When Obama first ran for president I was struck by his positive energy, his intelligence, they way he spoke about hope and change. I never voted before Obama. I remember he did a speech in Baltimore and downtown was shut down. The crowds were huge. I remember we were literally running for a with few hundred other people to be the last to get into this section to see his speech and they literally had to close the gates right in front of us. We watched on TVs they set it in the inner harbor. I felt like a teenage girl running to see the Beatles for the first time. The energy and feeing was amazing. Hugging strangers. To see the faces of old black women and men seeing a black man being elected as president was so amazing. I felt like I was experiencing America back when JFK was elected.

Trump seems to be that for 60 million plus of my fellow Americans. Why can’t they have their Obama? Why aren’t they allowed to feel the energy of a president like I did with Obama?

I just can’t get past the fact that one man worked his way through life with nothing. Another was born to a rich millionaire. One man made it to the Ivy League on his brains and intelligence. The other was a paid for admission. One man was married to one woman, the other had multiple wives, had sex with a porn star while his wife was just gave birth and is currently in a contractual marriage to a woman who hates Christmas.

^ but these are the same elitist thoughts that partly gave birth to trump. Trump is a product of social media and hate. He is literally a reality tv show star.

To go from Obama to Donald Trump is so sad to me. But I can’t discount a vote for trump. We are all allowed a vote and a say. It is what it is. I can’t say I know better or I’m smarter than them. Even though college educated greatly lean left and non college greatly lean right.

But I imagine what you want to hear is “no alll trumps aren’t confederate flag waving rednecks and he got voters from all spectrums”
This was easily disproven from the first election data and I imagine even more so this time from what I’ve seen of the Hispanic and black men numbers.

I think Biden still has a strong path, I’m still thinking he wins. But when I see Democrats LOSING Congressional seats in BLUE STATES in a Presidential year with massive record turnout and an historically unpopular Republican incumbent in office...there is a serious problem in the dem party.

Holding the senate is most important imo

I want to state this again, Trump should not be in this...how is he is maybe bigger than 2016. It makes zero sense.

Re: Election Day Thread - Nov. 3, 2020

I hope Biden wins presidency and with republicans keeping the senate = good ole political grid lock which I think would be best. A 4 year cooling period

I thought the data from 2916 showed Trump getting over 80% of the white non college vote ... but that’s me being dismissive of a large section of American men and women. My dad was a construction worker who painted lines in the middle of roads before he died when I was young. He was a redneck. Would probably be a huge trump supporter. We lived in a moveable home. If he never died I would probably be a trump supporter. But he did and my mom remarried a lawyer and I was gifted a educated liberal life so here I am. Instead of a construction worker redneck I’m a lawyer with a biracial daughter.

I’m tired work is gonna suck today

Harvard researched.

Evidence of that power and how irresponsibly it is used is found in a recent Harvard-Harris poll for April 2020. A majority of Americans, 53 percent, believe the Christopher Steele dossier “was real in its findings of Trump colluding with the Russians.” Only 47 percent of Americans chose the factually correct option that it was Clinton-funded campaign oppo fueled by disinformation.

The Steele dossier, and its central and elaborate theory that Trump was a secret agent of the Russian government who had betrayed his country to steal the 2016 election, has been completely discredited by multiple government investigations. The limitless special counsel probe, ostensibly led by Robert Mueller, could find no evidence that Trump had colluded with Russia. In fact, the Mueller team could find no evidence that any American had colluded with Russia to steal the 2016 election.

Biden at 238
Trump at 213

If Biden wins Nevada (6), Wisconsin (10), Michigan (16) that puts him at exactly 270.

Trump wins Pennsylvania (20), n Carolina (15), Georgia (16), Alaska (3) gets him to 267.

I’ve been up since 4:30, can someone check my math?

CNN just confirmed this math.

This seems to be the likely outcome as long as Biden holds Nevada. I’m giving Biden Wisconsin and Michigan.

After Pres Obama's first State of the Union I came on here praising him because I wanted to believe. But his words were fairly hollow, though very smooth.

I voted libertarian in 2012.

What I "want to hear" is an acknowledgement from both sides that the debate is not about the person but the discussions should be how do these two Americas find common ground when the views and ideas are so distinctly opposite.

The views and ideas are not new by any standard. One size fits all federal ruled government vs the rights of individuals and states is as old as our constitution. Individual responsibility vs shared obligations isn't a Trump thing or Obama thing, it is a view of life thing. USA independence or world interdependence has been around since the Monroe doctrine was formed and before that when George Washington warned of the dangers of becoming entangled in foreign disputes.

Both sides in the US have some valid positions, but someone (i don't know who or how) needs to span the central truths that 70% of Americans believe and create policies for those 65-70%, leaving the loud vocal minorities on BOTH sides out of the discussion.

I "want that" at least here on the Warpath we all can set aside the pettiness that the leaders of both parties (Trump, McConnell, Pelosi, and Schumer are all petty in there own way) and discuss how to forge a workable common future path for the university educated and those educated by life, for those who live in downtown Baltimore and those who work on a farm in Kansas.

More people voted for Trump this time then last time. He will still lose the popular vote.
I believe alot of people who voted for trump were cursing the political system for making me vote for such a rotten person not because i like him, but because my ideas of how government should work are far more closely aligned with his policies than Biden's big government solutions.

Well said Cred. I agree. Everytime a key moment arises where one party refuses to work with the other it widens the divide a little deeper. If we could all compromise and work together we could have an America where everybody could succeed, but I don't believe that's possible without the 1% increasing their burden.

MSN/AP has Trump ahead by 700k in PA, I'm really not sure if it's possible to come back from that much.

Edit: MSN/AP has 75% counted in PA, with 5.3 mil counted so far, which means roughly 1.3 mil left to count. So yeah Biden could flip PA but it would have to mean a heavy majority of ballots left would have to favor him.

@Nate_Cohn is a good follow on Twitter right now

It's really quite simple. Biden's winning absentee ballots 78-21. The PA SOS says there are 1.4 million ballots left to count. If that's true, then Biden will net-800k votes, more than enough to over take the president

Based on my replies, I don't think people have fully internalized how Democratic these mail and absentee ballots will be in MI/PA/WI. It's going to be close, but these ballots will be overwhelmingly Democratic

Biden has taken the lead in Michigan, according to the AP
Along with AZ, NV and WI, he now leads in states worth 270 electoral votes--the number needed to win

Logically I shouldn't have a reason to be concerned, but I do worry that Trump's efforts to invalidate the remaining ballots that haven't been counted will actually work and this will go to a SCOTUS that will rule in his favor.

North Carolina Republican Congressman-elect Madison Cawthorn told "Fox & Friends" he looks forward to building a "bolder" GOP when he arrives in Washington, D.C., as the youngest member of Congress since the 1700s after winning the seat left vacant by Mark Meadows.

The 25-year-old conservative candidate -- who first catapulted to GOP stardom after speaking at the Republican National Convention in August, getting up from his wheelchair at one point on stage -- defeated incumbent U.S. Rep. Moe Davis, D-N.C., to capture the 11th Congressional District seat, according to The Associated Press, which first called the election results.

Cawthorn, who nearly died in a tragic automobile accident that left him partially paralyzed and in a wheelchair, wants to lead on health care and heal the partisan divide during his time in office.

After Cawthorn's victory, he tweeted, "Cry more, lib," before taking a swipe at progressive Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., and other far-left Democrats.

interesting attempt at healing the partisan divide.

the House is weird. Some random unqualified person like AOC or this guy can get elected in a highly partisan district (no real accomplishment) .. then immediately get national talking time to spew their hyper partisan rhetoric that then gets treated as if these no names speak for an entire party.

frustrating.

Implying Trump hasn't committed any white collar crime in the last 40 years?

Also, you know, the beauty of charging someone with a crime means you have to use the burden of evidence to prove it. So if Trump is not guilty of anything, it will be because NY state doesn't have any evidence to back up its' accusations. So he has nothing to worry about if he hasn't committed any crimes!

is there something I dont know about Nevada? Seems like people are giving it to Biden but its 588k Biden to 580k Trump .. with only 67% reporting.

Biden needs nevada, wisconsin and michigan .. otherwise he lost. Im not holding out hope for PA and assuming trump wins that.

Guessing here, but usually they drill down to counties and maybe the counties still left uncounted are mainly democratic counties. Again i am guessing.

As long as the Senate stays republican (likely) and biden governs for all Americans - meaning finding compromises with house and senate(unlikely), this outcome could be a good step for getting past obama/trump era divisions.

I am hopeful that the 70% will find a path forward respectful of all americans. Why, politics can be a pendulum. The energy of obama pushed it far left, trump was an equal and opposite reaction by the hard right, but the mass of the political middle should dampen those swings, finding a new equilibrium.

I hope

strongly disagree Obama pushed it far left, i do think republicans reactions were acting as if he pushed things far left

strongly disagree to any attempt at making an apples to apples comparison of obama to trump

I agree with you on a lot but your thoughts on obama i do not agree with at all

comparing obama to trump is not trying to bridge the partisan divide but more like trying to normalize trumps language and behavior

I can't stay out of these threads. I hate myself lol.

You can be educated and smart. But you can be educated and a dumb fuck too. I don't think degrees = intelligence. I have a Master's degree and I'm still a big fucking caveman lol.

This election isn't about education or intelligence of voters. I don't think anyone here is dumb. There is just a fundamental difference in what we think the roles of government are. I'll never be able to wrap my head around why anyone would want big government and big taxes. Probably the same way people think I'm insane that I basically want as close to zero taxes and zero government as possible.

In regards to Obama, if you're a Democrat, you're way less likely to think Obama moved us far to the left, than if you're not democrat. All about perspective here.
