Not everyone agrees with you. Giants Aaron Curry is ready to show he's an elite linebacker | NJ.com Ken Norton Jr. and new Giants linebacker Aaron Curry exchange text messages to this day. It was Norton, Curry says, who taught him the life lessons that set him on a path to reclaim his once "can’t-miss" career. Norton, a former standout linebacker with the Cowboys and 49ers, came to the Seahawks as a position coach in Curry’s second season. By then, Curry said he was self-absorbed in his fame and fortune as the fourth pick overall in 2009, having signed a six-year, $60 million contract with $34 million guaranteed. Immediately inserted as the starting strongside linebacker, Curry admitted he would pout if he didn’t like a defensive call. His checkbook took precedence over his playbook, he remembered, and his needs and wants superseded those of the Seahawks. "Coach Norton was just honest with me," Curry said. "He would never let me slide on anything. He was harsh but I knew it was because he cared. He tried to get me to the point where I understood there was a certain way to be an NFL linebacker. It took some time." Norton is old-school. He adheres to the lofty linebacker standards set by the likes of Lawrence Taylor, Carl Banks, Mike Singletary and Junior Seau. He pushed Curry to the limit. |

I just remember Aaron Curry as that "sure thing" "can't miss" prospect when he came out. Now he's on his 3rd team in 2 years.

Re: NFL News Offseason Style
So the draft is pushed back two weeks in order to stretch out the offseason. While I think it isn't a "bad" move in that it harms the game in any significant way. With rookie slotting, it really has sped up the signing process such that I don't see the two fewer weeks of negotiations causing any hold outs. Rookies can still participate in OTA's and other team events while unsigned so, again, I am not seeing any significant developmental time lost.
At the same time, I just don't see any reason for it - the draft process is already interminable. Pretty soon, instead of three days, they are going to stretch it over an entire week with one round a day - all in prime time (and the 7th round will still have better ratings than the PGA). More concerned that they screw around with the playoffs. If it is expanded, we will start getting teams with losing records going to the play-offs. It is an imperfect system now, but it really creates interesting games through the year b/c each game has value. We go 6-1 over the stretch last year and the Giants win the Division and we stay home (I think that's how it would have worked). Of course, since expanded play-offs mean expanded profit (and probably more money to players), I imagine it is only a matter of time. Soon the Super Bowl will be in March as teams play 16 games to eliminate four teams and then a three month single elimination tournament to get rid of 26 more. <sigh> |

He was drafted mid 2nd round, and has had solid production. I could name a couple mid 2nd round receivers who were busts, but really prefer not too. He had a bit of injury history I believe, and has performed well. He may level out at below star level after his back injury- Ross Tucker said he was never the same after his. If it does then he ends up having a good, not great career in the NFL. He was never going to be HoF material, so you take the years you get out of him and be happy with it. |
