Re: Draft talk rounds 2-3
they are saying it was a reach...why not swearinger?
Only McShay said that and he hates everything we do apparently. I like the pick. |
Re: Draft talk rounds 2-3
Solid pick...Halls replacement.
|
Re: Draft talk rounds 2-3
Maybe they figured Thomas or Rambo will be around in the 3rd/4th.
|
I like his size and speed. Don't know much of anything on him, listening to NFL network sounds like he is a bigger Hall, eager for picks, not a straight coverage guy.
|
Re: Draft talk rounds 2-3
This guy sounds like Hall. Gets burned but also grabs a lot of Ints.
|
Re: Draft talk rounds 2-3
The question is, would you package our 3rd and a 5th to move back up right now and get Swearenger.
|
As a State fan, the Front Office must have seen more in Amerson than I did.
I'm with you. He's never impressed me. Still, he has all the makings of a stud FS. If haslett didn't think he could be coached up, we wouldn't have picked him. |
Re: Draft talk rounds 2-3
Well I never heard of him but certainly not a "reach" like pick according to the draft sites. Playmaker at corner with size and speed. I can definitely live with that, even if it is a corner.
|
Re: Draft talk rounds 2-3
No....dont give up picks....
|
Re: Draft talk rounds 2-3
I miss last years draft...
|
Re: Draft talk rounds 2-3
Hopefully he's a guy that will develop
|
Re: Draft talk rounds 2-3
Think he will be a CB or safety?
|
Re: Draft talk rounds 2-3
i'm just a bit surprised its not swearinger or jamar taylor or whatever. Hopefully our FO proves itself again after he has a strong season.
|
Re: Draft talk rounds 2-3
In regards to Amerson...
Some teams will project him to safety unless he proves hip flexibility, agility, and speed in workouts. So... possible safety? |

My thoughts exactly |
Re: Draft talk rounds 2-3
Amerson:
Strengths Possesses size, physicality and athleticism to be a starting NFL defensive back. Very confident, attacks aggressively down hill, both in jumping routes, and in defending the run. Receiver-like ball skills allow him to high-point passes on jump balls and make quarterbacks pay for trying to fit a ball between levels of zone coverage. Also adjusts well to low and wide throws despite his size. Flashes agility. Will pop receivers to dislodge the ball and running backs coming to his side of the field. Wrap-up tackler, closes quickly to the ball when attacking receivers in off-coverage and against east-west runs. Works through receiver blocks in the run game with strong hands and quickness. Weaknesses Some teams will project him to safety unless he proves hip flexibility, agility, and speed in workouts. Backpedal will be tested by quicker receivers eating up his cushion at the next level. Takes time to transition forward from pedal, comes out of his breaks a bit slow. Can be deceived by double moves. Doesn't display run assignment integrity. Plays a lot of off-coverage and zone, needs experience in the man and press coverages in which he should excel given his physical ability.
I dont see this guy as a game 1 starter...that is what we needed this year with our top pick....a bit bummed frankly |
Re: Draft talk rounds 2-3
and he can be a reserve this year if he need experience... though it'd be better if he could start.
and yeah, i wouldn't be mad if we moved up to get a guy like swearinger either. if we pile up enough bodies, our pass D should eventually improve... |

No. |
Re: Draft talk rounds 2-3
Usually when people question the skins pick recently that player ends up being pretty good. Could have been worst.

True. Just like Alf Mo. Who would've thought that would pan out. |
Re: Draft talk rounds 2-3
Each year, I watch the draft. Each year, I promise myself that I'll follow college football a little more so I can know more of the guys getting selected. Needless to say, I failed myself last year.

He is the exception, not the rule and I dont remember anyone crying reach on him |
Re: Draft talk rounds 2-3
would have rather had Taylor...but oh well...they want a gambler I guess
|
Re: Draft talk rounds 2-3
Amerson is also tall. like 6'2'.

Fans may have questioned who Morris was but, no one questioned the pick . We "know" who Amerson is and he seemingly was a reach. I say it was a desperation pick but, I can see Shanahan justifying this pick by saying Am person was the top rated SAFETY on their board. |

Re: Draft talk rounds 2-3
Somebody post the top CBs available at the Skins pick. I'm stressed. Maybe not Jets fans stressed but, stressed nonetheless.
Hell. Show me the teams big board! |
Re: Draft talk rounds 2-3
Still a lot of good safeties though.
|
Re: Draft talk rounds 2-3
they saw he was 6'2" 206 lbs and runs a 4.44. those are great stats for a big CB. he also had a billion picks in 2011.
in 2012 he got exposed a bit looking for big plays and biting on double moves etc. it does sound sorta like hall, but we'll see. |
Re: Draft talk rounds 2-3
Feel good we went CB first. Wonder if Amerson projects any as a slot cover guy?
|
Re: Draft talk rounds 2-3
Swearinger was a good looking safety, but he was also a penalty guy and played a little too outta control. Oh well, can't have them all. And Houston knows how to draft. Simply put, if the Redskins really like Swearinger, they would have taken him instead of Amerson. Clearly they didn't like him more than Amerson and theres something we're missing on Amerson and on Swearinger.
