Re: Redskins 2018 Off Season Re/Signings
This is why I think the Redskins might work out a deal with Denver to acquire Talib while given Denver Cravens. Now, yes, that doesn't seem like a likely trade, but it's been reported that Talib might be a cap causality due to the team wanting to make room to compete for Kirk Cousins. So, being able to trade Talib and get all of his contract off the books might mean a lot more to the Broncos. It seems too much of a coincidence that the Broncos would be in talks with the 'skins for Cravens, and then report on possibly trading Talib.
If we keep Breeland , we don't need Talib. Dunbar has also proven to be a good CB. |
Cravens is too slow to be a safety and not big enough for a LB, I just don't see him getting much attention. Plus the Off the field stuff can't help our cause. I'd say a 4th at best but hell if we can get a 3 or 2 that's on the Broncos
In what world is he too slow to be a Safety? Too small for a full time LB, absolutely, but he isn't too slow to be a safety, especially one that is a in the box SS |

Did u see my man in his rookie yr? He was toast Maybe that is because he was more lost than slow but he had some bad plays out there. He may be like a Deone Bucannon type player, he started at S but moved to hybrid LB. |

Cravens, Apple, Talib? Are you guys putting together an All Head Case/Locker Room Cancer Team? "Hell no!" to all of them!
Now, Tyrann Mathews is another story. He might be a bit, shall we say, unusual but he is a player with great instincts who makes big plays and creates turnovers. I'd sign him in an instant. |

Well, I'm not! I don't want those shit birds on my team. I see no reason to take Denver's trash in a Cravens deal. We should just take a draft pick for Cravens and chuckle to ourselves all the way home. |

As I was saying, I'm in different with those two, meaning, I don't care either way as long as they don't command a huge contract. BUT, I would offer more to Mathews, of course. |

You can just tell that the while team feeds off of his energy and he looks like so much fun to play with. Mathieu, Norman, and Swearinger all have the right mix of swag, talent, smarts and preparation, and heart. This secondary would have a complete identity and it would be an excellent environment for the young guys to develop in. There is no defensive FA thus year that I want more. Also, he's so versatile that he will help with depth all around the secondary. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk |

Still you're right, if multiple teams are interested the Skins have the ability to play them off one another. I think it increases the chances that we don't have to settle for the NFL equivalent of a ham sandwich (conditional 7th rounder). We might be able to get a 4th or 5th out of this, that'd be nice.
Yeah a 2nd sure seems out of reach ! It's clear he likes Moreau, and while we're on the subject of the secondary, it's clear he LOVES Montae Nicholson. He compared him to the Jordan Reed on the defensive side of the ball, noting that his range gives every other player in the secondary greater comfort knowing he's back there. Eye opening comment about the value of Montae to our defense and how good Gruden thinks he'll be going forward. I agree - when Montae was healthy our secondary was at its best. |

“We need a left Guard” “Montae Nicholson is really good” “We can be aggressive in free agency”
You mean Nicholson is the Jordan Reed of the Defense. Lol, people have been saying that about the injury concern, but he certainly meant it about his overall impact. He said earlier about Reed that he expects him to be healthy and that a lot of the game plan revolves around him. So, that's a big compliment to Nicholson. I do hope he stays healthy, but even if he's injured at times if he contributes to a Jordan Reed level over his career here, that's a huge upgrade from the trash safety play we've had to endure for several years. If Sua comes back now and plays to his talent level, we may not miss Fuller too badly, especially if we pick up another young talented project and keep developing young talent in this unit. I think JC Jackson would be a good prospect for them. He apparently has fist round talent, he was arrested kicked off of Florida and then prospered at Maryland and would likely continue to prosper and mature if he stays in the area with a support system away from home. If he stays under the radar, this is the type of pick they've made four a few years in the secondary and it has been working out pretty well. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk |

Solid tackler too. When healthy I really like our secondary. If we keep Bree, I'd still draft a CB cause it seems you can never have too much. Start Fabian and Josh outside, resign Bree and play him in the slot. Until Montae can stay healthy a full season, we'll need another FS. Should pick one up in the draft.
Fabian, Norman, Breeland, Montae, Swearinger would be a solid group. |

Re: Redskins 2018 Off Season Re/Signings
You guys are starting to get on my crabby old guy nerves about picking up developmental players in the draft. What have we got, 6 picks?
We NEED: 1. A Left Guard. 2. A run-stopping DL. 3. A capable starting RB. 4. A WR who is a deep threat. 5. A pass rusher to complement Ryan Kerrigan. 6. A TE who can and will block. 7. Another starting ILB. 8. A slot corner. 9. A PR/KR. 10. Probably something else I forgot. Even counting any FA signings, how are we going to come up with what we absolutely must have, plus additional developmental players? We are a lot farther away from a complete team than people around here think. We've got a lot to do in FA and the draft and I don't think we can get it all done this year no matter how smart we play it. |

We've got a lot to do in FA and the draft and I don't think we can get it all done this year no matter how smart we play it.
I think some of these needs become less of an urgency if the team is healthy: 1. A Left Guard: Yes we do need an upgrade at LG, I hope we sign/draft one. But healthy, our OL is capable, it's not like Lauvao is Catalina... Long can also play guard if Roulier steps it up at center. I agree it's a need. But it's not a gaping roster hole. 2. A run-stopping DL: We could use an upgrade, I do hope we draft one DT in the first 2/3 rounds. But remember when Allen and Ioannidis were healthy? Our defense looked way better. 3. A capable starting RB: no arguing this one. I said over and over sign Crowell, or Lewis. 4. A WR who is a deep threat: no arguing this on either. This is a MUST. I'd say FA (or trade... Bryant for Cravens and a 4th?). 5. A pass rusher to complement Ryan Kerrigan: if we can bring Galette back at a fair price, and the inside pressure is there, I can live with Kerrigan on one side and Galette rotating Smith opposite. 6. A TE who can and will block: we sure could use one. But Sprinkle may very well develop into that guy. 7. Another starting ILB: assuming we bring Zach Brown back, I'm not sure I agree. Brown and Foster are legit starters. Zach Vigil played really well when he stepped in, I think what he did for us is under-appreciated because he came in when we pretty much had lost any hope in our season. And Spaight is a capable back up. 8. A slot corner: I do hope we draft one. But as said above, Norman, Breeland, Moreau and Dunbar is not a group of CBs that we should feel uncomfortable with. 9. A PR/KR: OK... I admit I forgot about this issue... 10. Probably something else I forgot: Maybe... Some will say fire every one from the HC to the water boy if we want to stand a chance at anything... But I don't see anything else. |
