I'll be a little surprised if we spend money on an interior lineman. Probably promote from within/address in the draft. Maybe something like move Lichtenstieger to C, plug in LeRib at one guard and competition between Gettis and a draft pick for the other starting spot.

I think we should sign Schwartz at right guard then let LeRib and Gettis compete for LG. move lichtenstieger to C.

Not opposed to that, I think there are more pressing needs at WR and RT that our dollars are better allocated towards however. G can be a draft pick in the 2nd or 3rd round and be much cheaper than spending big $ on one in FA.

Schwartz is interning in DC for ESPN980 so a lot of people naturally believe he will be joining the Redskins. I wouldn't make that connection necessarily

Is there any good reason to think LeRebeus, or Gettis is ready to start ? neither one has ever started a game (per NFL.com)

With the Skins looking for a NT/DT type, three FA's come to mind:

Linval Joseph, 6-4 323
Red Bryant, 6-4 323
Terrance Cody, 6-4 340

Anyone heard any rumors or have any thoughts on any of these three or other possible Redskins targets?

It looks like the Skins are planning to beef up the D-Line by moving Coefield and Baker to DE and bringing in a big NT. I'd like to see them play a little 4-3, too, with Orakpo and Kerrigan at the DE positions.

Red Bryant may be the best bargain of the four DT's mentioned.

Sacks by our defensive linemen last year:
Cofield 2.5
Jarvis Jenkins 2.0
Baker 1.0

Ergo, total by entire defensive line: 5.5 sacks

Because of this, I think pushing Cofield to the wing and putting someone like Joseph in the middle is a great idea. We need more pressure from the front 3.

That's right. With more inside pressure we'll get more sacks and hurries from Orakpo and Kerrigan, more turnovers, more help for the secondary, etc. Football is a team game.

Hopefully, Coefield and Baker will lose a little weight to improve their quickness now that they both will be moved to DE.

Revamping the entire line minus one guy is pretty tough. I think we might have 1-2 new starters max.

Average cap space = $21,082,653, so the Skins are smack dab in the middle. (if you take out the top and bottom 2 just because, then it drops to $19,724,306. )

I don't know that that means anything at all, other than a "good" FO ought to be able to work with the space we have. Since I think we have a good one now, I am hoping that we see some positive and sensible moves from the Skins in the next few days.

I can't imagine how busy all the FO's are right now, well except for Dallas LOL

No thanks. He is too much of a liability back there. Why do you think it was Eric Decker back there towards the end of the season. They didn't trust him. The last thing we need is to give the opponent a short field.

But if you sign him for that price...then what? Keep going until all the holes are filled and all the cap dollars are used, or still play it close to the vest after adding a talented player like Byrd who is already in his prime years?

You could go either way, I suppose, but there's a difference between signing Jairus Byrd just so you'll have Jairus Byrd and signing him in an effort to put a much better defense on the field.

Basically, do you grab Byrd, Spikes, and Linval Joseph (overpaying all three if necessary), or is Byrd the end game?

Teams have so much room to spend this year that I think FA will be one helluva free-for-all, right from the start. The Skins had better get on the players they want right away and have Plans B,C, and D in place, as well.

Last year, TB signed Dashon Goldson to a 5 year/$41.25MM contract with $18MM guaranteed. I think it's reasonable to expect Byrd's contract to exceed Goldson's.

Well since Byrd alone can't turn the defense around, then if you do sign him there is no way we can stop there. But overpaying 3 players is crazy Vinny stuff of course he would just stop with Byrd.

I would look at a cheaper option at FS and focus resources on the entire team not one position.

I love Free Agency! The more teams with money to spend, the better the show.

Heaven help any team that gets into a bidding war with the Raiders, Jaguars, or Browns! What if the three of them get into a bidding war amongst themselves over a player?

Does anyone know if the Raiders have said they'd be active in FA? I'm wondering if the financial health of the franchise will hold them back. If they don't spend big, it will drive Raider Nation (more) crazy!

Watch out for the Jags! They have an extremely wealthy owner who will spend and he wants to someday move his team to London. He's got big plans for his franchise.

The city of Cleveland and the Browns organization are both horrible in so many ways. Nevertheless, they have plenty of cap room and they will spend.

Indy is also a real threat in FA. Irsay has a lot of cap space and he will spend. Indy has a lot to sell in regard to the team on the field. They are an improving young team and Andrew Luck will be around for many years to lead them.
