Would it be fair to say he inherited an absolute shit show? Can we give him more than 19 games to get his guys and his philosophy in place? Look at the turnover on this team since the 2013 season ended. Not to mention the circus sideshow that has been the RG-3 saga he walked into. Im not saying he is gonna be great, but I dont think many coaches in history would have turned our team around at this point.
He walked into a pure shit show, thanks to Snyder, Allen and Shanahan. Hopefully Gruden gets three years. Successful organizations don't fire coaches every couple years. Let this staff grow another year with a lot of these young players. My issue with the team is the penalties. Just dumb shit week after week with these guys. It's been this way for so long too, before Gruden got here. |
Re: Giants Post Game Reactions
J is the HC.
It all flows from him. He is in control. As he goes so goes the team. Whatever he inherited its up to him to bring stability, identity and to begin to right the ship and move in the right direction and eventually to win. J has spent most of his time actively trying to prove one of the QBs he inherited isn't any good. I believe if half the energy that went into tearing down Griffin went to not starting a newly activated LB as punt protector OR not having Carrier block the POA on a critical edge run...etc...he and the team would be better for it. |

As far as the qb position goes I'd love to just ship griffin to Tennessee for mettenburger but that's not happening so we are stuck with kirk and just have to hope he turns his career around.
Re: Giants Post Game Reactions
vince lombardi is a good coach, but his stint here wasn't a winning season. you can't will rgiii to play like aaron rodgers, that's just not how it works. if a team is lacking talent, you do the best with what you have and wait until you can get better players.
I don't think J is a great HC right now, and i'm not sure he'll ever be one, but you can't preach accountability and then not hold certain players accountable. that's just a generally bad idea. anyways, kirk had a bad game, J got away from the run way too early (maybe they felt the giants were too strong there? or the injuries changed the plan? still, we can't be throwing it 50 times very often w/ the current cast). both ints were bad throws, the first one was an obvious no throw before it even left his hands. if you catch a db breaking in like that, you gotta know better. lerib looked bad getting pushed around out there too. reed has to stop getting pi flags and jones needs to stop fumbling. the coaching staff needs to show they can scout opponents and self scout tendencies better, cause they didn't seem to do a very good job there. i think that's enough for me. |
Cousin's arm strength is really his issue, if he was able to zip balls quicker he would be pretty good. 10 yards and under he is ok, I think teams are gonna try and force him to throw it longer now. The offensive line was really pretty decent last night, even with the injuries, plenty of time to throw the ball most plays. Thompson, Ross, Crowder, alot to excited about. I'm worried Trent Murphy will be another wasted 2nd rounder, we needed Gallette bad last night.
People should research before speaking out their ass. Kirk played bad, but doesn't lack arm strength. Now his accuracy is the question. |

I saw a team who did not quit and play dead when they were down big to the Giants. Yeah I see progress. Again Im not saying he is the man or will be the man. Im saying lets give him more than 19 games. Its hard to measure progress in such a short time. That being said - yeah I see a difference in this years team vs recent history. I see consistent fight. I see consistent desire. Hopefully soon I see consistent wins. |

Re: Giants Post Game Reactions
I think this comment Jay Gruden made about Kirk is nearly perfect:
"He has to play through some of these pitfalls. We're hoping that he does," Gruden said. "We're hoping a more mature Kirk Cousins will bounce back from these performances. He did some great things, but there are some plays he needs to make to be a starting QB in the NFL and he will make. We just have to have patience and understand there will be rough times with a young quarterback. But he has to understand he can't put the team in risk and he has to protect the ball better. We'll see how it plays out." I just want to say that I like the way things are going right now. We have a very talented GM, a HC with the potential to become a long-term solution, good assistant coaches, and a QB that we might be able win with, in due time. I do not want to start over again with a new HC and new offensive and defensive systems unless and until it is obvious to just about everybody that we can't get to the top with Jay Gruden at the helm. At this point, many of the players do not know the systems they are playing in as well as they will in time. We need for that to happen just as much as we need to continue to upgrade our talent on the field. I'm sold on Scot. I'm liking what I see in Jay Gruden's growth as a HC. We'll see about Kirk but I think it's way too early to turn to someone else at that position. That said, I'm "In" for three years of team building with SM at the helm. |

Yes!! lets fire everybody including Bill callahan!! lets get Gruden gone now!! Hell I would fire him before the philly game!! Lets clean house and start over..lets give the new coach 3 games to prove himself and if he does not win lets fire him!!!! in all honesty this type of thinking is what has killed the redskins so far! 1 bad game against the Giants who really should be 3 and 0 ..oh wait they had coaching blunder at end of a game..sheez..they need to fire coughlin !! ..he should have not even been on the sideline of the redskin game..what was the Giants owner thinking?? I would take Gruden and staff over the cowboys and eagles situation..what the redskins need is to continue to play hard and get BETTER players and depth..the plays gruden called were there all night ..play calling was not the issue. turnovers..special teams..missed plays they are what happened! please lets stop this nonsense about firing the coach ! |

"But for Gruden the change stems from anointing him as the starter in the preseason and giving him a chance to develop as the starter by performance, not through injury. " This. It has been three games imo. Let him have a chance before they give up on him, and in a perfect world we win enough during his maturation that we not only stay in the division race, but also so we all stay sane and stop calling for everyones heads. |

U would take gruden and staff over over Dallas? Dallas o and d coordinators are probably the best in the league...anybody have a better 2? Not off the top of my head. I don't understand what plays were there all night? Are u talking about the one under throw to Reed? What plays there all night essential lead up to 6 points in 3 full quarters of play. 4 quarter was garbage time...game was essential over. If plays are their all night, 6 points that's it. gruden and o staff is completely absolved? I'm lost. You need to think back to the second half of the Miami game and much of the second half of the Rams game. This isn't just the embarrassment of Thursday night. |

The Redskins fan base is like the politics in DC. Half the fan base who like Kirk are also pulling for Jay to succeed. The other half that still pull for Griffin want Jay fired in hopes their beloved one will play again. I for one think we need stability and need to stay the course otherwise we will repeat the last 20 years of losing.

No matter how much you hate Gruden you have to have seen that? And yes he would be absolved for playcalling due to missed execution by Cousins. Cousins absolutely has made those throws in the past. Lets stop this nonsense that Cousins cannot throw 30 yards down the field because he is too weak, and Gruden should know better to ask Cousins to pull off such a monumental task. Lol. He did not execute. He had an off night. At this point in time though he is Grudens best option and depending on the defense you face on a week to week basis u r going to have to pass the ball sometimes. Edit: and before someone says "yeah but not 50 times" 20 of them were in desperation time. |

Griffen it too polarizing, and since the decision was made to move in a different direction, he should have been cut. Griffen was only effective as a read option QB, two straight dud years, and getting benched more than proves the point.
I think 30 Gut is, either that or my reading comprehension has gone bad.
30 Gut did call for Griffin to be released prior to the season. However, he sees things similar to me. I want Gruden to call what is good for the person on the field. But I dont see that from him. He is a single minded play caller who wont or cant change. If Griffin is the QB, then the game plan needs to be different than if KC is your QB. But I have yet to see Gruden be able to do that. He calls his style and doesnt seem to be able to change. What is RG3 the worst at? Straight drop back rhythm offense. What did Jay call for RG3? Exactly what he is worst at. This is not a defense of RG3, its a criticism of Gruden (even though most on this board are going to take it as a defense of RG3). To many people want to say if Gruden has the right players, he can succeed. Yet, there are hundreds of coaches that if they had the right players, they could also. Thats not exactly a ringing endorsement for Gruden. I would like a coach that can say this isnt working, let me try something else. He clearly saw KC struggling against the giants but decided if it didnt work the first 12 times, maybe it would the 13th. Yes, KC missed open receivers, but as a coach you have to see that he is struggling and make alterations. Gruden either cant or wont. Im not saying fire him now, thats pointless. But, if by the end of the year, he cant break that single mindedness that he has shown in 2 years here and however many years as the OC of the Bengals, then yes, I consider it a problem. I cant help but wonder what McC thinks about that also. But I am still putting my faith in McC. Whatever he decides is what I am rolling with. He had a solid first offseason here and he needs to be given the time to do what he does. If he thinks he can get Gruden the players to make it work, then im going with it. |

I make plans for every game and I make adjustments, too. For example, I had planned to go to the sports bar for the Giants game, but at the last minute my wife said she didn't feel like it. So, I quickly checked the fridge for beer and the pantry for snacks. As it turned out, I had to go to both the liquor store and the grocery store to pick up some beer, Doritos, jalapeņo poppers, etc. I had to hustle but I made it back home with my game plan just before kick-off. So I won. |
I'd love to see some fans try to make a gameplan..
Some fans will question every play that doesn't work. What irritates me the most is when everyone complains about doing the unexpected. Like when it is 4th and 1 from an opponent's 40 and everyone runs a go route. A wide open receiver (that makes the play a good call) drops a sure TD at the 10. Then all the fans say they should have ran up the middle and the OC is an idiot. The 49ers in their glory days under Walsh used to frequently burn defenses by doing the unexpected. |

Why are you talking about ownership? Snyder and jones aren't going anywhere. We are talking about removing gruden as the hc. Garret and his head coordinators are head and shoulders above ours. Please, it's not close. Gruden has done NOTHING to secure himself another year of head coaching. I'm trusting McC with the decision, but to say gruden is doing a grand effing job is laughable. |

I'd love gruden and his o coordinator to try as well And after they do it, they need to be able to make in game adjustments to win football games. That's part of the job. How about stop with the obvious pick plays that's cost us 3-4 penalties already. Or not call an obvious play action that was easily read by the defense and intercepted with our ass up against our own goal line. |
