Re: Skins vs Eagles week 1
The thing which keeps bothering me going into this game is that a lot of Skins fans (including myself) are overly confident. Some people are predicting an onslaught of points.
Another thing that worries me about the Eagles is McCoy, Vick and DeSean Jackson. Those guys, we rarely play all 3 of them at once, because one of those guys is usually hurt. Well we get all 3 of them healthy at once. These 3 are very explosive. A rookie safety and injury riddled strong safety doesn't help stop those 3 players. A lot of people have mentioned, and I'd have to agree, that McCoy in the zone read/stretch zone is going to be scary and tough to stop. He's already shifty and elusive as hell in a normal offense. I just have visions of McCoy in the open field and Rambo and him are 1 on 1 and McCoy just jukes the hell out of Rambo for a long TD run. Vick has said that he feels like Chip Kelly has made him a better QB again by putting him in the pass happy offense. We shall see if he's playing like the Vick of old (2010, 2004) or the Vick of the past few years. Lets not forget, he can still run, and we don't fair well against Vick as a starter, history has shown. Another side of this game to think about is the star player, RG3. He hasn't played in a game in 8 months. He hasn't taken a hit or sack in 8 months. He's going to be rusty to start off the game. His teammates haven't been catching passes with him under center 11 on 11, up until this past week when he was cleared to practice. Its going to be a matter of when will the rust come off? The first snap? The first series? first quarter? first game? I remember Tom Brady a few years ago coming off a torn ACL and he was clearly freaked out and not himself going against the Bills (ironically they were featuring their new up tempo offense as well). The other thing we need to think about is the Zorn effect. You're confused, by 'Zorn Effect', what I'm saying is the effect of having a new head coach with an unknown system. We think we know what Kelly is going to run in the NFL, but we still have no clue what he's going to call on certain downs. Just like Zorn other teams didn't know Zorn had the guts to call a draw on 4th and 2 from the 48. They didn't know Zorn would call trick plays on special teams. But like all new head coaches, they are figured out by about the midway point of the season when all teams have enough tape to figure out new coaches plays and tendencies. They problem is the we don't play our first game against Philly after week 8, we play them week 1. That is eerily concerning. Whats to say the eagles don't start hot, RG3 is slightly rusty 2 series in and we start panicking early on forcing plays or stupid fumbles or penalties then the whole game we're playing catch up to a potentially explosive offense, while Phillys crap defense can play a bend but don't break approach with a 14-0 lead.. (I'm just saying this to play the cautious side of things. I still think we win big)
All good points. I expect Philly to score points and move the ball on us. I just expect us to score more. But this will be a close game. Count on it. But of course I hope I'm wrong. |

Skins fans, I include my self, need to realize this is not the 2000-2010 Skins anymore. There is a quality staff (not just BA/MS, but across the board) and they are developing dynamic young talent. Negative nancy's will be lacking in material this year. |
Re: Skins vs Eagles week 1
After decrying Negative Nancy's, I will throw this out there. Expect fumbles this year. That was Griffin's biggest flaw, even if they usually bounced our way. Defenses will see that on tape, and attack him more now. Also, the handoff between him and the backs other than Morris, I remember Morris talking about how Griffin holds it so long, and early last preseason, there were quite a few fumbled exchanges.
I think it will take a couple games for those type issues to be resolved. |

"Also, owning DeSean Jackson is like volunteering to have your nipples removed." Damn, those comments were AMAZING. This is exactly why I don't go into Philly any more. I think you got to have realistic/negative whatever you want to call them, fans on every board to 'pump the brakes' per say, for all the other overly optimistic fans. Because if its a loss, we all know it'll be an even bigger let down than usual for those very optimistic fans. But I do agree we are turning the corner as a franchise, with drafting and Lockerroom leadership as well as better team play. But it doesn't matter if your an awful franchise or a Super Bowl winning franchise, upsets occur. It's the NFL, any given Sunday anything can happen. |
Williams has a history of losing his temper on the field. He was sidelined during a joint practice with the New England Patriots after getting into a facemask-grabbing situation after a play. Williams was fined a couple of times last year, while he was with the Baltimore Ravens. He and DeSean Jackson were each fined $10,000 for tussling in a September game, and Williams was fined $15,750 for a late hit in a game against Denver. Williams avoided punishment for shoving an official during the Super Bowl.
Sounds like Riley Cooper wasn't actually the problem here. Going to be fun to watch the Eagles melt down all year. |

Cant wait to see our running game balls deep in the that Philly Defense. Alf, Helu are in for big games. With Philly's problem stopping the run, Kyle is gonna take advantage of it and will have an opportunity to ease RG3 into the game. Id look for short, quick easy throws first half to go along with an aggressive running game. Second half continue to pound the rock maybe go more aggressive downfield with the play action stuff.

Re: Skins vs Eagles week 1
So, when one of your WRs and one of your CBs get into a fist-fight on the sidelines, what's the penalty? Looks like we may find out on Monday.
All joiking aside, I assume that there is none for such a scenario, but could you imagine a better "welcome to the NFL, jerkweed" moment than Kelly's team getting a 15 yard penalty for something not involving its opponent? Would be beautiful. Michael Vick is smoothing things over. I love it. You know he whispered to Cooper's ear, "Hey, man. I will let this go once for the good of the team. But if I ever hear that sh_t again from you, I will let loose my dogs on your ass. And you know my dogs can handle themselves." |

Re: Skins vs Eagles week 1
Sure CB59, anything can happen on any given Sunday, it's why they play the game. Just b/c something may happen doesn't mean it's realistic to think it will happen. The sun may not come up tomorrow, I am not, however, going to lose a moment's sleep over it. None, and I mean NONE, of your nervous nelly, sky-is-falling, end-of-the-world whimperings are anything that cause me one "realistic" pang of worry for Monday Night. Let's review:
1. The Eagles "Big Three"? Well, let's start with the obvious, shall we? Vick sucks. Oh, he has physical talents - no denying that, and sometimes his play makes you think he doesn't suck, but then, the real Vick shows up and you realize his good plays were the equivalent of lipstick on a pig. He is saying the same things now he said the last two years under Reid ... "I am learning to be a better QB", "I am committed to developing as a disciplined passer", "Coach's system is really good for me." blah blah blah. Leadership? When has he ever elevated the play of others? Not "win by creating points through athleticism" but truly made other players better by building them up. An example of what I am talking about is comment RGIII made in one of those mic'd up moments during last year's final game - On the final drive, in the huddle for all the team to hear, he makes a comment - "y'all know what were going to do, let's do it", then turns to Morris and - in front of the whole team - says something like "Take us home, win this for us". ... The crowd's chanting Griffin's name, the game is on the line, it's time for the star player to take over and march triumphant, but, instead, Griffin turns to Morris and very publicly says "You are the man, not me. You take the glory." I bet Morris would have run over lava in barefeet and through a brickwall for Griffin at that point. That's real leadership. Vick simply does not have this. Never has. Never will. When has he ever inspired his teammates to excel. They are in awe of his talents and believe in him because of them, but that ain't leadership. Vick. Sucks. - DeSean "one trick pony" Jackson? Catch some contested balls over the middle, then maybe you may be a threat without Maclin on the other side. For now, Chris Nield can cover their WR2 and everybody else will watch MeSean. - McCoy is shifty and a threat. He, however, is not going to win this on his own. He gets two TD's - one off a long run - and that is the extent of the Eagles scoring. 2. RGIII rusty? freaked out b/c he hasn't taken a hit? I call so much bullsh** on that. The man is, generally, driven to excel and has, specifically, been driving himself to excel at this moment to prove himself to the doubters. To even consider RGIII's offseason prep as a reason to doubt his in-game performance in this nationally televised Monday Night Football home opener is to ignore the reality of his historic ability to play his best in big games. Given his drive and history as a player, it is "realistic" to believe that Griffin may be dominant Monday night. On the other hand, for those same reasons, worries about RGIII's ability to over come "eight months without a hit" isn't a realistic concern - it's a namby pamby exercise in hand wringing over a non-issue. If this causes you worry, how the hell do you even get out of bed in the morning?! 3. The Zorn Effect? Let's be clear, the Skins went 6-0 in spite of Zorn not b/c of him. He was handed a cohesive, talented team coming off an inspirational run that had been built by a masterful coach. The momentum from the previous year is what carried them through not anything Zorn did. I could have coached them to 6-0. Had Gibbs stayed, that team was going places. Zorn, however, had no clue how to keep the machine purring when tough times hit and the wheels came off. Finally, IF this team gets behind, it is not going to panic. It's the same guys who came back from 3-6, who won close nail biters and came from behind along the way. This team is built to bear down not give up. The Eagles, on the other hand, ... Sure, everything could go wrong and we could lose, maybe. Worrying about that is not "keeping it real", it is unrealistic whining based on regurgitated sound bite analysis and ignores the reality of where these two team were and where they are now. One is realistically on the brink of dominance, the other is realistically on the brink of implosion. And that's how you keep it real. |
