Re: Redskins Offensive Line: 2012 Unsung Heroes
The Redskins offensive line is not a great line. They work well but the offensive line is flawed. The left side with Trent Williams and Kory Lichtensteiger is the best of the unit. Montgomery is okay, but the Redskins can definitely do better at center. RG is fine. While some Redskins fans gets down on Polumbus, he has actually done a decent job.

To all - Please accept my apologies. I should have left the personal flame at Goat out of the general thread.
What are you talking about? He passes outside the pocket regularly, but sitting back in the pocket he gets crushed with a couple seconds of the snap. I think just about every game announcer has said as much.
BHA said RG3 was hit on nearly every all of this attempts against Dallas, except once or twice. Sorry I just don't believe the number was that high. So until you guys can provide some facts to back this up, I'm calling BS. That's what I'm talking about. |
Re: Redskins Offensive Line: 2012 Unsung Heroes
Just watching the game highlights on NFL.com I counted 5 passes where RG3 wasn't hit, and on 3 of his 4 TDs he wasn't touched.

I took it to mean every drop back in the pocket, since that's been the topic of discussion. Moving on... |

RGIII took some vicious hits on a couple critical drop backs - but so does every QB not named Manning, Brady or Brees. At the same time, as Matty points out, on most of the critical throws he was kept clean. Sometimes it is like folks just see what they want- facts be damned. |

You've misremembered my statement. this is what I actually posted:
For the past two games, during the newscast theyve shown stats of RGIII hurried/hits/knockdown/sacked on pass attempts. In both games, there were only 1 or 2 dropbacks where one of those did not occurr. the vast majority where in the Hits and Knockdown columns.
I spoke to graphics displayed on the newscasts, not my own observations. I also said the stats included hurries. |
Re: Redskins Offensive Line: 2012 Unsung Heroes
At this point, I am not sure what your point is BHA. I am not saying that sarcastically, I am really unclear as to what you are asserting and why.
Is anyone, at this point, arguing that our line is faultless? or that it can't stand improvement? I think everyone pretty much agrees that, after our DB's, O-line is the next priority. |
Re: Redskins Offensive Line: 2012 Unsung Heroes
Gird your loins BHA! You are teetering dangerously close to the dark side. It's a short trip to..........Goatville.

hilarious :food-smil I think everyone can agree we need better play from the Right Tackle position and probably will have a new starter there next year which will help. Kory L has been up and down all year, and we have young talent there who could push for playing time at that spot as well. Things are looking up along the Oline. But certainly the Oline has fared much better than anticipated lead by the pro bowl-like play of Trent and Monty. |
Re: Redskins Offensive Line: 2012 Unsung Heroes
Screw you guys, my town is real America :)
I agree the line is better than expected at run blocking. About what I expected for pass blocking, which is not so good. |
Re: Redskins Offensive Line: 2012 Unsung Heroes
as for no one available - vollmer from NE is good and will be a FA that might not get re-signed due to other contracts there.
he's not a LT, he's not going to get LT money, so he should at least get a look. we don't need to go crazy due to other concerns (coverage units), but it might work out well. the only other need on O is a TE (which is more important than RT for us and cheaper to man). everything else is straight D. |

Paul finally flashed something and we've got Lunch Pail Logan to start with Cooley sparing his some reps. Davis will work his way back next season, and I don't think we have to worry about competing for his services much. |

As much crap that D.Hall gets from the media and fans, he is statistically having a pro-bowl caliber year. Just saying

Re: Redskins Offensive Line: 2012 Unsung Heroes
Let me say it again - right tackle needs to be the redskins priority in the offseason.
|
Re: Redskins Offensive Line: 2012 Unsung Heroes
I think I'd just release him. He was hurt the year before we got him and it's been one thing after the other ever since.

Hopefully that's what they'll do and maybe we can afford to get a guy like Volmer. I've just had it with Brown. I seriously doubt he'll ever be the player he once was anyway. |
Re: Redskins Offensive Line: 2012 Unsung Heroes
I don't remember the specifics but I think if he were to be released before June 1, 2013 it's a $3M hit against the cap, but just $1M after June 1

If Hall restructures in a way helpful to the franchise do we still need to prioritize corner? Not saying he necessarily will, but what if? How many starting safeties we need to "find" is a tough call. You'd like to think at least one of Merriwether/Jackson will be starting. Hell, given Merriwether's proneness to injury and Jackson's proneness for mischief maybe you need them both here plus one more legit starter. |

At 12:01am June 2, 2013 I'd send his a** packing. Now I understand why the IR. You don't think they're planning on keeping him do you SS? Weren't they expecting him to play right after the bye? |

I thought that if he was healthy enough they'd activated him and release him, or maybe do some sort of injury settlement. I feel bad for the guy |

I feel bad for the guy
Why do you feel bad for him? I just felt like we made a bad deal. He was hurt in 2009..signs a nice deal with us in the year after he's hurt...then seems like he's about ready to go then bam..some more reasons he can't play. Just seems like he got paid and we didn't get much production for it. |

I hope Brown's health in his hip improves. But he needs to be released. He's shown during the course of his Redskins tenure that he can't stay healthy and this is the 3rd straight year that he has ended up on IR. Not his fault and injuries occur in the NFL. But it's as if the Redskins gave the NO Saints that 3rd round pick for free. No matter what, you never trade for an injured player. |

He's not some bum who just wants to sit back and collect a pay check. He'd rather be healthy and playing. The constant set backs have to be frustrating. |
Re: Redskins Offensive Line: 2012 Unsung Heroes
We absolutely need a RT this offseason. If we get one this Offense will have no weakness. I also believe we should try and get a dominant guard too. Protect RG3 for more than 3 seconds and we could score 40 pts a game.
I don't get the hatred for Brown, but whatever
Seems that whenever a player has injury issues the assumption is he's lazy or just wants to collect his $$ without earning it. And of course the fans bring the hate for that. |
Re: Redskins Offensive Line: 2012 Unsung Heroes
Its not that I hate JaBles but I hate the decision to stick with a guy, giving him tons of scrilla, and not having a viable option 2. This wasnt a never a new injury, Shanny and FO needed to have a better plan.
Maybe Compton can be in their future plans at Right Tackle, im hoping so. I dont think we need to do something drastic like over paying in FA. My wish is let Compton compete with a 2013 mid round draft pick and maybe another Vet. We shouldnt be satisfied with Polumbus, we can get better play out of the RT position. |

I would say 5th priority - behind 2 safeties and 2 cornerbacks :) Of course, its unlikely we'd see an entirely new secondary. it could be 2 of our 4 starting DBs are doing everything theyre supposed to, but the other 2 keep blowing assignments. Its hard to judge since we dont know what the assignments are. Given Shanahan doesnt have the best track record drafting defensive talent, i'd feel alot better if we resolved most of our secondary concerns in free agency. Not sure what the market is going to be next year or our exact cap room, but good cornerbacks are expensive. |

Did mention a couple of weeks back that they gave Compton a nice raise after a few teams sought him out. I suspect he'll get a December call up and will be in the plans for 2013. Think Maurice Hurt might be in the mix too. |
