I don't know. I got this awesome image of it in my head a video might override it. |
Yeah. We need to adress the d big time thru free agency and the draft Also knock off the dumb crap with rg3 options so he is still walking when we do that. For the most part im very happy with the offense. Maybe getting tanard jackson kerrigan and orakpo back next year will help. As bad as it seems now we are a dumb penalty and a wuss call on fourth and inches from maybe being 3 and 0.
|
In the interest of realistic thinking, we're right where we need to be. I'll admit, I have no idea how a good defense can become so bad without losing many contributors in the off season. I mean, I loved Landry but he didn't help us, neither did Atogwe. And Orakpo and Carriker going down sucks but we weren't good the first two games with them in there this year. So, we're a legitimate 5-11 team but with the makings of an incredible offense and a corner and a safety away from defensive prowess again. We're right on pace for the 2014 Super Bowl. HTTR.

Hahahahaha....good for Kyle. |
Re: Redskins vs. Bengals Post Game Reaction
I think the most shocking thing about this 1-2 start is just how bad the defense has been. Giving up 73, 48, and 59 yard passing touchdowns is a sure fire way to loose a game. The convential wisdom was the the front seven was the strength of the team. We don't seem to get enough pressure on the opposing QB, the only game in which we did was the Saints game, which was still a close thing.
The problem with the defense is that Shanahan and Allen (and Haslett) have signed a crap ton of bad players and due to age and cap, none of the defensive players from the Gibbs/Williams era are here anymore. But the fact that Madieu Williams, DeAngelo Hall, Cedric Griffin, Richard Crawford, and Dejon Gomes are key pieces of the 2012 Redskins is a design flaw, not the result of good strategy/bad results.
We gambled on RG3...we lost a 2nd rounder and signed a 3rd rounder that is making no impact on the oline or secondary....we had very little options as free agents...the NFL hates the skins...they screwed us....we basically have the same team we will have for 2 years...get used to this level of talent.. At least the defense has good LB's and decent run defense...but why run when average QB's can throw 3 TDs and 300 yards every game? Morris can't be much worse than Haslett...he just needs to get the scheme down. However, I am unimpressed with the secondary. And Kyle did a good job of adjusting in the 2nd half, we couldn't do a thing and he went to the running game...unfortunately, he backed away from that and we lost |

Rak and Carriker were lost in the first quarter of the game last week, so I'm not really blaming the defensive performance of the whole game on them too. Idc about Landry though, he's a Jet now. And I'm willing to give a pass to the d for the Saints game based on the fact that they managed to keep the Saints off their game the whole day. |

Re: Redskins vs. Bengals Post Game Reaction
One other thing they need to scale back the design runs for RG3. He is taking way too many hits. He has kept us in every game. Clearly this is yet another rebuilding year. The coaches need to keep the kid healthy.
As far as I am concerned if we avoid a ten loss season then this will be a sucessful season. 7-9 would be a serious step in the right direction. I think the injury bug has savaged the team and anymore O-line or secondary injuries are going to result in this being a LONG season. |

I agree with your number...but unless we can hold teams under 30, winning that many statistically would be a stretch. We're basically in a crapload of trouble....if must score over 30 every game to have a 50/50 chance of winning...that is bad....really bad....just look at the 0-3 saints...not a good place to be Here's an interesting fact... The skins defense has given up 30 points in 7 of our last 8 games. The easiest job in the world is the punter of the team playing the Redskins. |
All the complaints about MS/KS are useless. They are here for at least one more year after this season.

All that said, I said before and I'll say again that I'd rather they had gone all out to get Carr from KC this off-season rather than Morgan, even Winston. I think you mask poor OL play much easier than you can mask poor DB play |
Re: Redskins vs. Bengals Post Game Reaction
I still like what I see out of RG3. The whole offense seems improved and keeps us in any game.
But our defense is just piss poor and we will not win many games this season with them performing the way they have been so far. Honest question here, is Jim Haslett fired at the end of the season if the defense stays this bad every week? We know Mike and Kyle are here for one more year, but how bad would things have to get for both Shanahans to get fired? Less than 3 wins??? |

GOOD
RG3- Mental Toughness and Poise continue to impress... continues to get up after taking some mean ass hits. No more Vick comparisions. He's skies and miles above Vick's durability A. Morris- Ran the ball well for a 3rd straight game; no fumbles, had a nice bruising 12 yd run; should get at least 20 carries per game (only 17 today) Special Teams- NO BLOCKED PUNTS!!, solid punt and kickoff coverage, Banks's 55yd return. BAD Secondary- Our secondary personnel is near unprofessional... Missed tackles, poor coverage, looking lost in coverage, I could go on. FS and SS need to be addressed in FA and/or the draft. Zone Read Option- RG3 will not start a full season if this play is used more than 5-10 per game. The Bangals D began to key in on this play in the 2nd half; and we nearly had 3 fumbles. Jordan Black- Allowing 3 sacks to Michael Johnson is disgraceful, and Black needed to be benched. I thought the interior OL (Monty, Litch, Chester) and for some stretches Polumbus played decent. 2 of those 6 sacks RG3 held onto the ball too long, but for Black to allow 3 sacks and not be benched is a shame. |

I think Maurice Hurt was active; he's played some T before, but if he wasn't then yeah, we would've had to play Black (which we did) the entire game. IMO Black just stood out (in the bad way) this game to make us think about cutting him this wk and let him retire. |
Re: Redskins vs. Bengals Post Game Reaction
Are you guys seriously blaming the Shanahans? We've put up more points the past three games than we did (probably) half the season last year. It's a lack of talent on defense right now. I got caught up thinking we would be elite, but a few injuries here, a few terrible refs there, and suddenly we look like shit.
I don't blame the Shanahans on this one. At least it's exciting to see a ton of scoring. It used to be it was run, run, pass and then giving up third down on defense. At least we eliminated the run, run, pass. :) |

I'm also ready for our defense to get a couple early stops so that Morris can break the hundred yard barrier. The man is good, but we're always playing from behind.

Wonder if they should have gone after Carr in the off-season as compared to Garcon or Morgan? I realize our WRs were shitty, but so are our DBs. In a way, I think they are in a no-win situation. If they go out in FA and address pricey DBs acquisitions , then the WR and OL suffers. If they address pricey OL acquisitions, then the WR and DBs suffer. If they address pricey WR acquisitions, the DBs and OL suffer. You only have but so many resources (picks and cap room), but STILL with a ton of holes left on this team. Injuries are simply killing this team right now though. That and stupidity. (aka..smoking weed and failing drug tests) |
Re: Redskins vs. Bengals Post Game Reaction
I hope they bring up Compton. If there are going to be any tackle struggles on the oline, I'd at least like it to be a rookie gaining some experience.

I still think the defense in general is not playing well. Pass rushing is iffy, LBs are getting abused by TEs, and the DBs are giving up way too much yardage in the pass three games. In the end this falls on the coaches, esp the def coordinator. |
Re: Redskins vs. Bengals Post Game Reaction
Just in case anyone is wondering Alfred Morris is on pace for 1,400 yards this year. Obviously theres ups and downs and players get tired as the season goes on especially rookies who are use to shorter college season but it's still worth noting.

Re: Redskins vs. Bengals Post Game Reaction
You know what cracks me up the most about our team.
The fact that we can never be good at both offense AND defense. Its like its a requirement to be good at one and bad at the other. |

When we blitz, it's like we pick the worst possible formation to do it in. I understand you can't always predict what the other team is going to do, but sometimes they should have a defensive audible. I like the aggressiveness, but when it's 2nd and 20, I don't care if it's 3rd and 30, just make them punt! |

I think this type of defense is very dependent upon getting pressure up front. If you don't get pressure up front, you are going to be F'd. If you look back at the Patriots when they were winning Super Bowls, you noticed their defense was incredible at the point of attack and LBs. It's a main reason why BB hasn't paid huge money to DBs, and a big reason why he let Asante Samuel walk. Vrabel, Seymour, Bruschi, McGinest, Coolvin, Johnson have all been beasts. The only DB to note on those squads is Ty Law, and Harrison was at the end of his career. I've always thought AS was overrated even back in NE. He jumped routes all the time and capitalized. Right now, we simply aren't getting the pressure we need to up front and it shows. |

If anyone needs to go, it's Morris. Our secondary is the only problem on defense. |
We have no pass rush because we play 10yards off the receivers. There is nothing to disrupt the timing. A 0.5sec jam would make a huge difference with pressure.
The big catches are a result of a free release. |
