Re: Taylor Effing Heinicke
Watson is a no brainer, the guy will be great for 10 more years..
|
Re: Taylor Effing Heinicke
I think potential QBs will look at us as a real attractive destination this year. A top-flight defense led by a young defensive line and some cap space to work with? Good QBs will look at this as a spot they can drop in and make a difference, sort of similar to the way Brady viewed Tampa last year.
I think Watson would find us an attractive option, the question is will Houston deal him. I'm not sure they're willing. |

I just feel that we don't have enough ammo for a trade for Watson. Would we trade this year's first and third, and next year's first? They are not going to get a QB in the draft with our first round pick.
Looks like Houston will be interviewing Bieniemy after all, which is what Watson wanted. I really don't think Houston is serious about hiring him. |

What QB wouldn't want to come where we're adding weapons and have a burgeoning defense? |
Re: Taylor Effing Heinicke
Perhaps targeting Kenny Golladay first would be a smart move.
|
Re: Taylor Effing Heinicke
Pound for pound I'd take either (both!) but I'd personally take Robinson 1st. He's already great, but put him with a top QB and I think he'd shine.

Re: Taylor Effing Heinicke
Watch the Tampa highlights, how the fuck is that not your qb? Bye.

According to ESPN: “A source close to Watson told ESPN's Chris Mortensen that firing Easterby would not resolve the issue, saying that "Cal McNair would have to fire Cal McNair." @danorlovsky7 “I’ve asked around a lot with folks very attached to the @HoustonTexans situation. It’s worse than we even think it is on the outside. And that says a lot.” I think Watson is going somewhere. 👇🏻 |
Re: Taylor Effing Heinicke
Taylor had better success against Tampa than Brees did today .. dang he looks bad
|
Re: Taylor Effing Heinicke
Father time has caught him up, though I wonder how much of his struggles last few weeks are a result of the rib injury. Very surprised if he doesn't call it a day now.
|
Re: Taylor Effing Heinicke
Great career and if he hangs it up he'll be missed in the league
|
Re: Taylor Effing Heinicke
Did you see him look back at the field as he ran off it. It was soooo “one last look”. People can change their minds but his body language after that game said he was done.
|
Re: Taylor Effing Heinicke
Brees was also blowing kisses to fans...seemed like the end.
It's sad he's going out with such a bad game. I think he's still hampered by the 11 broken ribs, he probably could rehab and come back for one more, but I'm not sure his last game would be any better. He got that one Super Bowl and that will be it. I'm glad he got one, I've always been a big fan of him as a person. With the loaded teams and powerful offenses he had, it's amazing he only won one. Still one of the greatest ever. |
Re: Taylor Effing Heinicke
Then there's this. Body language while talking to Brady suggest he was at least talking about a long hard think after the season. Nice to see them together though like buddies, 2 of the best to ever play the position.

Re: Taylor Effing Heinicke
Good for him. Now he needs to be ready to play as soon as we bench Fitzpatrick or he gets injured if it comes to that.
I know Heinicke is a journeyman and the TB game was only one game but I'm really curious to see how well he plays after a full offseason with the team. I watched the TB game a couple of times and it seems like Heinicke had several good anticipation throws although he had a few lucky throws/runs so I'm not 100% sure if it's just a fluke. |
Re: Taylor Effing Heinicke
Hurt already, some guys just have a knack for this
@JPFinlay Rivera says Heinicke caught an elbow during an offensive install, had to get stitches. "He looks like a boxer right now" |
Re: Taylor Effing Heinicke
That's not hurt.
|
Re: Taylor Effing Heinicke
He's missing snaps, so whatever we call it injured or hurt he's missing time because of it. Sounds like it's just precautionary of course.

"He looks like a boxer right now"
Oh come'on, catching an elbow in the face and having stitches is somewhat being injury prone now ? I get it with things like shoulder or hamstring injuries... or even recurring concussions... But this is just physics, any elbow wins against any cheek... |

But with some guys, even if it's thru no fault of their own, it's always something. I think this was the point. This is not a very common thing you hear about. But yet, it's completely unsurprising it happened to Heinicke. |

He was Cam Newton's backup, when Cam could actually play, so he wasn't coming in to take that job anyways. This is his first REAL opportunity for playing time. |

Exactly my point, some guys just seem to always be dinged up somehow. Not saying this latest incident means anything in the long run, but fair or not if he can't manage to stay on the field for whatever reason, he won't be around for long. |

And his window of “availability “ is extremely small. He maybe injury prone. He may not be. Simply not enough of a sample size yet to make that call. And if Fitz balls out and stays healthy himself we might not know even this year whether or not he is. I read that he really hit the weight room in the off-season so who knows? |
Re: Taylor Effing Heinicke
Yeah, let's hope Fitz balls out, because Heinicke has started three NFL games and was injured in all of them. Add to that his two other (known) injuries that either occurred off the field or in OTAs, and yeah I would consider him injury prone.
|
Re: Taylor Effing Heinicke
To be honest, I think our back up QBs are really solid. I feel Fitz will be fine and could thrive in the offense, but if something happens I feel pretty confident with two high level back ups. Hoping Allen bounces back from serious injury and Heineken can stay healthy and grow even more with reps in camp.
I like our QB situation and it’s nice to have to worry about developing a QB or worrying if Alex has another year in him…I’m feeling kinda good. |

Just saying a bumpy eye in OTA is not something that should be worrying us yet. |

I am confident Heinicke could come into a game and win it. Allen too, maybe slightly less confident but only because Taylor plays pretty fearlessly and takes chances...more like Fitzpatrick's style. |

I think the only two games he started were against the Bucs and with Carolina against the Falcons. Of course, against the Bucs, he did not miss an offensive series and continued to play at a high level. Against the Falcons, he injured his left elbow when sacked on a play that drew a flag for roughing the passer. They put a brace on it and he returned to the game. I really don't think those two starts justify labeling him as not durable or injury prone. But, hey, just my opinion. |

Two starts, three games - whatever it is. It's not my label, it is just what it is. The dude has consistently found a way to get himself injured. Lucky for him, his last injury with WFT did not result in him being removed from the competition. Maybe his luck is changing...time will tell - if he is given an opportunity. |
Re: Taylor Effing Heinicke
Heard a presser where RR was talking QBs. Mentioned Ryan and Taylor .. never mentioned Kyle. Grant and Danny spent some time trying to read btw the lines. RR says there is an open comp but only Ryan is getting 1st team reps.
Seems there is a clear QB structure, which I like: Starter Ryan QB2 Taylor QB3 Kyle |

Re: Taylor Effing Heinicke
It turns out that Heinicke has a chance to win the QB1 spot even when Fitzpatrick returns from the injury. The big reason is how the team rallies around him, which is really amazing when we know he was a back-up QB.
This is going to be a great story if Heinicke is the QB1 permanently. |
