There are still some good veteran CB's available, Cromartie, Revis. Rogers, Graham, Terrell Brown, etc.

Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
I'm confused by two updates today....
1) Santana resigning (is he the slot or maybe returner?) 2) Don't we have enough DE's? An aging DE wasn't one of my top needs. Both moves seem like "cap eaters" to me early in the process. I'd rather land a safety upgrade that we need in the worst way. Clemmons may be my last hope. That said, I do like the Roberts move. Here's hoping for a Safety & oline on day 2. Hail! Ooops...didn't see that we signed a Guard earlier...guess that counts as O-line! |
Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
Lol talking about a 5+ mil for an old mediocre safety, and then you talk about a DE on the wrong side of 30 being a key addition. I wouldn't mind bringing Smith in a low budget, 1-2 year deal, but he's gonna be looking for "I need one last payday before I retire" money.
The DE on the wrong side of 30 had 5 sacks, the entire DL had 5.5 , and he will not cost $1 million dollars per sack. ...signing vets with a few good years left to short term contracts would be smart |

Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
The field is getting rather thin at FS. I just can't believe that we wouldn't lock up Mitchell at a little over 5 mil per year, the guy is really good. His missed tackles could have been coached up (see DeAngelo Hall the past 2 seasons). Maybe we are going to roll with Phhilip Thomas, Merriweather and our 2nd round pick as a safety? Or some combination of that?

Jackson just can't be counted on at all, I was hoping we were past that. |

Crazy idea but maybe Rambo can improve in year 2.

I wouldn't count Jackson out, TJ Ward would have been a great pick up @ 5.5 mil |

That would be so awesome, but from what I saw, I just can't get past how out of position he was on so many plays. Physically he is fine, its just between the ears with him it seems. That and his tackling at times. But with the Redskins, I love being proven wrong. |

Or maybe the Offense is top 5 again and we can worry about Safety next year. Teams that suck in Pass D go far all the time as long as they excel elsewhere. If the Skins go anywhere next year, it's going to be because of the potency of their Offense. They're not going to become the 49ers, Panthers or Seahawks on D in a single off season no matter who they sign. |
Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
If we can sign Corey Graham, DeAngelo Hall could be moved to FS. He is a playmaker with range and a smart vet who could QB the defense. Good corners have moved to safety late in their careers and played very well there. Hall has said that he'd be open to playing the position.
PhillipThomas is going to surprise some people when he becomes the starter at SS. I'm just hoping that the Skins won't let Corey Graham and Antonio Smith get out of town without signing them to contracts. I thimk they are both good players who fit our needs. |

Talib to the Broncos, I think

yes, $57 million 6 years, and $26 guaranteed |
Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
This could be a crazy thought but maybe the Re dskins are willing to see what they get out of Rambo and Thomas before throwing 10mill at a safety
|
Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
Ward and Talib with Ware on the way. Guess the realized how shitty that defense was.

Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
Im actually really disapointed in FA day1 ill be honest. Few resignings, few special teamers, and possible replacement/backup for OL? Wtf was Allen doing today.. playing golf while Mitchell was being signed by Pitt or what???? If we have the same secondary were fkd.. corey graham mark my words isnt the answer. Smh.

Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
The skins are being smart by not over paying some of these FA, like John Keim says there are some big contracts coming up next year (RGIII, Williams, Garçon, Morris) don't want to shoot your load and end like Dallas next year.

Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
I believe it's reflective of what they are trying to do and what most fans have been screaming for in years past: Grow your own.
21-23 players (out of 27 picks) from the last four drafts are likely to be on the day 1 roster. Not all of them are splashy. Not all of them are stars, but if the roster culture is going to change we are going to see more of these types of UFA day 1's. What has to happen now is twofold: (1) Young players need to step up; and (2) the team needs to win. If they can do those two things, chasing after big UFA's to fill real roster holes will stop and UFA will become a time when we pick up an upgrade here or there. if you want to build from within, you gotta give the guys that are "in" a chance to develop and not churn through the back end of the roster while you overpay for guys who may or may not pan out. Even that's true of the younger guys, at least you aren't wrecking your salary structure over imports. (i.e. if Riley regresses and we need to cut him, it simply is not going to cause a whole lot of cap pain). |
Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
soo the broncos had roughly 16 million under the cap but landed Talib and are the favorites to get Ware......how does that work?

Dude hasn't played football in two years, and is still suspended, I think it's officially time to stop mentioning his name. |
Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
With nearly every area of the team in need of upgrades, we should have realized that the Skins were probably not going to sign any top FA's other than Orakpo. Bruce Allen even said that he wanted to add 20 new players this off-season.
Still, I was anticipating one more top FA signing, like a kid hoping for a pony at Christmas. Now, it looks like we're going to have to build a better foundation before that happens. I'm not complaining (much). It makes sense but ...WHERE'S MY PONY?!!! |

Maybe those guys didn't want to come here or management finally realized that winning free agency each year never works. |
Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
Honestly, I thought the Redskins did pretty all right yesterday. They avoided most of the huge free agency mis-steps. They weren't one of the teams that got a lot better yesterday, but they have most of their cap room available still and can still find some value later on.
I remain perplexed by the way they evaluate the players they do sign, but they do seem very able to get a deal done with a player they want, particularly on offense. I'll be interested to see what the plan is on defense going forward, but they haven't missed out on all this talent that people are suggesting. They've mostly just missed out on huge, problematic contracts. |
Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
Super Bowls are won in April, not in March, so these moves have been good. They are not falling in love with names which is great. I think they are copying what Seattle does, which we all saw what that turned into.

Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
So, going into day 2 of free agency, our needs still include:
a safety more ol help another starter at ilb a number 2 wr dl a back up te and cb not panicking, there is still time and there is still the draft, but a lot of free agency depth disappeared yesterday. it will be interesting to see if we make some moves today (frugal ones I am guessing) now that the market has sorted itself out some. |
Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
how good was Mitchells deal? hes the only one I feel like woulda been a safe option. young, gonna get better. the Raiders let him go wayyy to soon. I think not getting him in peticular bothered me. Byrd was the dumb move I knew and hoped we wouldn't do.
this free agency group was kinda weak. |
Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
nevermind Mitchell not as young as I thought he was. alright. win.
