Poor Brady. He doesn't have his elite receiving squad anymore. In hindsight, I'm sure the Pats are kicking themselves for letting Welker go. Someone on this board(CRedskinsRule?)asked if this was the year NE faltered. It's starting to look that way. No good receivers are a lock to play this season except for Amendola, and Danny Woodhead's gone. If their defense isn't better than last season, I can't see them finishing above 9-7. |
Re: Around the NFL 2013 Offseason (Version 5150)
Brady has won Super Bowls with rather crappy receivers before. This does not mean that he will again - but it also means we should be cautious in declaring the demise of the Pats for receiver reasons alone.

No, please don't do that! Then the Patriot's bandwagon fans would have to find another team, and some of them just might chose the Redskins. I know the Patriots have some loyal fans, but for some reason, it seems like they have more bandwagon fans than any other team. Maybe it's just me. |

Agreed. For years Brady threw to a bunch of joe schmoes and had success. I won't believe they are heading downhill until it happens. |
Re: Around the NFL 2013 Offseason (Version 5150)
Pats have had 12 straight winning seasons, can't really bet against that

True, true. But Brady's getting older; Welker, who's been a big part of their success, is gone; Woodhead's gone; Ridley hasn't proven he can be a reliable runner; and the defense has never been among the best. I don't know, perhaps not this year, but every dog has his day, and I think the Patriot's day is coming to a close. |

Eventually the pats will fall but that division is still pretty bad, miami, buff and ny are all bad teams.

He was younger and had a far better defense than what they have now. Brady was 27 years old when his best receiver was Reche Caldwell. While I don't think it is all gloom and doom for N.E., I don't think they will be the juggernaut they once were. But I am sure they'll find a way to win. I do find it puzzling that with all of the resources they've had (especially their draft picks), they've not given Brady any weapons (other than Gronk). |

The Dolphins are better than you think. If they find a running game they can win 9-10 games. |

Anyone recall why the Niners were dominant in the late 80's through the 90's? Same reason. Weak division. |

Exactly!! Oh no wait, it was "the genius" who was ranked as the second greatest NFL coach by ESPN, despite getting abused by Parcells in that era. |
Re: Around the NFL 2013 Offseason (Version 5150)
ummmmm, I can see NE running all their division games, and maybe 4 or 5 more. Thats 11 wins and playoffs there. Tom Brady is one of the greatest of all time. Losing a posession receiver won't be the death of him, trust me. I remember people thinking he would take a step back when moss left, and then he had better numbers the next season.
They will be fine, and will win their division, bar none. There is no team in that division that can compete. |

Hernandez arrested according to reports

Yep, taken from his home in cuffs this morning.

Can you tell me his side of the story? Although things look very fishy, it is way too early to pronounce him guilty. We haven't heard his take yet. |

His side:
"OH $#!&, I better destroy my home security system and my phone and hire a cleaning crew to hide this!" |

Gun shots were heard outside his house the morning the guy was killed. The rental car in his name was found near the scene of the crime, which was less than a mile away from his home. Whether Hernandez killed him or not, he had something major to do with this murder, and therefore should be in prison for killing or aiding in the killing of his friend. Simple as that. |

Re: Around the NFL 2013 Offseason (Version 5150)
Man, people suck up to the Patriots so much. I'm sure they will be fine this season, just pointing out some things that are different (including a HUGE scandal) and will make it harder for them to run up the score on teams like in previous year. If they win fine, if they lose, I won't be losing any sleep over it.

Let the process play out.
He's definitely guilty of something related to the murder investigation. The DAs office would not have asked a judge to issue am arrest warrant for such a high profile public figure otherwise. Given the delay between the warrant allegedly being issued and the arrest being executed, coupled with the manner in which e arrest was carried out, means he's guilty if something |

You don't have to be Dick Tracey to know that he's involved, one way or another. Also I just heard that New England is flat out cutting him. |

Oh c'mon. Your just going off the whole "innocent until proven guilty " line, but you know he had something major to do with this. Your talking like a lawyer. The fact that New England just released Hernandez tells me even more now that they haven't been getting good news out of this investigation. |
So you haven't heard his side of the story yet you are still pronouncing him guilty.
The US public no longer (don't know if it ever really did) operates on the innocent until proven guilty philosophy. It now far more ready to believe guilty first, and conviction later. I like to think that when in the jury room, innocence is presumed, and the burden is still on the prosecution to prove otherwise but not convinced that is always the case. |

You've pronounced him guilty of murder so you certainly know an answer to my question with precision. I'll tell you what, next time that you are in a situation in which you are surrounded by damning circumstantial evidence, we'll pronounce you guilty without giving you a chance to defend yourself. That's what you are doing to Hernandez. Of course his actions look fishy. But to pronounce guilt without allowing him a defense is unAmerican. |
Re: Around the NFL 2013 Offseason (Version 5150)
Can't say I feel sorry for Hernandez. Whether he's guilty of pulling the trigger or not, he has no one to blame but himself for putting himself in a very poor situation.

There is no point to waste a roster space on him, and deal with ongoing media questions, if they have the cap room to cut him. |

Team's statement from the article:
A young man was murdered last week and we extend our sympathies to the family and friends who mourn his loss. Words cannot express the disappointment we feel knowing that one of our players was arrested as a result of this investigation. We realize that law enforcement investigations into this matter are ongoing. We support their efforts and respect the process. At this time, we believe this transaction is simply the right thing to do.
Wow. As for "innocent until proven guilty issues", the court of public opinion is not bound by any such stricture. To date, the facts known point to his guilt of some involvment and his actions have done nothing to dissuade such a conclusion. What can be proved in a court of law is an entirely different matter. |
Re: Around the NFL 2013 Offseason (Version 5150)
The Pats cutting him, I'd think means that at the very least he is going to be charged with accessory to murder.
