Re: 2013 Free Agents
Safety/Secondary to me. OLine, as bad as it is seems to be hanging on.
It's more than hanging on, it's been doing a really good job this year. The run blocking has been outstanding and enabled better pass blocking (though we haven't seen much with Garcon's injury). A lot of offensive line success has to do with chemistry between players which is developed through consistency in personnel and system; now that these lineman have mostly together for the better part of three seasons, they're starting to develop as a strong corps. While it's always a smart idea to draft and sign for oline depth, for now the Skins should be pretty comfortable with what they have and instead focus their big offseason acquisitions on defense. |
Re: 2013 Free Agents
Outside of Polumbus in pass pro the OL has been pretty damn solid this year.
|
Re: 2013 Free Agents
So about those free agents...
So I read the other day that DaShon Goldson of the 49ers was a free agent before, didn't do anything great the season before, he visited the pats, then harbaugh came in and they got Aldon Smith and Carlos, then that defense improved and Goldson was an all pro and got franchised. I think that he's a good player, but probably a system player. |

Which is why I don't see us getting Clady. |
Re: 2013 Free Agents
We need a new RT and that should be on the list right after a safety or two. Give our CB's decent deep help and it would improve their play.

and in the run game, it is actually amazing how good they have been considering Polumbus is starting. Amazing. |
Re: 2013 Free Agents
I was thinking leaning more towards:
Draft Strategy: 2nd Rd. - Best CB/S available 3rd Rd - Best CB/S available 4th Rd - RT 5th Rd - Best CB/S available 6th Rd. - Best CB/S available 7th Rd. - Best CB/S available
Haha yeah, I would be agreeable to throwing RT in the middle of that somewhere. 4th round works. |

He's better in the run game, or at least his weaknesses are more easily disguised there. |

Yes - I meant amazing in both run and pass game - quietly this O-line is having a year so much above and beyond anything I could have imagined. My big fear when the year started was that RG-3 was going to be damaged goods before we could ever put the team (including defense) around him to win a championship. Thank God they are keeping him safe (obviously his run in the Atlanta game was all on him). |

They are definately game planning to keep him safe, but wow that kid does a pretty good job himself. The speed at which the whole offense is run around him is incredible and the HOLES the oline is opening up in the running game are pretty incredible too. I do agree with you as a unit though Matty- the oline is above and beyond what I though they would be and I have to say most of that starts with Monty and Big TW. TW is having an amazing year. |

Not bad at all folks. Once we have Polumbus replaced we could have a top 10 Oline. Ill take that all day |
Re: 2013 Free Agents
yeah, we need a new RT bad, but not as bad as competent DBs... healthy receivers wouldn't hurt either (no davis, no robinson, no garcon... i mean, come on).

Everyone knew he had reports of substance abuse before and that he had problems with rules before this report came out. Playmaking slot corner that just finds his way around the ball. Still worth at least a 5th round pick. All matters if we give him the right leadership and the right situation. |

6-7 posts about what brennan said lol. Our fa tafgets should be clady and talib . And a safety.
Yep. Why do you think people do drugs and can't get off of them? Because they have bad supporting friends and Family (family, again, no father; and he's literally following in his footsteps like I said, because this recent charge of being caught with weed is probably going to give him some jail time now) This guy is the Vontaze Burfict of the draft. But even Burfict didn't have drug problems. Btw, our secondary is all free agents (except reed whos a backup at best; keep in mind Merriweather would be starting in place of him) and our secondary rates as the 2nd worst in the NFL. We MUST draft these guys next year whether or not we do get a FA there. |

There are lots of drug addicts that come out of completely normal and loving homes with lots of good people around them. Supposedly they found ten bags of weed. Not sure if thats small little drug size bags or ziploc bags; are they filled bags (pounds) or what? We'll hear more in the upcoming days, but if he's caught with more than a pound of weed, I'm pretty sure thats jail time in some states, not sure if Lousiana is one. |

Did you read the article? He, Hatcher and Jefferson were charged with simple possession. It's Bryant who's facing the intent to sell charges.
Mathieu and former LSU quarterback Jordan Jefferson were charged with simple possession of marijuana, the Baton Rouge police department said in a release. Former Tigers linebacker Karnell Hatcher also was charged with simple possession while former defensive back Derrick Bryant faces the most serious charge of possession with intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to police spokesman Don Kelly.
|
Re: 2013 Free Agents
Good thing we didn't waste 50 mil on Brandon Carr. Just read an article that profootballfocus has him ranked 81 out of 98 eligible cornerbacks (The amount of plays you are in determine your eligibility) Has been completely manhandled these past couple of weeks, against Marshall he got destroyed and Boldin had 98 yards on the man. That is why you wanna stay away from the big free agent corners, especially those that arent as good as their ex teammate.

We were targeting Courtland Finnegan. Most likely would be here if capgate didn't happen. |

Carr wasnt good last year either. Overrated imo |

I know but I read last year on this board a lot of people wanting Carr, which is why I am happy we didn't spend a lot of money on him. Honestly wouldn't spend that much money on Finnegan either. Not many big free agents pan out. Why you gotta use the draft. |

Kind of happy about that. Would have given me another DB that I couldn't stand on the Skins (I'm looking at you Deion). I'm a Skins fan first, but damn if I would cheer for Deion or Finnegan if he was here. |
Re: 2013 Free Agents
I wanted Carr. But I'm not Bruce Allen...only his wife's cousin
And how about everyone that wanted Demetrus Bell |
Re: 2013 Free Agents
Speaking of him, I wonder if Brown will actually play a snap for us this year. Most of our pass protection breakdowns have come from RT even though Polumbus has been pretty good in run blocking.

Total guess but I could see him released after the bye once he's " healthy" |

Well yeah it's all front loaded I suppose. Still it's a few million (3?) dollars. |
