Re: Who will be the next coach of the Redskins and does it even freakin matter?
This assumes TW doesn't show up all season. I would think he would show up so to get one year closer to free agency.
As far as the cap space goes, considering that one of - if not the biggest - reasons for the holdout is MONEY, TW would likely demand a new contract as part of any trade. And that new contract could lower the cap hit this year for Trents new team. This is all about Bruce's stubbornness.
I think it's very realistic he shows up at week 10 exactly for the reasons you mentioned. Sitting out the whole season does nothing to move forward his contract so he can leave, playing for 6 weeks on an noncompetitive team does. |

It wouldn't surprise me if he showed up week 10 but had some sort of "injury" which prevents him from playing. |

Trent wants a new contract and doesnt want to play 2020 on a final year without guaranteed $$ for future years. Extending Trent 3 more years at 14M or so per seemed like a reasonable resolution for both parties. I love Trent but with a compete rebuild, I would have preferred draft picks. |

I can understand that Jay is not happy about being fired by the people he worked for. But it seems he has an axe to grind with a lot of the people who worked for him.

If Jay has an axe to grind he sure isn't grinding it very hard. I find his comments to be pretty harmless.

Do you think most of the players and coaches on the Redskins would take that as a benign comment? He clearly is not happy for all of his former players and staff. It would have been very easy to say so. The fact that he deliberately chose to indicate he was only happy for a relatively small number of them is indicative of where his mind is. I'm under no delusions that we will be able to secure a better coach, but it damn well wont be hard to find a better leader. |

49ers coach Kyle Shanahan on the best part about coaching in Washington: “Working with my dad.”
Worst part: “Everything else.” Dan is such a piece of crap. I hope that retired investment banker keeps paying the fire Bruce Allen banner every week. |

New here but I would like to see Callaghan given a chance to stay on as HC at the end of the season. Providing of course that the boys play hard for him the remainder of the season!

Welcome! You'll like it here, hope you stick around. Agree, Callahan deserves a shot. But if Dan wants to trade assets to land Tomlin and give him full football control, I will approve of that because it means getting Bruce away from football decisions. That alone has to be worth a first rounder to me. Of course, he could just fire the guy, and that costs nothing... But here on planet Earth I like to think rationally. |
Re: Who will be the next coach of the Redskins and does it even freakin matter?
Interesting article by Ben Standig who surveyed players agents prior to the season.
https://theathletic.com/1293130/2019/10/17/nfl-agent-survey-part-2-what-do-they-think-of-the-redskins-front-office-draft-pundits/?source=dailyemail For those without a Athletic account this summarizes the main points just scroll past the useless fan poll drivel https://www.hogshaven.com/2019/10/17/20918992/fans-dont-have-faith-in-skins-but-player-agents-are-surprisingly-positive Main take away I got was agents have a decent amount of respect dealing with the Skins FO even BA. The person they don't like dealing with is Dan. |

The only thing it can be is draft picks which is the last thing the Skins should part with. |

Bill Callahan on Ereck Flowers "He’s come a long way in a short period of time. He could be one of the best guards in the league.”
FFS when are they going to learn to shut their mouthes ? All offseason "top 5 defense talent wise" "this defense is gonna win superbowlS", and now this ?! This culture of overpromising and under delivering is exhausting ! Flowers is having a surprisingly good season and had a solid game against the Dolphins, but one of the bests in the league? STFU ! 2 plays from Sunday... |
Re: Who will be the next coach of the Redskins and does it even freakin matter?
• I don’t have a lot of respect for the owner. Never have. Bruce Allen was an agent so many of us competed with him. I got along with him, but never really trusted him. Cut corners. He used to cheat to get players. He was a villain. As far as he knows I like him, but I don’t trust him. He thinks scandals aren’t’ scandals, but the cost of doing business. (Former front office leader) Vinny (Cerrato) was the same..
• Pros — Great talent at evaluation positions. Meaning (Director of college scouting) Kyle Smith, (Dir. of Pro Personnel) Alex Santos. Cons — the owner. • Not a huge fan, but also think they have their hands tied behind their backs a ton because of who’s running the show. • Redskins are dysfunctional. One guy will call on one player and then you talk with another guy in personnel and he has no idea of what’s going on. They fall in and out of love with players. A guy can go from penthouse to outhouse in one week. • Snyder and Bruce are incompetent. Schaffer is a wiz. This is from the Athletic who did an article with unanimous NFL Agents and GMs around the league. |

In all honesty he had a solid game, I could've picked several plays where he handled stunts really well, better than anybody at LG for us in a long time. But I really hate this overpromising culture, and let's not start acting like he's been pancaking people all over the field ! |

I really disagree on Flowers, he's easily been our best OL so far and much more than just a guy. And considering many (including myself) didn't think he would even make the team, he's been impressive. I'd look to get an extension done with him before the end of the year. |

You're reading way too much into it. He didn't say he was one of the best guards in the game - just that he COULD become that. COULD is not a promise - its a possibility. Flowers has played extremely well in his first few games as a guard after being a complete bust at Tackle. Giving Flowers some Public praise for his play and his potential is additional motivation for Flowers to grow. After all the hate his signing deservedly got from fans and the media, i'd say the praise is well earned. |
Re: Who will be the next coach of the Redskins and does it even freakin matter?
Shawn Lauvao was 'just a guy', Flowers has been much better than he ever was.

Cherry picking two bad plays is kind of silly. For the most part he has graded well. Look at PFF, they watch every play and grade it. Flowers has come out very well.

I definitely agree, as I said I could've picked plenty of other plays where he looked really good. The thing is I am not picking on him. I am picking on the fact this organisation still hasn't learned to shut its mouth. |

Praise is definitely deserved. I just wish this organisation would learn its lesson about over promising and under delivering. Saying "He's come a long way in a short period of time and has surprised a lot of people. He's a tremendous hard worker and I know he is gonna continue to improve." would have been a lot different to me. While I know "could" only expresses a possibility, I still think a 1-5 team that embarrassingly almost lost/barely beat the worst team in the league is not in a position to say who's a future pro bowler in its roster. I mean if I suddenly trained super hard and won a local boxing tournament, every body around me would be impressed, but if I went "Hey if I keep up this pace I could become world champion.", everybody would go "Hey hey easy man you're not there yet", and they would be right, even though I'd have used "could" and not "will", am I wrong ? |

Re: Who will be the next coach of the Redskins and does it even freakin matter?
Scherff is going to get paid too much. But I never really considered all of the cap space we can clear with some much needed cuts. We need to keep him (I flipped my position on this). For talent and culture purposes. Trade Trent, cut Moses, draft Andrew Thomas from GA then sign a cheaper veteran or later round pick at RT. The money saved on Moses can go right to BS.

Re: Who will be the next coach of the Redskins and does it even freakin matter?
If Danny Snyder does not fire and replace Bruce Allen OR make a public statement that neither he nor BA will be engaged in any Redskin personnel decisions in the future, then the decision on who will be the Redskin's HC makes no difference.
The last 20 years has proved that Dan Snyder and Bruce Allen (previously Vince Cerrato) are the worst owner/GM combination in the NFL. Whether the HC has Hall of Fame talent (Gibbs) or is a terrible HC (Zorn) or is somewhere in between, he can not overcome the handicap of Snyder / B. Allen making or being involved in personnel decisions. Snyder and Bruce Allen are just plain incompetent and too much of a negative drag on the organization or in keeping the Redskins from creating a winning franchise culture. Furthermore, any HC who comes here knows how Snyder / Allen continue to hurt the football team. The HC either is coming here JUST FOR THE MONEY or because they know that they WILL NEVER COACH ANYWHERE ELSE. Not exactly a striking endorsement is it? |
Re: Who will be the next coach of the Redskins and does it even freakin matter?
So I was listening to Kevin Sheehan talking about the buzz around the Redskins and Alex Smith coming back to play in 2020, after he's fully healed from his 17 surgeries! And as Kevin was joking about how crazy of an idea that is...I thought about it, wouldn't it be so like Bruce and Dan to think they can hire Eric Bieniemy away from the Chiefs as their next head coach, get Alex back next year who already knows his system and let Haskins sit and learn it next year behind Alex, and next think you know...we're as good as the Chiefs are!!! Because they're already sooo close!!!
