Re: The annual NFL coaching carousel
Riggo's Rag article suggests Johnson's non-interview with Washington was down to the fact he was insisting he would keep Sam as #1 QB. AP was going to draft JD so decided it wouldn't work before the interview and turned the plane around. Good job too!
Wonder if Johnson has learned a lesson from that? In other news Saleh and Frazier interviewing with Dallas. I'd be surprised if Saleh goes there, I see him more of a fit for Jax (possibly Raiders). I'd expect Frazier to get the job unless he fluffs the interview. |
I’d bet on Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn to jump before Whitt and KK
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Vegas may interested in Ben Johnson and the Girls may be interested in Witten. Witten or Moore make sense in Dallas honestly as long as they're subservient enough to Jerry is going to be his biggest requirement. He'll find some poor soul soon. |
Re: The annual NFL coaching carousel
Saleh and Frazer were Rooney rule requirements.
My bet is Moore is the coach and Whitten is on the staff, to be the future head coach. |
Re: The annual NFL coaching carousel
If we win on Sunday, history will be made. From 4-13 to 15-5 and appearing in the Superbowl. Even more history if we go 16-5 and win the Superbowl. Also, with a rookie QB.
Can you imagine the raised expectations from other owners on their head coaches and gms? If the Commanders can go from having the 2nd pick in the draft; to getting to or winning a Superbowl than why can’t my team? Gms will be expected to draft & sign in free agency, the players to do it. Coaches will be expected to coach those players to the Superbowl in one year. |
Re: The annual NFL coaching carousel
Let's temper that enthusiasm just a little. We're in almost the same position as the Lions last year. Now 2 years in a row they 'should' have gone to the big one. Not saying they took us for granted, Campbell's not an idiot. But we don't want to get ahead of ourselves then find we're perennial bridesmaids. Let's see if AP can build sustained success then ride that train like the chiefs have been. Andy Reid's mentality always seems to be let's get there first, and he's not wrong.

I’d love to know whether Campbell told Johnson to run the damn ball. If he didn’t, I might have to disagree with the idiot comment. Such bad playcalling. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I was thinking more to their approach to the game than teh in game decisions, but good point. Whether he did or didn't he SHOULD have. So, yeah, maybe he is an idiot?

He struck me as designing good plays but calling bad ones and too much trick bs. |

Hard for me to see Johnson as a team leader while continuing to burnish his reputation as the Einstein of modern NFL offense. There’s a simple mindedness that coaches need as leaders (“let’s run through this brick wall together”) that I just don’t see in Johnson. He loves the cerebral complexity of it all too much. Re: The annual NFL coaching carousel
Some guys are built to be HC's, some guys are built to be coordinators and some guys are built to be out of the NFL (EB & RR).

Re: The annual NFL coaching carousel
Probably see a couple of openings filled this week; especially with the Lions coordinators free to interview now.

I can see Glenn going to the Raiders or maybe Saints. I can see Johnson crashing and burning.

I am guessing it has to do with Caleb being on rookie contract still vs having to draft a qb with the other teams minus cowboys and saints. I don’t know enough but heard the qb class is weak. |

Sent from my SM-S711U using Tapatalk
That happens a lot. After all, we’ve done that twice. Norv- the Boys OC in 1994 to us DQ- the Boys DC in 2024 to us Next year, we can see one of our coordinators go to Giants, if they have an opening. |
Re: The annual NFL coaching carousel
Jets hiring Aaron Glenn.
Pats- Hire Former Titans coach, Mike Vrabel Bears- Hire Lions OC Ben Johnson. Jets- Hire Lions DC Aaron Glenn Raiders- Jags- Cowboys- Saints- Titans hired Chiefs Assistant GM Mike Borgonzi as their new GM. Raiders hired Bucs assistant GM John Spytek as their new GM. He also was a teammate of Brady’s , during their Michigan days. |
Re: The annual NFL coaching carousel
Good choice for Jets, especially if Jets hire our assistant GM Lance Newmark. Of course there biggest decision is what to do at QB. They need move on Rodgers and all the players, Rodgers made them sign
|
Re: The annual NFL coaching carousel
I think Johnson had the Bears in his sights all along because of them having the #1, last year. There was no Bears opening, so he went thru the routine of other jobs; seeing if they really interested him. Then he went back to Lions. I think he wanted to coach Caleb all along.

Re: The annual NFL coaching carousel
Jags owner Shad Khan finally did something right by firing their gm Trent Baalke. Keeping Trent was hurting him this cycle and the last one.

Not sure what they do at qb but imagine Glenn will want to start fresh and rebuild. Rodgers hasn't worked out there and isn't getting any younger.

They're still weighed down by bad ownership, as we know it's almost impossible to overcome |

Almost? In 24 years we never did. I think it is impossible. Jets and Browns are doomed. Cowboys increasingly appear to be as well (he said gleefully). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I don't know if Allen's transgressions are severe enough as Snyder's to force a sale though. Sounds like they are stuck currently. Glenn I feel is a good hire at this point for them though.

IMO in the NFL it's circular, all teams go through it . Sadly bad times(droughts) seem to go on longer then the good. You guys turned the corner after a while so has Detroit, Minnesota. Dallas is still in it as are the Giants. IMO San Fran , NE ,Miami Seattle Jets are all IMO on the downward trend. |

It seems Jerry is finalizing things with his new puppet; OC Brian Shottenheimer.

Even if they sign Lance Newmark he'll still be taking orders from Woody Johnson's 15 year old son. I wish Peters/Quinn would talk to Newmark about waiting for a good opportunity to come along, not the first one. |

Re: The annual NFL coaching carousel
Liam Coen the Bucs OC is negotiating to be Jags head coach. He dropped out and agreed to an extension with Bucs but after Jags fired their gm, they called him again.
Bucs can’t reach him. He’ll probably be named coach tomorrow. Well, Jags did something right. |

I'd also be concerned if I was the new GM, that they employed the coach before me. OK if they get someone Coen has a synergy with it can work out, but how many times have we seen this scenario work? |

Khan gotta be a dumbass, how many times did credible candidates turn down the job before he realized Baalke is universally disliked. Also Coen is looking grimy in this ordeal for doing the Bucs dirty like that. I get why he did it but just be honest about it. Nobody would like it but they'd still respect you for being honest. |
Re: The annual NFL coaching carousel
The reason Jags couldn’t reach Coen was he was at the hospital for his son but he did tell Bucs when they finally talked, he taking to Jags.

Pete Carroll to the Raiders, didn’t see that one coming
