Depending on the circumstances I can see us spending one of our 4ths on Cousins, nothing higher

Listening to Mike Mayock today on the Jim Rome Show, his thinking is Tannehill doesnt make it pass 12. Wow unbelievable.

there's always the "Reach" player in every draft, Ponder was last year IMO and I can see RT being this years..

Re: The Official 2012 NFL Combine Thread

I just think its a crime if we take Tannehill at 6 and leave a Claiborne or Blackmon on the board. The 1# CB and 1# WR in the draft to take a distant number 3, 4 or 5 rated QB. Gotta think value at the skill positions and look at our reasonable needs. WR and CB are needs, even though QB is our greatest need...we gotta be smart.

Re: The Official 2012 NFL Combine Thread

we won't take a QB in the first unless it's RG3 or Luck..

Only way is if we trade back into the 1st. I still say Manning is a redskin next month

I'd rather use one of our mid-to-late rounders on Kellen Moore or Russell Wilson. Cousins is okay but I haven't seen much from him, albeit in the very limited action I've seen of him.
General impression I'm getting from people there as far which QBs came across the most impressive in press conferences/interviews/general character

1. RG3
2. Cousins
3. Luck/Weeden
5. Foles
6. Tannehill
Wow that is really interesting I wonder if it builds RGIII stock.

Think that's why I and a lot of others have been saying as well. Might have been different if Landry Jones and Barkley declared, but they didn't.

Supply and demand. There are at least 6 teams that need QB's and Tannehill is considered the 3rd best QB, therefore someone will make the move before someone else beats them to get him.

yeah remember you saying the samething. I just dont know how I feel about such a gamble. Mayock backed that up with last year's Ponder and Locker picks being reaches but paraphrasing in some way just to emphasize how QB have become such a necessity in a passing league. They're always exceptions, but we may be ripe for a reach considering Shanny's mismanagement of the QB position in a short tenure. In the back of his mind, I wonder whats more important, the right FA QB signing or the right QB draft pick? Whatever the plan is, it needs to be a combo of both, that right combination is especially tricky with Manning coming out and his health issues and the fact Jones and Barkely deciding to stay. Shanny's in a tight spot.

Watch us sign Peyton and somehow also trade for Luck, ha!....

But seriously though I tend to think still that our first pick won't be a QB. Of course, a lot of that is based on my not corroborated by any sources theory that we're going to make a trade offer to the Pats for Hoyer

Lotus 02-24-2012 10:52 PM

Re: The Official 2012 NFL Combine Thread

Barring a trade for Hoyer, I think we will take Tannehill at 6. And I will be happy. Yes, I know that we have other needs and a guy like Claiborne can fill one. And yes, it would be a reach. But you've got to get your guy at QB. We lost our guy last year - let's not make the same mistake.

Andy-Dalton n. The QB that should really be drafted on day two who is drafted by a desperate team in the first round. v. Overreaching for a QB. The Miami Dolphins went Andy-Dalton this year.

see Tannehill.
That doesn't define Andy Dalton at all
Yeah I'm right there with ya. I was thinking more along the lines Andy Dalton = qb discounted because of their division, their non-pro style offensive system, and their supposed lack of a NFL quality arm who proves their doubters wrong from day one.

Plus Dalton was drafted day two in the second round...

see Tannehill.
For such a short post there are plenty of factual errors.
I find it curious that a rookie QB (that would have been rookie of the year in any other year) that started day 1 and lead his to the playoffs is being portrayed as a 'reach'.

'Reach' is such an ambigious and subjective term anyway.

Better one round early then one pick too late.

Meaning at first he was projected 3-4 but on draft day he was picked higher obviously and actually had a damn good season..

If anyone was a "reach" I would say it was definitely Gabbert and possibly Ponder based on play last year. Although I will say Ponder did play alright.

The Rams are going to want a mint for their pick.

02/23/12 - NFL DRAFT SCOUT PRE-COMBINE TOP 64: 61. *Stephen Hill, WR, Georgia Tech, 6-4, 206, 2...Hill should be worth watching at the Combine, where if he surely will wow scouts who are seeking more data on this undergrad who averaged a lot of yards per catch. As a senior at Miller Grove High School, Hill was not only an MVP football player but set the Georgia State prep record with a long jump of 25-feet, 8 and 3/4 inches, which would have placed ninth at the last Olympics. Hill finished his three-year college career with 49 catches for 1,248 yards (16th in school history). That average of 25.47 yards per reception would have broken the school record, but he fell one reception short of qualifying (minimum 50 receptions). His nine career touchdown receptions rank 14th in Tech history. Last year he took his 28 catches for 820 yards, a 29.3-yard average that led the nation. - Frank Cooney - The Sports Xchange, NFL Draft Scout

02/23/12 - 2012 NFL COMBINE, UNDER RADAR UNDERCLASSMEN: WR Stephen Hill, Georgia Tech: Hill reminds me a lot of former Georgia Tech standout Demaryius Thomas for his size, straight-line speed and big play ability. NFLDraftScout.com is currently estimating Hill as being able to run the 40-yard dash in 4.57 seconds. I think he'll shave a tenth off that time, as well as impress in leaping drills. He's undeniably raw but don't be surprised if a strong showing in Indianapolis pushes Hill into the second round. - Rob Rang, NFLDraftScout.com

02/23/12 - Stephen Hill is ready to run fast. The former Georgia Tech wide receiver will fly up to Indianapolis today for the NFL draft combine. “I’m feeling great,” he said. “I’m ready to go.” Nervous? “Not nervous at all,” he said, and he sounded it. “This is something I’ve been dreaming about and something I’ve been ready for.” Since declaring for the draft Jan. 5, Hill has spent most of his time at the IMG training facility in Bradenton, Fla. He worked out with other draft hopefuls such as quarterback Russell Wilson from Wisconsin, quarterback Kirk Cousins and Rutgers wide receiver Mohamed Sanu. The training is principally for the combine, Tech’s pro day (March 6) and individual workouts with teams. He also spent a week in Atlanta getting tutored by former Falcons wide receiver Terance Mathis. Among those training him in Florida was renowned speed coach Loren Seagrave. Hill said he plans to do all of the tests at the combine. “My 40 time has improved a little bit,” Hill said. “It’s going to be interesting.” How interesting? “I want to run a 4.4,” he said. “But I feel like I can run a 4.3.” - Ken Sugiura, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
