A judge told a 72-year-old man who has cancer that he 'should be ashamed' of himself after he said he was too weak to keep up with his lawn


Burhan Chowdhury, of Hamtramck, Michigan, told a judge he had been too weak to clean up his yard.

Judge Alexis G. Krot said he should be ashamed and that she would give him jail time if she could.

Chowdhury's son said he usually helps his dad with the yard but he was out of the country.

A Michigan judge berated a 72-year-old man on Monday after he told her he had failed to keep up with the maintenance of his yard because his cancer treatments made him very weak.

In a video of the exchange, Burhan Chowdhury, of Hamtramck, Michigan, can be heard struggling to breathe as he explained his situation to 31st District Judge Alexis G. Krot.

"You should be ashamed of yourself," Krot could be heard saying in the video. "If I could give you jail time on this, I would."

She then issued him a $100 fine, adding: "You've got to get that cleaned up. That is totally inappropriate."

The man's son, Shibbir Chowdhury, 33, who appeared with his father for the Zoom hearing, spoke up to clarify that his father was sick and that the property had already been cleaned up.

"Do you see that photo?" Krot asked. "That is shameful. Shameful. The neighbors should not have to look at that."

Yes, it was a joke and pretty much everyone knows his wife has a medical condition and it affects her hair so she shaves it. Smith was way off even though Rocks joke was in piss poor taste.

Growing up, I used to love Will Smith. But, there is just something off-puttng about him to me altogether now and that was absolutely ridiculous.

Not saying he shouldn't get roles or anything because of it, but he's not someone I'm going to support with my own money.

Yeah it wasn’t a great joke but they do have a relationship- have done two animated films together and honestly if Will Smith is gonna cheat on his wife and their solution is bang whoever you want - well wtf? Bang my wife but don’t make fun of her hair? Gtfoh.
He could have waited until his speech or an interview and made Chris Rock look like the asshole. He should have been arrested right than and there.

Wasn't / aren't a fan of him myself still not much of one. Never watched the Fresh Prince but did like him in the Golf movie with Jack Lemmon. I understand being pissed off about the joke but I'm surprised he wasn't escorted out as for never watching him again , who knows?

Did you see the commercial break footage where folks were hugging Smith? Just give me a break.

That type of joke was not out of line , they tease the audience its almost like a mini roast. Go back to previous Oscars its always been done.

The Oscar winners should be announced no need for a award show anymore where rich people pat rich people on the back for being rich. It may be more useless then the Pro Bowl.

I kept wondering where you guys were talking about the Will Smith incident, been out of town the last week almost.

So much about that shit is insane. And the privilege to sit back down, win an award and make some horseshit speech after all that? Being an A-lister is like having a privilege license to do whatever you want.

I saw Chris Rock holding back after the incident - he could've roasted Smith and/or Jada after the incident (bc maybe Will wouldn't be such a shithead if she could keep other guys dicks out of her mouth) but instead he took the high road. +1 respect.

I tend to side with comedians a lot of the time anyways - a lot of my favorite bits have a tendency to take situations that are universally unfunny and make a joke about them. Besides, there's no way of knowing if Rock even knew the reason for her hair loss. Shaving your head as a woman is still occasionally trendy today.

Normally I agree with you on most things but this isn't one of them. I ain't condoning doing 80 in heavy traffic in tight quarters, but if the road is wide open, visibility is clear and you aren't passing anybody get out of the left lane. Some state utilities even pay money to sign-makers to inform you of this.

With that being said it sounds like the snow storm came out of nowhere and the tragedy was unavoidable - I've been in situations on 95 where visibility dropped to almost nil out of nowhere and even with plenty of spacing between cars it's still very dangerous just to be moving when you can't see 10 feet in front of you. My condolences to those who died.
