Re: Pick 47 Trent Murphy
i just don't want to see him walk, it would be nice to get something in return.

Re: Pick 47 Trent Murphy
I don't want to see Orakpo leave, period. He's an elite pass rusher, and the best we have. If the pass rush is going to be the focal point of our defense, you don't let him walk unless he has outrageous salary demands, as in 15 million a year.

Re: Pick 47 Trent Murphy
I think the Redskins were targeting Marcus Smith, who the Eagles drafted in the first round. Smith is a boon or bust type of player. One thing that stands out about him that you can't deny is - he's got a lot of speed. I'm hoping that he doesn't have enough strength on the nfl level.
Trent Murphy is the less flashy type of player. He'll quietly produce, which in alot of ways will be good - especially for his teammates. |
Re: Pick 47 Trent Murphy
Michael Sam is not a better pass rusher than Murphy. He may be faster and more explosive, but Murphy is stronger, has longer arms, and uses this and his hand technique to his advantage. Being a different kind of pash rusher will make it a bit harder for the opposing offensive linemen to handle.

Re: Pick 47 Trent Murphy
There was an analyst earlier in thread who compared him to Jared Allen, who was a 4th round pick in 2004 who ran a 4.7 40. Below is a SI.com review of Allen in 2004. Who knows what Murphy will do, if he will live up the 2nd round drafting spot -- but I'm hoping he does..
Jared Allen: NEGATIVES: Overall game lacks explosion, a closing burst to the ball carrier and strength. At times easily ridden from the play or handled at the point. SI.com - 2004 NFL Draft - Jared Allen
Check out this highlight at 5:10seconds. He really mauls the RT & jumps over him, hope he does this for us..
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LfKf8QsA6-E#t=309
|
Re: Pick 47 Trent Murphy
Starting to like this pick more and more, probably because of the similarities I see between him and JJ Watt. One of Watt's biggest negatives coming out was a lack of explosion coming off the line, while some of his postives were: great hand technique in getting off blocks, great hustle/relentless motor, high football IQ, and a knack for batting down passes and generally making big plays. Sound familiar? Yeah, I thought so too...
I'm not saying Trent Murphy is going to have as big of an impact as JJ Watt, but I do think he can become a very good player who impacts the game in a variety of ways. I think that we will look back on our FO's trade-back and subsequent selections in the 2nd as nothing short of outstanding in a few years. And no, I'm not being a homer. :D Edit: *selection |

Re: Pick 47 Trent Murphy
He's signed, per the Redskins

Re: Pick 47 Trent Murphy
Sweet. Is that all of them then? or is Moses still unsigned?

Re: Pick 47 Trent Murphy
Love the comments on Facebook about Murphy being signed. Multiple dopes saying "he looks small". Yeah, 6-5 250 lbs is small.

I thought he was 260 and dropped 10lbs, I think he will put on another 15 lbs of muscle, but yeah clearly 6'6" 250lbs is small. |

a time of wonder and astonishment....the pure joy of ignorance abounds. Enjoy it while you can. |
Re: Pick 47 Trent Murphy
Am I the only one who doesn't hate this the idea of this kid coming here? Maybe because I don't watch college football and I've never heard of him until now but let's see how he does during the season. I mean honestly that's the only way to tell what a guys capable of doing.

Jordan has potential and I iiked what I saw but let's give him more than a year and see if he can stay healthy. For what its worth I'd rather have Orakpo than Kerrigan. I'm just not sold on #91. |
Re: Pick 47 Trent Murphy
Kerrigan, Trent Williams, Rak, RG3, and AlfMo are our big contracts coming up in the next couple of years.

Wonder what Morris will ask, assuming he continues to put up 1000+ yard seasons. Maybe 6 mil? The others will be a real b**** to resign; maybe 10 for Kerrigan, 12 for Trent, 12-13 for Orakpo, and 20 for G3(using today's cap limit)? But who do you let walk out of that group? Griffin, Trent, and either Orakpo or Kerrigan are the must resigns. And you have to think about Reed's upcoming contract if he gets over the injury thing, plus Garcon's, Jackson's, and Hatcher's large contracts. Some of our best young draftees right now will be gone in 2 years, victims of cap restraints. Or not? Will we actually resign all those players? Just hand-wringing out loud... |
I won't be surprised if Morris doesn't see a 2nd contract here. Just makes no sense to pay backs big money anymore.
Also no need to start sweating the cap now without knowing where it might be 2-3 years from now. |

I envision Gruden being more of a pass-first guy anyway, so Morris's role will probably drop off. Also, people are doing the math on the cap based on back of the envelope figures based on average annual salary. As we should all know by now, average annual salary does not equate to cap hit. You can have a deal worth $10M per year but a cap hit of only $6M - $8M in the first few years. They can afford to keep this nucleus together if they want to. But yeah, so much changes in the NFL from year to year, no sense even worrying about it now. |

Unfortunately for the RB's of the league, unless something is done to create a way to pay them, they just won't see big 2nd deals anymore. Also agree about the Cap. At the start of the league year Dallas looked to be in a god awful cap situation, they currently have 8Million that will have a good chunk roll over to next year. I certainly expect and hope that the FO is paying attention to it, but I doubt there are very many fans that should be worrying about what will happen with contracts 3 years out. |

You can't count on resigning everyone, or everyone demanding money that correlates to their production. We're going to lose some guys, it's life. We need to make sure we lose the right guys and have people behind them. Trent, Griffin, and Kerrigan are musts for me. I'm not an Orakpo fan - unless he comes down in price to where I believe is reasonable. If there's one thing we've always been good at it's negotiating the cap year in-year out. It'd be nice to see that put to use with quality players that contribute to making a quality team, instead of what we saw over the last 14 years. |

Neither has shown consistency. OverPaying Kerrigan would be just as bad a overpaying orakpo. Both are flash players against weak tackles. |

I disagree, I think kerrigan has shown more than that. But, my larger thought is that he won't demand top dollar like orakpo currently is. That may not wind up working out, we'll see. |
Re: Pick 47 Trent Murphy
Orakpo needs to bump up his game this year to earn his money.

If he winds up with another 1300-1600 yard season, it would be hard to justify not keeping Alf. Of course I understand that in today's NFL, the backs play second fiddle to quarterbacks and receivers, but I think you still need a solid running game to make it all work. |

I'm very interested in seeing if Morris can be that rare post-Shanahan RB with success. To be honest, he probably will be fine but there are plenty of guys I'm looking to lock up before AlfMo |

From what I've gathered, he's been solid overall and has made some big plays. Also, I've heard it mentioned a few times that he's always one of the last guys off the field. I still think this guy will be a beast. In case you haven't read it, here's Keim's rookie report on Murphy from 6 days ago: |
