Re: Fitzmagic Thread
Fitz is clearly the best option out there at the moment and the best stop gap quarterback we could get. Over the last two years he has actually been pretty damn good. It is a one year deal and we wasted no picks and did not break the bank. It might not be a splashy move but it was smart and puts us in contention in the nfc east for another year while we try and get a long term solution at quarterback. All the arm chair GM’s need to stop complaining about his age as if we signed him to a long term deal and realize he was the best option when you consider we are in year two of a three year rebuild.
He is better than kyle fuckin allen and there is no long term answer free agent out there. We tried for Stafford. We didn’t get him. So we get Fitz on a one year deal. He is better than anyone on our roster by a mile. If we can go 7-9 with a bust, a statue, and Kyle fuckin Allen than Fitz can win at least nine. Couple that with the draft , players coming back from injury, and year two in the same offensive and defensive schemes and things should be better. We can worry about 2022 down the road.
So how do you feel about Kyle Allen? Asking for a friend. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Better to by a jersey like his where you know he's only here short term and he can't possibly leave on bad terms. His beard game is amazing. |
Re: Fitzmagic Thread
Honestly if you buy one it's worth it.. He's going to be fun to watch regardless

Re: Fitzmagic Thread
Yeah, Fitz is already a legend, good jersey to buy as opposed to a Haskins or other unproven rookie that you'll regret buying in a year.
Glad I held off on the RG3 jersey, but I still wear the RG3 t-shirt I bought around the house. :D |
Re: Fitzmagic Thread
I wonder if the #1 QB position will be a true competition or will it be gifted to the higher paid QB?
I ask because Taylor Heinicke was playing pretty efficiently in Turner's system. If Heinicke is playing heads and shoulders better than Fitz, does TH get a legit shot to start game 1? |
Re: Fitzmagic Thread
I don't think Fitz would have came here without assurances the starting job would be his to lose.
Ron may talk about a "competition" at least to start off with, but that will be nothing more than coach speak. |

Clear backup $$ to me is in the ballpark of $2-4M a year, basically what Heinicke is getting. $10M a year puts them both tied for 19th highest paid in the league for QB's. Not superstar money for sure but not backup either. |

According to Spotrac, Taysom Hill is the only non-starting QB (maybe) that is to make more than Fitz in 2021. He is a bridge QB, but he's the starter. |

Good listen here from Fitz |
Re: Fitzmagic Thread
Fitz had the 2nd fastest average time to release in the NFL next year, the avg time between the snap and his release of the ball was 2.37 seconds, 2nd best of all passers with 50 or more dropbacks.
Not a bad fit for an offense that wants to do its damage via YAC. He also had a 92.7 grade from PFF on throws 20 yards downfield or more. He's not a starter because he's paid like one, he's a starter because he's much better than people realize, and better than Heinicke. |

Good draft and a couple more depth to solid FA signings and we have a legit chance at double digit wins. C'mon April 29th!! |

He is a bridge QB, but he's the starter.
When you take QB's still on rookie contracts out of that list you see he drops down to 2nd or 3rd lowest "starter" with only Cam Newton a clear starter below him. In addition, Marcus Mariotta is right below him and a clear backup at 8.8M, Nick Foles and Andy Dalton are both on the bears at 8 to 10 M one will be a starter, neither is the "clear" starter The rest of the starters that are paid less than him are on rookie contracts, and I am positive if they came up for renewal they would be paid more than 20M if they have shown they are unquestioned starters: QBs at 10M or less this year that are guaranteed starters (R = Rookie contract): Baker Mayfield (R) (his backup Case Keenum is paid 6M) Kyler Murray (R) Josh Allen(R) Daniel Jones(R) Joe Burrow(R) Tua Tag (R) Justin Herbert(R) Lamar Jackson(R) Jalen Hurts (R) Gardner Minshew(R) Sam Darnold(R) Denver QB (R) none are more than 2.5M don't know what they are doing Cam Newton (5M) - maybe the only non-Rookie starter under 10M and that is because Brady left BB unhinged. If either the rookie we draft or TH show they can be a multi-year starter, then Fitz will be a well paid backup. If they don't then he is an extremely cheap bridge qb. Either way - I am excited about both Fitz and TH so between them and whatever rookie they sign I think we have the groundwork laid to finally get a successful QB in Washington |
Re: Fitzmagic Thread
Ultimately, Fitz will either be one of the lowest paid non-rookie starters, or one of the highest paid veteran backups.
And for the WFT, he brings good options to the hardest position for this team to fill. |

True, a lot of those guys are on rookie contracts, but I wasn't separating who was on their first, second, third, etc. contract; just where his 2021 salary ranks among the projected 2021 starters. The overwhelming majority of backups in the league make less than half what he is making. Mariota took a pay cut to 3.5 Mil. Either way, Fitz didn't come here to be a backup, and barring an injury he will be the starter. He has stated that he has no desire to watch football anymore, and if he isn't playing it's time to hang it up. |

That most likely will be Fitz. |

Totally agree. It was a fun story last year but the Heinicke hype is just that, hype. Otherwise Ron wouldn't have tried trading for Stafford and inquired about several other guys. There's not going to be a legitimate QB competition, nor should there be. |

Re: Fitzmagic Thread
There absolutely should be a competition. Yes Heinecke was a one off, but Fitz is on a 1 year deal and is 38. They should bring in a late round rookie, and let them compete mainly so we know what we have in 2022.
Also, of course you go for Stafford over Heinicke that is a no brainer. But Fitz isnt Stafford, he is on his 9th team for a reason. If he wins the starting job that is fine and in 2022 we are back to the whole qb drawing board. I think some of this discussion assumes I or others are arguing for Heinicke. I am not. I am saying the goal of the coaching staff should be to find a long term solution at the qb, and you do that through competition. Until we have a qb we can seriously count on for 3-4 years minimum there should be competition every year. Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk |
Re: Fitzmagic Thread
A true QB competition is between 2 guys. If we're talking about a competition between 3 or 4 guys, that's just not how it works in the NFL. There simply aren't enough snaps to go around in order to properly evaluate everyone. Jay Gruden was on Ben Standig's podcast recently and said the same thing.

Re: Fitzmagic Thread
Don't worry man. I'm confident that there will be a competition at every position, and the best player at each position will be the starter. At QB, that will be Fitz. If he balls out, and they don't find their QB of the future in the next 18 months, look for him to come back and do it again.

It may or may not be hype. It needs to play itself out in competition. That is the only way we'll know about TH. Just based off of what we saw he at least deserves as shot to compete for the job. I wouldn't just hand the job to Fitz. Someone needs to earn it. |

I'm already locked in for at least 4 games of multiple INT's. Hopefully he doesn't blow his load in like the 1st 6 weeks. McLaurin going for 1400+ this year. Going official superstar status. |
Re: Fitzmagic Thread
Well WFT had five games with multiple INTs last year, so I'm not too worried about it.
Anyway, I think the difference will be that he won't be charged with having to do it all with the weapons at his disposal, and this defense. |
Re: Fitzmagic Thread
Yeah wait until he has a couple 3 int games. The spaz outs will be epic around here.
+1 He's always good for a couple every year. I'm just hoping his ratio of good games to bad games is 3/1. If he does that we can contend for the division title (still don't think we can keep up with the TB's of the world though). Real talk though, when Fitz was drafted in 2005 did anybody think 16 years later he'd be starting for the WFT? Hell of a story for him. |
Re: Fitzmagic Thread
Yeah wait until he has a couple 3 int games. The spaz outs will be epic around here.
Hopefully he can keep those games to a minimum here, but it will probably happen. I think that this team, specifically the defense, is built to overcome it though when it does happen. WFT QBs had five games with at least two INTs, and three games with 3 INTs last year. You will be hard pressed to find a NFL starter who doesn't do that from time to time. |

There will also be games where he's on fire and we drop 21 points by half and our defense just puts the other teams QB's dick in the dirt. We will be exciting. With exciting play comes some eggs. I'll take it this year. |
