'm sure about is that none of us knows what's going to happen. |
So I've told a few more of you the big rumor. Congrats to the lucky winners. I'll tell you the rest of you in a new thread

Re: Matt Barkley Stays (QB Draft Prospect Thread-Episode IV)
Said thread will be when Matty decides. Sorry my last post got cut off I guess
|
Re: Matt Barkley Stays (QB Draft Prospect Thread-Episode IV)
Tannehill's stock will rise just like Ponder's did last year, especially with Barkley's decision.
|
Re: Matt Barkley Stays (QB Draft Prospect Thread-Episode IV)
Scott Tolzien would be interesting if the 49ers let him go.

Yeah, that guy has said earlier in the year that the front office was high on RGIII and Tannehill. Not so much in Barkley. I think RGIII's decision will have a big impact on team's plans. I think if RGIII is there, we draft him. 1)RGIII stays. Rams end up with #1, we trade for Bradford. They draft Luck. 2) RGIII stays. Colts end up with #1, we draft a developmental QB in 2nd round and bring in a Peyton Manning(if healthy) if he is cut by the Colts. 3) RGIII declares. We move up in the draft to select him #2. These are the few scenarios I see going down. Hopefully options 1 or 3 don't cost us too much. |
Re: Matt Barkley Stays (QB Draft Prospect Thread-Episode IV)
If we don't get Luck or RGIII, I would trade down and go get Foles.
|
Re: Matt Barkley Stays (QB Draft Prospect Thread-Episode IV)
Didn't the Colts owner just come out and say that if Manning plays in 2012, it will be with the Colts?
I'd say there is .00001% chance Manning will be with the Redskins next year. The whole Sam Bradford thing is interesting... but I just don't see them dumping him after 2 seasons with a terrible supporting cast. Is there any heat around Jake Locker? That's who I wanted the Skins to get this past draft... I like him and think he'd be a good fit for the system... I doubt the Titans have any interest in moving him... but it's a name no one has said yet... lol |
Didn't the Colts owner just come out and say that if Manning plays in 2012, it will be with the Colts?
I'd say there is .00001% chance Manning will be with the Redskins next year.
What the owner says and what the owner does is two different things. I wouldn't put much stock into a owner saying anything really. If he can save 28 million, he's going to do it. I think it all hinges on Manning's health really. If he's healthy, I believe the Colts keep him one more year while drafting Luck (if they have the #1) at the same time. If they cut him, it makes you wonder about the true state of his health. I agree though, I don't see Manning as a Redskin unless RGIII stays, the Rams don't get the #1 spot, the Colts cut Manning and he's completely 100% healthy. This is about the only realistic scenario I see him as a Skin. |
Re: Matt Barkley Stays (QB Draft Prospect Thread-Episode IV)
Young QB's that we havent guessed who could be the big rumor?
I'm still feeling Josh Freeman is the guy, but other legitimate big time starters would include Rivers (good one right?) or Joe Flacco? Otherwise, I'd like to take a shot at Clausen or Mallett and draft a Landry Jones type. Why does everyone prefer Jones to Tannehil? Jones seems way more appealing as a prospect. |

MAN...........I hope your wearing Stiletto's and a....Bustier for this.. |
Re: Matt Barkley Stays (QB Draft Prospect Thread-Episode IV)
Love Bradford's footwork, but man, the guy hasn't been able to stay healthy in college or the pros. So a 2nd this year and 1st and 3rd seems risky to me.
|
Re: Matt Barkley Stays (QB Draft Prospect Thread-Episode IV)
What happened to talking about the actual prospects and their skillsets?
I miss that. These rumors are nothing more then plausibilities that anyone can speculate about. |
Yeah I agree with 30, all these guesses and rumors are getting stupid... Sorry but drew brees? Philip rivers? Haha there is 0.0000000 chance that ever happens. The skins need to go hard after Luck and if not him then RGIII.. Plus I d w some FA QB or a older vet anymore.
