I thought he was basically in charge of all football operations until 2 or 3 seasons ago. There was Heckert but I always thought and heard that the person with the final say was Reid, basically making him in charge of everything.
That could be right, if so then yes he could be GM and HC. Arizona isn't as bad off as they looked, the offense is bad but in a couple seasons Reid could turn that around.

Cleveland is not a mess they have many really good young players, a few more pieces and they are ready to contend. The Jets are a mess.

skinsfaninok 01-01-2013 10:54 PM

Browns are better off than Buffalo and SD IMO.

I will agree with that. I said that statement thinking of the Cleveland organization as a whole throughout the years instead of just looking at the team and its potential. Good young defense, good young oline. Weeden to me does not seem comfortable playing in the NFL though, they seem to missing a QB and an offensive playmaker. I take back the earlier statement.
Reid in Arizona, does that mean he'll be the GM there too?
One would assume he'd take that role on as well.

Also, what's the deal with the Chiefs?

Clark Hunt, Kansas City Chiefs CEO, taking on bigger role - ESPN

According to this, Hunt is stepping into the front to be a liaison between the head coach and GM (Pioli). The coach will be reporting directly to him and not to the GM.
"The GM and coach won't always have the same perspective," Hunt said. "But they found a way to get to common ground and make decisions, and that will really be my role, finding the right path for the Chiefs and helping the guys make decisions together."
I get a sense that there is a lot of friction between Pioli and the coaches (Crennel/Haley), and that it's come to the point that he's going to be the in between guy now to eliminate the issues. Used the prior relationship between Marty and Peterson to highlight this.

Am I reading more into this than what's there?

Re: Black Monday: NFL Coaches and Executives Carousel

The thing that sucks for the Jets, Browns, Cardinals, and Bills is that they need QBs, and theres not many QBs in this draft (no RG3's or Andrew Lucks; Maybe someone that can play close to Russell Wilson, but even thats stretching it), so they all have that same non appeal to many potential head coaches looking to go to those places. So I expect all those teams to still be bottom dwellers in the league. Now if one of those teams gets a healthy Mike Vick or possibly Alex Smith, maybe they can be middle of the pack teams.

Saban is believed to only be interested in a warm weather locale

Kelly has said there is one person he has on mind who would be his GM. No idea who that is though, and it would seem that person would just be a lackey

I think Hunt is trying to force Pioli to resign. Maybe it's a money thing why he won't fire him?

I heard from some pretty reliable people that after Sunday's game Hubt asked Manning why he didn't consider the Chiefs. And Manning supposedly told him he wanted no part of an organization where Pioli was in charge. I don't know why he said that, but that's pretty damning. Manning's rejection is allegedly a big reason the Titans let Mike Reinfeldt go as well

but seriously, why wouldn't the line judge have a wristwatch that's only function is to be synced with the play clock, at 0 it flashes red, that way he's not looking away from the ball.

There are solutions to some issues.
Or something like a pager that vibrates or beeps, so the ref doesn't have to look down. Also, I don't know how something like that doesn't get reviewed. I mean, they review a shot if they believe the shot clock has expired.

Not sure if I had posted this earlier last year, but hearing about this theatrics in this article, I can see why Manning said what he said.

Thats interesting. I wonder if thats spite from Manning for Pioli building good NE teams that beat manning a lot.

Speaking of Manning Smoot, I know it was a long time ago (maybe you answered this alread) but how serious was Manning into joining us? I remember hearing from Peter King (or someone in SI) that Manning was out to dinner with Elway and Elway said that the Skins had just traded up to get RG3 and Manning was in complete shock; a reaction almost as if he had really wanted to come here.

To your first point, I think it's more than that. But may have played a part

To your second, I don't know how serious he was. I know he was interested. He has a very close relationship with one of our owners, and Kyle really pushed hard for him.

I know Yardbarker is pretty much a rumor site, that I never read because the only time I see its' headlines are at work, but could you expand upon that rumor SS? At first glance I would assume it's saying Mike won't let Kyle interview, either for a coordinator job or for a HC job. You heard anything about that?

The Jets, like most teams, need to make better personnel decisions. Step one was firing Tannenbaum. They have a pretty good defense and an okay running game. After QB, they need some playmakers on offense (besides Holmes).

Re: Black Monday: NFL Coaches and Executives Carousel

Reid and Heckert in KC? Could be solid. They still have the whole "and who will we get to throw the ball" issue.

I got no hate for Reid and I think Philly is going to miss him. At the same time, he has some serious flaws as a HC which, I believe, ultimately prevented and will prevent him from ever winning a championship. Specifically, his time management issues, his short yardage issues and his complete and utter disrespect for the running game.

If the rumours are true, KC may have just hired Marty Schottenheimer redux (great records, no championshipse).

donofriose 01-03-2013 10:56 AM

Re: Black Monday: NFL Coaches and Executives Carousel

Reid is a solid coach. Just lost touch the last couple of years and needed to go, fresh start would be good for him. Still needs to hire a solid DC. It will be interesting to see how he uses Jamaal Charles who obviously is a dynamic back who just rushed for 1500+ yards and would fill a similar role to Westbrook and McCoy.

I would actually feel sorry for Lovie if he got that job. That and the Cleveland jobs are just roads to nowhere. Can't win there, free agents (typically) have no interest in going there unless they are overpaid to do so, bad weather, bad stadiums, bad roster compositions, ugh.
