[quote=httr198020;1207426]I wouldn't say that getting gashed for 500 yards is exactly shutting a team down. We did force some turnovers which was great. But still the Bucs was in the redzone 5 times. Offense went up against the worse defense in the nfl and still couldn't score over 20 points. There is nothing at all impressive about this team. I don't care what any of you say. There are many experts that don't take this team seriously, however I think our D is the best it's been in many, many years and are young. The O hasn't really clicked yet, injuries to the RB's, OL, WR don't help. I've been critical of Alex Smith but will give him a chance this year, if he plays like this next year then I'll be ripping him like you and Punch. My beef has been the inconsistency, hopefully with experience and determination can be resolved. |

The ultimate goal of a defense is to not allow points. Giving up just 3 points is impressive no matter how it happens. I'd guarantee you Houston is not taking this game lightly. |

They may not take us seriously, but we are 4th in the conference, 6-2 in the conference with wins against Carolina(#5), and Packers(#8). In division we have a 2 game lead, 2-0 in the division and the Eagles have games against the Rams and Saints, Dallas still has to play the Saints. I think Dallas has the best chance of winning the division IF we don't. Their game against Atlanta is huge for their season. If they lose that they put themselves in a deep hole. Likewise, we could have a huge weekend if we win, and they lose. |

Re: Homecoming / Houston Thread
I know I sound like a broken record, but the Texans (like the Falcons, Saints, and Colts) can put a lot of points on the board.
Who’s ready to see Smith lose another shootout? Moses publicly said it. The offense needs to start carrying their weight and putting points on the board. The team cannot continue to rely on the defense. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Ok, here’s a simple question for the Smith supporters. Is he worth a third round draft pick, Fuller, and 5 years $111 Million?
Fuck no he isn’t!! I’m convinced now that some people miss the days of having a QB that could put up pretty numbers even if it meant losing 28-24 vs winning 16-3.
Smith’s contribution has been lack of turnovers and winning the field position battle. The +11 turnover ratio is one of the main reasons we’re 6-3 along with the D, AP, and special teams. |

Perhaps another QB like McCoy could have competed better in our L's. But I don't anyone could improve on the lack of offense mistakes to claw out 6 wins with an average offense roster. I still advicate playing Smith until we are 2 scores down until we have a 2 score lead, then put Smith back in. No loss situation |

He's not prolific, but he clearly can lead the offense. It also seems like he and Doctson/Harris are starting to develop a little rhythm. So yes I am fine with what the trade value was. Of course if they had given us Majones I would have been ok with that. Back to Smith, if he can get even a little more productive it will open the line for AP. As for the fact we are winning with AP and defense, thats the funniest complaint ever. Skins fans have been screaming for Gruden to focus on the run and improve the defense against the run. We do it, and have a qb who can win with that plan, and its not enough. |

You didn't need to extend him, give him a boat load of money and basically be married to him. Plus you gave away one of your better players who we really need right now. That was done partly to appease the fanbase for fucking up on Cousins. They couldn't sell Colt to the fans. |
Re: Homecoming / Houston Thread
I do not see any data that suggests Colt can do what AS is doing only conjecture. If you look at Colts lifetime stats he has thrown for 26 TDs vs 23 Int. His best year throwing was 2.2 int %. Alex Smith has not had an Int% above 2 since 2012.

Re: Homecoming / Houston Thread
Agree, that’s a very dubious claim. Smith’s turnover rate per snap and per game is miles ahead of Colt’s, whether you count Colt’s entire career or count only his Redskins career, either way.
You know how talking heads always love to say Alex Smith just wins games, and they seemingly throw up their hands as if there’s no explanation for it? The reason that happens is the low turnover rate. There’s no stat more correlated with wins/losses than turnover margin. Smith’s teams almost always are on the plus side. Now I do understand some consternation - if you’re down by 7 in the 4th and you need a TD I don’t like Smith’s chances and that limits us. But if you had played Colt that entire game then we’re more likely to be down by 14 in the 4th. Smith is not Brees who keeps turnovers low AND carves up defenses. But he’s also not Cousins, who carved up defenses but coughs the ball up. |

All that from Cousins last year led to 7 wins
We can match that total today |
Re: Homecoming / Houston Thread
I am very excited for today's game. I read somewhere that Houston's RZ offense and RZ defense are both bottom of the barrel in the NFL. If the Skins defense keeps the plays in front the Houston offense can be held. I think we have some opportunities for RZ touchdowns their super aggressive front will open up short gains.

For all his pretty stats Kirk was 26-30-1 as a starter here. He seemed to make his bonehead plays and bad throws at the worst possible time. He is 5-3-1 with a Minnesota team that is equal to or better talent wise than our Redskins. Three times this year he has thrown for over 350 yards and in those games he is 0-3. I will take 200 yards, no turnovers and a "W" over that anytime. |
