Re: The after London semi-meltdown thread.
My glass is half full today.
Wasn't perfect but I'm proud of the team. We fought hard. We look like a playoff team or something very close. Just gotta keep grinding and improving. We're on the right track. Now to the refs - what a complete clown show out there. Head missiles and blatant facemasks go uncalled but somehow they're all over the ticky tack 5 yard penalties like a librarian chasing down an overdue book. Not to mention the Bengals are the dirtiest team in the league. Only Fisher's filthy Rams come close. One point the penalties were 10-2 against us. Total joke - refs should be ashamed. |
Glad you had a good time! My wife and I were wondering: were they giving out Bengals gear? It seemed like a TON of Bengals fans weirdly enough.
They put bengals flags on every single seat of the stadium, and shot bengals t-shirts in the stands during the game. I'm also guessing people without a favorite team yet would buy gear from the "home" team at the stadium nfl shop or one of the stadium gameday gear shops. |
Re: The after London semi-meltdown thread.
Ahh, very true. Thanks for the info!

Yop, I'm watching the game so I'll find them precisely but I can remember at least two more late hits or hits on a defenseless receiver that weren't called... |
Re: The after London semi-meltdown thread.
Cutting a good kicker for missing a FG? Seriously? I'm so glad people aren't coaching or GM of this team. I certainly believe that a team should have accountability, but you don't cut or even bench a guy for one mistake on the field. Hell, it's taken Matt Jones this long before I called for his benching.(and not even cutting)
This team showed it isn't bad, but it's also shown it can't suffer many mistakes and still win. |
Re: The after London semi-meltdown thread.
We wouldn't have a team left by week 3 if the fans made personnel decisions.

Work out some kinks, as someone else stated, and go from there once we return from the bye. I'm feeling rather good about us participating in postseason play. |

Was just looking up Lanier - not much on the guy. Small school prospect, college free agent. The only actual site saying anything about him said: good intangibles (leader, hard working, good motor); good athlete but too lean - would need to bulk up to stick around. One thing I've thought about today is, I think we should have tried to score a td on that drive. We had it inside the 20 y not just Keep pushing? Like Dallas did.. Idk it's hard to get a grasp on how to feel about a tie

29th on 3rd down for defense |

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using Tapatalk
Difference between the 2 is Dallas needed a TD to lock it up. A FG would of won for us. Our FG was 34 yards. Basically an extra point. 94% success rate. I had no issue with kicking it and going home. Just didn't work out that way |

That one is just on Hopkins caving under pressure (I have to say about 70% of the 84 488 people in Wembley were booing him pretty hard on his second attempt... you know... the one he miserably failed... the one that cost us the gaaaameeeaaaarg. Sorry). |
SMH... you can't just go around cutting guys when they have a bad game. When you have a shit day at work does your boss walk over to you and tell you to pack your bags? Hopkins has been more that solid for us.
It doesn't solve 100% of the problem, but i think it sends the message that "oh shit, i better perform because if I don't, i'm gone". Fire them up so to speak. I was calling for Cousins head at the beginning of the year because he was playing like garbage and basically losing us games with his backbreaking interceptions. I think he knew that he was on a short leash if it didn't get better and he manned up and look at how good he is doing now. If nothing else, bring in some FA kickers and work them out at Redskins Park, at least get in Hopkins head that they are looking at his position now and if he starts sucking, he's gone. Some players respond well from pressure like that and someone breathing on their neck, some don't. Not sure which kind hopkins is. |

Hopkins right now has to feel like sh*t. He knows he lost the game, failing to do the only thing he's being paid for. I'm really not sure he needs added pressure. I would agree that bringing the threat of losing your job could be a good tool with, for say, a lazy ass defense not tackling properly. But right now I think the only pressure Hopkins needs is from himself, and his teammates, saying "Man, we know you're better than that, you lost us one, now win us some". |
Re: The after London semi-meltdown thread.
Negatives:
-Again a non-victory because of a bullet in our foot. So frustrating. -My voice is broken because redskins fans in London were lazy as f*ck, had to call them out every 3rd down, guys with redskins gear all over their bodies quietly sitting on critical 3rd downs... drove me crazy. I'm starving to attend a game in DC now... -With the only other "active" redskins fan in my block, we didn't hear the timeout called, we were making fools of ourselves taking a victory selfie singing HTTR... Positives: -Now that I witnessed, live, a non-win by this team in the most redskinish way possible, I guess I'm a true fan? Anyway, that was awesome. -This team is looking great. We have the weapons to win this division, we still may. 546 total yards is really good, on the road, against a not so bad D, hats off. -IMO Josh Norman actually had a good game. He made an incredible play on AJ Green on a long ball (the one where he seemed to have reinjuried his wrist), he should have had a pick, he often was right in AJ's face on some catches... If you consider he was concussed LAST WEEK, his wrist is weakened, and refs were after him I'd say he had the best game he could have. -Defense did a really good job, first half was outstanding, held their offense well under 100yards. 2nd half was more difficult, cincy obviously made some efficient adjustments, but our D delivered on crucial moments.
Glad you got to see a worthwhile game...Sorry the ref's were so frieking biased. I have a feeling that tie (non-loss) is gonna end up in our favor somehow. We still have half a season to play, but you get to savor the memories forever! Hail! |

Seriously. Let's bring in more guys to get in his head, while the reason he's missing kicks isn't because he's not talented, it's because he's in a mental funk. |
Re: The after London semi-meltdown thread.
Hopkins did not lose this game...for petes sake..he made the FG at end of regulation to save us a loss! The 4th down go for it early in game in field goal range was costly.. the kickoff return that led to there td was costly. there was a lot of reasons we did not win..

Re: The after London semi-meltdown thread.
Watching the game again, I think we didn't emphasize how good the O-line played! Pass protection was really great, although Cincy was blitzing a lot. Good job on the running game, 3.2 yards/attempt with only 31 attempts isn't bad, is it?

We have the second highest yards gained on offense. We have the 15th most average points scored per game. Atlanta is first in both categories. |

Certainly some. Fat Rob left some yards on the field, but that's his first NFL start and he is a rookie. I thought for both instances, he did a damn fine job. I thought he showed a better instincts, ran better between the tackles and was more decisive. |
Re: The after London semi-meltdown thread.
Cooley said that the NFL did not have all the review cameras for the London game that they do for regular games in the States. He also said they didnt have a camera angle to review if Jordan Reed got a 1st down with 29 seconds left in the first half. The Refs ruled Reed down at the Cincy 38 yard line, 1 yard short of the 1st down. They then called for a booth review with 13 seconds left. I assume at this point they looked and couldnt find a camera angle so the call stood.
If they did have all the cameras, they would have had a camera angle to review and we would have had 1st down with 13 seconds to go at the Cincy 37 yard line with 2 timeouts left. Enough time to pick up 5 yards and make the FG attempt a 50 yarder vs a 55 yarder. (Assuming Reed did get the 1st down after review, idk). -------------- Also, re time outs. I am a firm believer that in the 2nd half you save those as best as possible for a potential last min drive to tie or win. But in the first half, why isnt Gruden calling them to save us from a delay of game? I know we had at least 1 delay of game called in the 1st half and we went into the locker room at half time with 2 unused time outs. That slip on 4th and 1 was killer though ... I wish we had AlfMo for that kinda of play alone. I dont trust Jones or Fat Rob to take contact and fall forward 2 yards for the 1st. |

boom Meanwhile, Kelley’s first start resulted in a 21-carry, 87-yard game in the 27-27 tie. He wasn’t perfect, but he consistently ran tough. On some carries, he bounced off defenders leaving his teammates on the sidelines shouting and punching air. Those on the field appreciated it as well. Physical He wasn’t flashy – his longest carry was 16 yards, but 12 runs resulted in gains of at least four yards. Kelley had no negative carries. cant dance when you Fat Rob. He kept running forward,” Redskins tackle Trent Williams said. “He’ll give you second, third, fourth, fifth efforts. He keeps the pile moving. I’m certainly impressed by that. As a lineman, as soon as I feel the pile, I let my guy go and help clear it off, and you’d notice he’s still going. That shows a lot of toughness out of him, that he continues to pound the rock like that.” Chalk up Silverblunt as a fan. Id say keep with Kelly, see if you can light that fire under Jones. |

Reminded me a LOT of Morris. Even when nothing was there, he still got 1-2 yards just by falling forward.
