Re: WFT 2020 Training Camp
11.6M is an expensive luxury but with us not being contenders, strange covid season ahead and plenty of cap space ... its a luxury we can afford.
Personally .. I do want to see him play in meaningful playoff games. Thats what most of these players spend their whole lives dreaming about .. then you get drafted by the Skins or Bengals or Browns or Dolphins or Jags and you end up being a Joe Thomas. ----------------------- I am starving for some real Training camp news, little clips etc .. |
In a part time role RK could be really effective getting after the passer. And you can never have enough of those guys.
True, but just don’t want it at the expense of another player. I don’t really mind the money this year, but I would balk at an extension. I would not be onboard with that unless it’s a 1 year 6,7 million deal which would reflect that role. |

Re: WFT 2020 Training Camp
Listened to the Sheehan and Ron interview
Sheehan asked him who has stood out so far who may be under the radar with Skins coming together and working... Kevin Pierre-Louis OLB Troy Apke S Saahdiq Charles LT WR...Cam Sims and Steven Sims Montez Sweat Also said this is the competition for left tackle: Charles, Geron Christian and Cornelius Lucas. |
Re: WFT 2020 Training Camp
I didn't realize Cam Sims is still with us, I thought we released him last year after a key drop.
Surprised to see Apke's name although, I can see him becoming an important special team player for us eventually. |

Re: WFT 2020 Training Camp
Doesn't Cam Sims do this every year? He kills it in practice but is no where to be found once the season starts. He has the perfect opportunity to take the #2 job..

Yes he does. If he doesn’t seize the opportunity this time around, it’s hard to see him doing that. WR2 is open; I’d imagine S Sims grabs the slot. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Well he was basically a rookie last year (in 2018 suffered a season ending ankle injury in the first game of the season). |

Re: WFT 2020 Training Camp
Padded practices today with media. Should be a good day for twitter info
edit -- looks like JP Finaly is giving good minute updates JP Finlay @JPFinlayNBCS · 3m Kyle Allen gets second team reps in 11v11. Alex Smith not cleared for team drills yet JP Finlay @JPFinlayNBCS · 4m First tight end I’ve noticed in 11v11 is Logan Thomas. JP Finlay @JPFinlayNBCS · 4m 11v11 starting now. Haskins at QB. FIrst down connection with Steve Sims. 2nd pass sailed to McLaurin and Darby breaks it up. JP Finlay @JPFinlayNBCS · 10m Something I noticed - Reuben Foster wearing a big brace on his knee. Doesn’t look like Bryce Love is wearing anything on the knee. JP Finlay @JPFinlayNBCS · 45m Watching Alex Smith - he’s zipping the ball. Footwork seems normal. JP Finlay @JPFinlayNBCS · 26m Steve sims having a good showing in 7v7. Connecting w Haskins a few times. Those two worked out together this summer and Sims said on the pod how strong he felt in the pairing JP Finlay @JPFinlayNBCS · 58m Quick observation - DB coach Chris Harris has a lot of energy. Going thru stretches and drills with the DBs. https://twitter.com/JPFinlayNBCS?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor -------------- Alex Smith participating in 7v7 but not 11v11 videos and more on his twitter feed |
Re: WFT 2020 Training Camp
Heard some speculation in the media that Logan Thomas could be our guy at TE and really step up.
We'll see. TE is a crapshoot. Too bad there's no preseason, I'd like to see what Moss can do. He may not even make the team because we'll definitely keep 3 other TEs in Sprinkle, Thomas and Rodgers. Hale Hentges is even in the mix for another spot. |
Re: WFT 2020 Training Camp
JP Finlay
@JPFinlayNBCS · 7m Ron Rivera said he wants his team to play fast and he was disappointed at times with the tempo. Saw some good things too but he wants his guys aware of the situation and players to know their assignments. JP Finlay @JPFinlayNBCS · 14m Dwayne Haskins staying after practice and getting more work in JP Finlay @JPFinlayNBCS · 16m Practice is ending and Ron Rivera is dressing down his team for standing around confused during portions of drills. Delivered a loud “get in your book and study” JP Finlay @JPFinlayNBCS · 43m This much is obvious - D line depth is much better than O line depth JP Finlay @JPFinlayNBCS · 30m More hitting today than I expected. JP Finlay @JPFinlayNBCS · 47m Troy Apke has gotten a ton of work with first team defense paired with Landon Collins. |
Re: WFT 2020 Training Camp
I imagine Ron Rivera yelling at you to "get in your book and study!" sounds and is received a little bit different than Jay.

Interesting to hear about Apke. Know he's athletic for sure. Love hearing the reports about Haskins. Kid wants it and that is great to hear. |

I know there is only a really small sample of Thomas's playing time as TE but his highlights shows how athletic he is and he isn't afraid of physical contacts. This along with the new TE coach who coached Olsen, hopefully this will translate well on the field. |
Re: WFT 2020 Training Camp
"In the first practice open to the media, one improvement jumped out under new coach Ron Rivera: There was more crispness and urgency during practice than in years past. Players hustled between drills; that wasn’t always the case in previous years. Safety Landon Collins said there was more intensity than last year. Also, at the end, coach Ron Rivera told the players a list of areas he wanted to see improved, including attention to detail. Then he told the rookies: Get more in the playbook."

Re: WFT 2020 Training Camp
I like hearing that Rivera is pushing the players to change the lazy, slow pace, no sense of urgency attitude that existed under Gruden.

Yeah, listened to this episode of Finlay's podcast and among other interesting things I loved how Steven Sims JR repeatedly said how coach Rivera was a "there's a time for fun and there's a time for football" coach, that he wanted things done his way, and that you had do to what coach Rivera said... You can feel in his voice it's less funny and way more strict than under Jay. |

Right on the money. Many players (coming from other NFL teams) were shocked at the slow pace of practices under Gruden. In addition, Gruden was Uber-soft. Players were not challenged in his practices. In my opinion, that’s why the team always started off the season slow and they could not get up for the big games. Teams like the Patriots finished practice by running hills. In the fighter pilot world, “You practice as you fight”. Football [emoji458] is the same, which is why I’m happy that Rivera has emphasized a fast tempo in practice, and yelled at the players who were just standing around. Killing the Gruden, lazy ass practice tempo will take a little time but players will appreciate it later when they start winning games. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Re: WFT 2020 Training Camp
Sprinkles other problem is he counts more ($2.2m) on the cap than the others and it is the last year of his rookie deal. He has had three years to show something, I would prefer my 3rd TE to have some upside and be cheap like Moss or Hentges (sp?). I don't think there is enough talent there to warrant keeping a fourth TE, if we need a replacement during the season those on the FA market are going to be just as good I think. So if he is not the starter of principle backup/blocking TE I don't think you can justify keeping him at that salary.

The problem with pessimists like you is that you are usually right (lol). I guess that makes you a realist, now that I think about. Although I tend to think like you during the regular season, right now I prefer to be overly optimistic about the players and root for them to succeed. I love it when young men like Terry McLaurin and Matty Ice establish themselves as quality NFL players. I'd like to know which developing young players and 2020 draftees you think could emerge as significant contributors to the team. |

When he needs to step in because an injury, you'll be glad we have depth that talented. That's been a big problem for this team for years, great Week 1 lineup on paper, but no depth and we're decimated by injuries. Every year it's the same story, "we would have had a great year if (these guys) had not been hurt! This year's defense is loaded with depth, no reason to trade it away just because we have too many bodies at a position. We'll need him. |

Re: WFT 2020 Training Camp
JP Finlay
@JPFinlayNBCS · 24m Last two 11v11 drills have included a pick. One for Haskins one for Allen. There have also been some dropped INTs. JP Finlay @JPFinlayNBCS · 32m The WFT offense looks bad today. Haskins. Allen. Pretty much everybody. JP Finlay @JPFinlayNBCS · 59m Poor period continues for Haskins - had a ball batted down and then gets knocked down on next snap. Offensive line depth is a problem JP Finlay @JPFinlayNBCS · 1h Ok back to 11v11 with Haskins at QB - not looking great. Sweat just got around the corner and stripped him. Keep in mind neither starting tackle on the field. JP Finlay @JPFinlayNBCS · 1h I’ve been able to process everything I’ve seen so far with Alex Smith but seeing him evade actual rush was just wild to me. I’m kinda shocked. He looked fluid. Footwork was fine. Of course he wasn’t gonna get hit but anything could have happened with guys falling at his feet. JP Finlay @JPFinlayNBCS · 1h 3 snaps for Alex Smith against a real pass rush. No tackles or D-ends but Smith had to move in the pocket with DT pressure. That was wild to see honestly. Smith went 2 of 3 with two nice completions and one kinda ugly miss. JP Finlay @JPFinlayNBCS · 1h Alex Smith taking reps with defensive linemen on the field. This is new. Not 11v11 but 9v9. JP Finlay @JPFinlayNBCS · 1h Nice TD connection from Haskins to McLaurin in red zone work. Motion away from Sims created a tight opening and Haskins fired it in JP Finlay @JPFinlayNBCS · 1h 1st team Tackles for first 11v11 drills LT - Cornelius Lucas RT- Timon Parris (Christian and Moses are resting. No sign of Charles.) |
Re: WFT 2020 Training Camp
O line ... will it compromise anything we try and do on offense like it has for the past 2 years? With injuries and playing TE as o line ... its been a real rough 2 years.
|
Re: WFT 2020 Training Camp
Must admit to being a little disappointed that Saddiq Charles hasn't yet made an appearance with no mention of any injury, he dropped in the draft due to off field issues and has the LSU connection which has to be a littke concerning
|
Re: WFT 2020 Training Camp
Given the nature of this offseason I think it's going to be tough for any of the rookies to break through and start right off the bat.
|
Re: WFT 2020 Training Camp
Im on the "its way to early to tell but I just dont think Saahdiq Charles will amount to anything" train. Seems like another wasted mid round pick like Geron Christian.
Chances of getting a starting caliber LT after round 2 = very low. Take a G or C at that point, much higher success rate. |
Re: WFT 2020 Training Camp
Lol only a few days into the training camp, we are already labeling rookies a bust?
