Re: Let's talk OTA's
I have a gnawing doubt in my mind about just how good an NFL QB RGIII can be. I thought he could be outstanding when we drafted him yet I need to see more from him to be convinced that he can be a Franchise QB.
I actually hate that I feel this way about RGIII because I want him to be great. If and when he becomes a Franchise QB, you might be able to project an improving Skins team to win the division. If he doesn't become one, then we can expect to be also rans. Again, the Eagles should be the favorite to win the division because they are the most complete team in the division and therefore the least dependent on the play of their QB. That directly correlates to the fact that, right now, there are questions about Eli (Giantone might disagree), Romo, and RGIII. But if one, two or all of those three should have very good seasons, then it will be a dog fight.
Maybe it's a little over-homerism on my part but I'm willing to toss out 2013 when considering if RGIII will be a franchise QB. If someone asked the question after the Ravens game (assuming he didn't get hurt) in '12 if RGIII was about to become a franchise QB, there would have been resounding yesses. His rookie numbers, simply passing numbers, are a great indicator of his future success. Last season, as painful as it was to watch, even showed spurts of excellence, especially shortly before he got benched. Go back and watch the Bears, Chargers, Giants and Vikings games. Passing wise, he was making plays, accurate with the football, all that we need him to be. I think he tuned the coaches out at some point last season (which was immature of him) which also contributed to his sloppy mechanics and results but he seems like a different person this year with Gruden. |

Guess I'm not familiar with his face just yet. |

End of discussion. It's over. New year, new coach, new weapons for him on offense and he's got a full off-season thanks to Shanahan lol. No excuses. He's got everything going for him to really take off this year. But he still has to go do it. I'm in wait and see mode, not homerism mode :) You also have to remember that this is OTA's/mini -camps. There's going to be some adversity sooner or later so we'll see how that goes when the situation comes. |

Re: Let's talk OTA's
http://www.rotoworld.com/headlines/nfl/289362/redskins-$27m-de-hatcher-needs-knee-scoped
Redskins DE Jason Hatcher will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his knee Thursday and be out 4-6 weeks. One of the free agency's worst contracts now looks even worse. Hatcher, who will turn 32 next month, signed a four-year, $27.5 million deal with the Redskins in March as he came off a career-high 11 sacks (he had 16 in the seven previous seasons combined). The scope is just a minor clean-out procedure, but any knee surgery is scary for a player on the wrong side of 30. If the Redskins are going to have any prayer of correcting last year's leaky defense, they desperately need Hatcher to be getting after the quarterback in Week 1 and performing at his 2013 level. per rotoworld |
Re: Let's talk OTA's
^That really sucks. I hope it's not a serious issue that never allows him to play up to his contract. After what Jay and Hatcher said about it, I didn't think it would be that serious, but now I wonder.
On a more positive note, in the link below is a video of Hall talking to the media. I love what he has to say about Amerson. I'm thinking we're gonna need some avatars of him sooner rather than later. Redskins Video |

Could have been had for much cheaper. |
Better now than during the season. Plenty of time for him to be ready for camp.

My guess is they were looking at two years out of Hatcher. |
Re: Let's talk OTA's
Please let a young interior lineman man up. Jenkins and Baker and hopefully someone new. Golston shouldn't make it to training camp. I'm just wishful thinking out loud.

He could be useful on special teams or giving breathers. |

Or eating into playing time from Kerrigan or Orakpo. |
Or eating into playing time from Kerrigan or Orakpo.
If Jenkins is good enough to take actual playing time from Orakpo or Kerrigan, rather than just giving them breathers, we will have one heck of a pass rush. |
Jenkins might be improved but it would be a big stretch to imagine him taking away reps from Kerrigan or Rak. He's not even a lock to make the team yet. At best he's still a situational player.
|
Re: Let's talk OTA's
It's also not unheard of for a coach to pump up a bubble player to motivate the rest of the position group ahead of training camp. Guys like Rob Jackson could be thinking 'shit I better get my act together' and that could be intended.
Not saying Jenkins doesn't deserve the praise but sometimes coaches have an ulterior motive. |
Re: Let's talk OTA's
While I don't think it makes or breaks a season, I like it when the team can do something like this at the end of OTA:

Why do I remember him playing inside? Did they move him around a bit in the pre season his rookie year? |

He didn't play ST last season. Big problem for him in making the team if he doesn't find a role on ST (now that they matter again). |
Re: Let's talk OTA's
Rich Tandler predicted that Adam Gettis will beat out Josh LeRibeus for a reserve OL spot because, he says, Gettis is more versatile. I disagree with Rich. As far as I know, both players can play both OG spots and C. Is that correct? If so, they're both versatile so I think they'll keep the bigger player, LeRibeus.
I like the potential of LeRibeus. I never said he can't play, just that he was fat and lazy. Now, he has gotten in shape and he's working hard. He must have grown up a little. I think that Gettis can hold his own but that LeRibeus has the potential to dominate opponents. I would not cut the player with the greater upside and that player is LeRibeus, IMHO. |
Re: Let's talk OTA's
I really do hope one of our defensive lineman (I am looking at you Chris Baker) can become that dominant lineman, he has the potential

Yeah, we need some of the DL to step up, especially now with Hatcher being uncertain. Baker in particular needs to prove Allen didn't waste $9 million in cap on him, but Jarvis needs to take a step forward as well. He's been solid, but hasn't exactly lived up to his draft status. |

Hatcher will be ready to go. I agree about Jenkins and Baker. It doesnt really matter that much though because we are going to score 72 points a game. 😛 |

Jenkins I didn't like from the moment they said his name in the draft, but I digress. Hopefully one of them can be that dominant guy on the defensive line, because while Hatcher and Cofield are solid, none of them are getting any younger. |

call me a pessimist but ive seen this opening act before with a new coach - team says they feel a sense of relief and there is a vibe of positivity in the locker room and excitement about what the new coach brings, working to each players' strength, scheme .. yada yada yada hip hip hooray! rinse - wash - repeat every 4 years. hopefully RG3 can break the cycle. |
