Re: Ramsey wants to be traded
Brunell had the majority of a year in this offense, how shaky did he look? we went 6-10 and both our WRs BEGGED to leave. i'm sure that extra year towards middle age and an alleged healed hamstring really helped out his ARM. wait..WHAT??
Laverneues Coles 6 for 66yds. No TDS. 3 Dropped passes. Rod Gardner No receptions. Darnerian McCants- Will be inactive like last season. Santana Moss 4 for 96yds. More yds than the three of these clowns. Good Riddance. Ramsey threw an INT in two out of the four preseason games and his first start as the QB, was the same shit. Let him go to Dallas they need a QB that Tuna can develop into nothing. |
Re: Ramsey wants to be traded
I think the first series against the Bears confirmed what Gibbs was suspecting during the entire preseason. Just Ramsey isn't his guy.

I'm standing with Brunell. Against Dallas, I'm standing with Brunell. |
Re: Ramsey wants to be traded
you learned all that from the first 3 drives of the season huh? everyone just forgets last season, so did you base that on this pre-season? remember, Brunell had a great pre-season last year too.
Well, it goes into the preseason as well where Ramsey also didn't protect the ball. Brunell didn't really have a great preseason last year - he just stunk a little less than Ramsey. I don't know guys, I can see the other side of the argument but I just think Brunell is the right choice for this team right now because he is going to minimize mistakes and let our defense and Portis win games for us. |

Re: Ramsey wants to be traded
Someone mentioned somewhere on one of these threads, and I think it's a good point, that the Redskins did what they had to do to beat the Bears. They didn't need to explode offensively or show various wrinkles. No need to show too much before Dallas. Just get the win and go home.

Re: Ramsey wants to be traded
I have an enormous amount of respect for Gibbs, but, knowing that Ramsey's neck is fine, I disagree in a big way with his decision to start Brunell. Brunell threw for 70 yards in nearly three quarters of play. Granted, he didn't throw a pick, but he didn't exactly prove himself to be a different quarterback than he showed himself to be in 2004. Is anyone impressed with Brunell's play of 2004. Also, I'm sorry but I don't buy into "he had a bum ankle last year" argument. Brunell flat out stunk, wounded ankle or not.
Hmm...70 yards does pretty much suck. Then again, I don't think it is completely his fault. I think they called a very conservative game in the second half. |

I also recall that you were one of the last people to call for Brunell's benching and defended him basically until the week he got yanked. Is that in any way playing into your assessment of Ramsey and Brunell? |
Re: Ramsey wants to be traded
Turnovers arent going to matter if we can't score points. With Brunell at the helm, he has yet to prove that we can score points. My beef with the situation has more to do with the overall scheme of the quarterback thats in, than the quarterback itself. Let me put it htis way, they both freaking suck right now. Bottom line. But Ramsey can at least get the ball downfeild and open up the game for Clinton Portis. I dont think that Brunell can. Right now, Clinton Portis is the only shot this team has of succeeding, in my opinion. I hope I'm wrong.
Going into Dallas - with the way their defense is pressuring the Quarterback - I just feel more comfortable with Brunell. He is more mobile and knows how to protect the ball far better than Ramsey. I think if Ramsey has time to stand back there, he can really make things happen; but in this day and age (and this is why they drafted Campbell) - with the way that defenses blitz, you just need someone who is going to be able to move around a bit. |

If we could win 10 games this year by playing the way we did against the Bears, I will be a very, very happy man. However, I don't think our offense will be able to play the way it did against the Bears week-in-week-out and expect to get 10 wins, or even 9, or even 8. |

I gotta agree here. Against that blitz, I just have a feeling Ramsey would be gang raped. |
Re: Ramsey wants to be traded
Gibbs will not trade Ramsey at this point in the season it would be a crazy risk. He was also speaking in terms of seeing how this immediate game goes and seeing who emerges throughout the season. Don't count Patrick out yet. He is upset right now and is thinking of making rash decisions, a good night sleep will probably cure. I know this situation will work out!!!!

I think before it is all said and done, the Bears defense is going to be ranked as a top 10 defense. That line is pretty sick and their LB corps are also pretty tough. |

There was also: 1. A more prominent role for Cooley 2. Gibbs more used to the new playclock 3. Offense more used to Gibbs' playbook Among other things. The QB always gets more credit and blame than he deserves |

Re: Ramsey wants to be traded
Since Ramsey could not handle the role as the leader of this team, Portis said in an interview, that he would resume the role as the leader and motivate this team. That's what the team needs right now as we embark on busting up this losing streak against those Bums in Irving,TX. I really have no sympathy for a young QB who has had more opportunities than most and just couldn't cut the mustard. I knew this from the beginning. But I remained optimistic.
|
Re: Ramsey wants to be traded
Brunell doesn't make big mistakes (which is a big plus for any quarterback), but he doesn't move the ball either. I could do the same thing by handing off the ball or taking a knee (and thus not throwing any picks) and not gaining any yards. I don't think any team can abandon the passing game and expect to win many games. I think we've essentially given up on the passing game by handing the ball to Brunell.

And Brunell "cut the mustard?" I think that the only thing Brunell cut was the cheese (yes I know that is corny). |

3 drives is more opportunities than most? that has to be a record for the opposite. and yet you have sympathy for an ancient QB who had all the opportunities in the world last year and couldn't cut it, strange. |
Re: Ramsey wants to be traded
I am gonna stand by whatever QB is playing. Let it be. Ramsey was not amazing, i want him to start but we all know that Ramsey wasn't as good as brunell during preseason. i can't believe that all that talk about ramsey starting was nothing more than 15 minutes. I think we took Gibbs' words way to serious last year when he said that ramsey was our guy. We can still win, we really can and to say the season is over is just silly, if we beat dallas and brunell does good we will all be praising gibbs as a god again. Please lets not lose our respect for him.
There is no doubt in my mind brunell is smarter than ramsey, only thing is i don't know if he can put the ball where his head tells him to. Remember last time brunell played dallas he picked up over 300 yards |
Re: Ramsey wants to be traded
Brunell is turning 36 this weekend. Isn't that the oldest starting quarterback in the league. Ahhh, once again our team is planning for the future.

I agree with part of this. Ramsey also started demanding a trade after they brought Brunell in, in the first place. If we drop about three or four though, I have a feeling it might be Campbell and not Ramsey, who we see put in there. |

True. I just want to win. Who ever can get the job done with minimal turnovers. I mentioned in the thread for the prediction to the Bears game that: Special teams was a critical area for our success and Antonio Brown's performance must be evaluated and seriously reconsidered. Wasn't it him, who fumbled last season against Dallas which kept them in the game? I'm telling you, we can not afford to have a punt returner returning a punt 5 yds in a game and fumbling. The QB position and the Special Teams play is critical if we want to have a winning season. |
Re: Ramsey wants to be traded
I think we're all just getting caught up in the moment...even Ramsey. I think we'll be thinking a bit better in the morning.

Luck? By the way our defense is playing, with minimal injuries, I would say Dallas will be lucky to score a TD against us if we don't turn the ball over. This is our year to finally break this slump of losing to a bum ass team. |

Re: Ramsey wants to be traded
Remember last time brunell played dallas he picked up over 300 yards
Yes. Then, over the next five games he averaged 129 yards, a QB rating of 55.82, .8 touchdowns, and completed 45% of his passes per game. |

Gibbs is not going to play see-saw like Spurrier did. He's going to start working towards the future which is intelligent for the amount of picks he gave up. |

If he doesn't want to play see-saw, why did he bench Ramsey after 1 quarter? If he's working towards the future, then why is he starting a 36 year old quarterback next Monday? |

You must admit, this is not the same Brunell from 2004. This guy was not sacked against a blitzing defense that knocked a younger guy out of the game. No INTs. No fumbles. And Portis had over 100yds. I mean this is the way its going to be in some games. |

Maybe because Ramsey threw an INT and one and a half fumbles on his first possession. That will about do it. No seasoned Coach would put his future prospect in against a rival that has beaten his team like that. Is Ramsey more concerned about starting or about winning? Because these temper tandrems don't help his case when he goes to another team in the near future |
Re: Ramsey wants to be traded

On his first possession? I didn't think it was possible to turn the ball over 2 1/2 times in a single possession. In any event, I see a see-saw. |

I cannot admit it. What has made you think that it is anyone other than the Brunell from 2004 that is under center? His efficient, but relatively unproductive preseason performances? |

Until Brunell puts together a string of 3 games where he can move the ball down the feild, I'm going to remain very skeptical. If he plays great on Monday night, thats awsome! But he played great on Monday night last year. I wont be convinced until he consistently moves our offense. 70 yards in 3 quarters yesterday isnt exactly making me do flips. |

The velocity on his ball has been better than Ramsey's since preseason. How many times did Ramsey underthrow Santana Moss and every other WR in preseason? Give me something tangible that would indicate why Ramsey should be a starting QB anywhere in the NFL. More INT than TDs will not get it done. |
Re: Ramsey wants to be traded
quoting myself here
even if Brunell lights up Dallas, those first 3 drives of the season was *not* enough to tell me Ramsey couldn't have either. if i've learned anything, its that pre-season dictates very little, and developing a rhythm only happens in game situations with all your weapons and all the time. this is a surprising loss of his cool, and amounts to Gibbs hitting the panic button.
and why did Brunell deserve 10 games worth of mistakes, but Ramsey less than a quarter? |
