What does it mean when one side wants an investigator combing through records and the other side doesn't?
Williams brought up the medical issue, not the Redskins. Now that the Redskins have made it clear they would welcome a complete and independent investigation by the League and the union, he doesn't want that to happen. How stupid does he think we are? He leveled an accusation and refuses to allow it to be looked into. Sorry, but at every turn he gets more difficult to believe. |
Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
Trent made some pretty serious accusations against the team and for him to not want a full investigation now is just laughable. Trade this guy already.
An accrued season is a season during which a player has been on a team’s roster for six or more regular season games.

If the above is correct and he is on it the next two football games, I imagine that would prevent TW from accruing enough weeks to get the year to count. Both sides are going full hardball at this point, and the Skins have by far the stronger leverage. Trent's next move is to simply retire. |
Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
What a shit show -- all around. I am trying to think of another situation in which a popular, star player with so long a tenure with a team (playing through injury and otherwise showing leadership) had a beef with a team blow up like this. I just can't think of one.
Not absolving Trent of mishandling this, but man this sort of thing seems to happen to only one team. |

Plus after losing a full year of salary, TW might be willing to just get the heck out of here and play for another team without necessarily wanting a new contract immediately. And that'll also help in trade negotiations. |
Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
Apparently it could cost him $6 mil, but I'm not sure it has any impact on an accrued season since he reported...but I can't find anything on that. That would be big, if there's still two seasons left on his contract.

Man I wish he was traded. This will now be a daily thing all the way through possibly the start of the draft.

The Skins put him on the NFI list, ending his season and he doesn't get the accrued season since he won't be on the active roster for week 10. I'm sure he's gonna fight it but fuck him at this point. Just wish we had traded him already so we could have a spare pick and he'd be out of our hair. Instead we gotta talk about him until the new league year starts. |

Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
Obviously the relationship is broken beyond repair. TW has played his last game in a Redskins uniform.
Looking like BA is being patient and letting things fall. Once the season is over, and the draft order is set, BA needs to let all the teams know he is 'open for business'. I still think Redskins can get a first round pick for TW. And it will be a better pick than if he was traded mid-season. |

Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
Looks like we're going for the nuclear option. Bruce just doesn't get it. Trent is no angel in this entire situation, but this headline is the kind that grabs the attention of the 53 guys in the locker room (some of whom we might want to sign to long term contracts someday), and grabs the attention of every other potential free agent around the NFL.
When you act like a dick, people will treat you like one, Bruce. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/28036330/sources-redskins-choose-not-pay-trent-williams-51m-salary |

Keim has an interesting article, with more from TW. I found this paragraph interesting
https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/28036330/sources-redskins-choose-not-pay-trent-williams-51m-salary?platform=amp&__twitter_impression=true
After visiting an oncologist in Chicago recommended by Redskins owner Dan Snyder, Williams returned to his hometown of Houston for another doctors visit. They told him they couldn't get him in for seven to 10 days. When the Chicago oncologist heard this, Williams said he was told there was no guarantee the cancer wouldn't spread. So he returned to Chicago for the surgery. All along he rode on Snyder's plane. After the surgery, though, Williams said he spent $200,000 on travel costs. Williams said he requested a trade or to be released in a two-hour spring conversation in Houston with Redskins president Bruce Allen. The Redskins did not aggressively shop Williams, though they did have discussions with several teams during the season, hoping to land a playmaker. Multiple sources said some teams backed off when they learned the lineman wanted more money, whether in the form of guarantees in his final two years -- he currently has none -- or in an extension.
All this continues to BA/FO being the problem due to arrogance, but still shows Snyder doing positive things for the individual player. TW looks bad too in my opinion, but the bottom line is still BA needs to be gone, preferably the whole front office. Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk |

Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
It doesn’t matter whether this medical issue was mishandled or f-up by TW. TW said before the training camp Started that he WOULD NOT PLAY AGAIN FOR THE REDSKINS AND WANTED A TRADE. This is a fairly common occurrence now in the NFL. OTHER teams either work it out with the star player OR MORE LIKELY TRADE the premium player for the best deal. Simple. The team looks proactive, the player moves to a new team and EVERYONE IS HAPPY!
What does Bruce Allen do? Ignores all calls about a trade. Doesn’t even see what they are offering!! Plays chicken with the best player on the team. States, “He’ll play here this season”. Holds him hostage for the season. “My way or we won’t trade you”. ALL THE TEAMS THAT WERE CALLING (for a trade) EVENTUALLY FILLED THAT HOLE. BA waited until the next to last day before he talked about a trade. Nothing. So BA bold prediction about TW playing this season was wrong. He looked stupid for saying it. His game of chicken failed. He punished Trent in front of the whole NFL and both sideS LOST OUT. Instead of getting rid of deadwood players like Miami did, in order to stockpile draft picks, BA did nothing, proving either he is happy with a single-win season OR he has NO PLAN. It doesn’t matter WHY TW wanted leave. He made it extremely clear he wanted to be gone. We could have received a First Rounder OR BETTER with an easy trade. Problem solved! But BA once again decided to do it his way!! He looks bad (again). The team looks as if it likes to punish its best player, a team captain and possibly a future HOFer.! What does that tell the other players on the team? Or players who might want to play here? The value of TW is going to be down after the season is over. We have a stop gap 36 year old player in his spot. Scherff is not negotiating anymore. Moses is going to set a record for penalties for an OT. That’s 3 holes in the. OL. Good job Bruce! I, actually, kind of like the way it was handled. I'm not a fan of a player holding a team hostage with the "pay me or I'm not playing" adage. I talked a ton of shit about zeke when he did it and I will continue to talk shit about any player that signs a contract and then later decides they dont like the terms they agreed to before. I like that the fo showed that you cant make your own rules. Who knows how much this is about health and how much is about money. Try to hold the team hostage, fuck it. Enjoy 0 pay. I wish more teams would employ this type of tact when the player starts saying they deserve more. Then maybe you shouldn't have signed a contract. And since it's worked for a few players, more and more are going to try. It would be a total nightmare with the players who have a few years left on their contracts f the skins bowed down and did whatever tw wanted. Everyone would be threatening to not play or want a trade or more money. Fuck exactly all of that. I'm not a fan of snyder/allen...but I'm glad they set a precedent like this.

Bruce is incompetent and can't win games so he tries to win situations, which is not what it's about. Sure, there's a feeling of not caving and sticking with "principle", but this is ultimately a situation where it probably cost them. The team could have had a first round pick early on in the situation. Another downside is how much respect and admiration Trent has from his fellow players. While he was ripping BA and the FO a new one in the locker room, in his now infamous interview, his fellow players were yelling "preach" in the back ground. This feeling reinforces the league wide sentiment about how crappy this FO is to deal with. Third, how much of a benefit is Trent going to be to the team if he stays? I would guess, not that much. Cooley has repeatedly talked about how Gibbs would help players who didn't like their role or the team leave on good terms. I suspect Gibbs knew a team needs committed players who buy into the the organization and philosophy. These jokers are going "bleed" those who disagree to force compliance. DJ Swearinger is the perfect example. He didn't like the scheme, the club Jay practices, or anything else, but the team kept him in the building despite his vocal, public opposition. A Gibbs led team wouldn't have kept him, and there wouldn't have been a public falling out. This whole organization is a joke. |

Trent is a respected player around the league and him going to like 8 pro bowls in a row means hes had a lot of time to hang out and get to know the other premier players in the league. Between this, the handling of the Kirk Cousins situation, Bruce not communicating with agents and teams, Bruce being unprepared, Bruce being voted the least trustworthy in the league ... Gibbs = communication. I really think the players and agents have no idea what is going. Like when D Jax and Garcon were going to be FA, they said their agents havent heard a thing from Bruce. I would guess Scherff's agent is also getting zero communication from Bruce just like Trent's and Cousins's etc Scot Mc talking with players I didnt think was a bad thing. Players and agents need someone who will at the very least communicate with them. Pick up the phone. Do the bare minimum. Bruce doesnt do shit and thinks letting things play out is the way the league is run in 2019. You have a HOF anchor LT of your team for the past 8 seasons and he is 31 and on the back end of his contract with no guaranteed money if he gets hurt ... of course he wants an extension or making 2020 guaranteed. Its 2019 NFL .. thats how the game is played. Show players you have their back. If you cant do right by Trent Williams .. ... what player has given more for this shit show the past 8 seasons? |
Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
Bruce Allen showed he was tough and stuck to their guns. So what?
1. He did it at the cost of losing a first-round draft pick OR MORE for the 2020 draft. Two first round draft picks -picking two elite players could transform this team. 2. BA alienated the best players the redskins had -forever. Who are people and the media going to listen to or believe: a 7-time pro bowlers, team captain and a well respected team leader OR the most despised GM in the league? 3. What does BA mis-handling of BOTH Cousins & Williams - home grown talent that got let go in the worst possible way from the players standpoint. Bruce Allen won a very minor tactical victory over a revered and highly talented player and leader in this team. He has lost far more on the Strategic level for the Redskins. No replacement draft pick, continued perception of chaos and pettiness in the franchise, illogical decision-making and finally, Redskins players knowing that the team may stab them in the back and hurt their career if they ask for a trade. It takes a lot to become the most hated man in D.C. but BA has done it and seems to revile in it. He needs to go before this team can move forward. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I agree that both Bruce Allen and Vinny Cerrato (first half of Snyder’s ownership) are Daniel Snyder toadies. However, the continued free-fall of this franchise may, just may force Snyder to jettison Bruce Allen and agree to hiring a real, NFL veteran and NFL-capable GM and/or a HC. No competitive HC from OUTSIDE the franchise is going to sign up here under the current Dan Snyder / Bruce Allen black cloud. It is impossible to win with their oversight and meddling. I mean two of the best HCs of ALL TIME (Gibbs and Shanahan) came here and had weak runs under Snyder & his lackey’s idiotic oversight. If Snyder brings in a competitive HC from the NFL, then he most likely has agreed to greatly reduce his meddling. If he hires from INSIDE the franchise, such a O’Connell, and BA is still here, then it’s just more of the same. We’ll become like the Brown’s: great draft pick position every year, terrible record. Bruce Allen is like the Black Plague of this franchise. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
