What I was reading earlier, they could take to roster bonus, make it guaranteed money and stretch it over the length of the contract. Making the amount a little smaller per year. We are eventually going to come to this problem with all the big names we have on our team. Portis, will have the same problems in the next couple of years. Springs signed a big deal for a guy 30 years old. Was spings worth a 10 million signing bonus? Is any of these guys "worth" all the money they get paid. He loves the fans and basically was going to let the 6.5 million dispute go away, but the Players union wouldn't let it. LaVar is the man!! And can I say, that I'm starting to believe that it is total bullshit when athletes say that I'm this or that for life. Bull....they are only "Redskins or anything else for life", based on the most current contract that they have. You can only say someone is a Redskin for life if they start and finish as a Redskin. Look at the 80's rosters, those guys are Skins for life. Joe Gibbs is a Redskin for life!!! Unlike his NFC counterpart Bill Parcells - who himself is a contract and media whore!! |

Great post. I also hope the probs with Lavar can be worked out and get him on the field! I would like to know what the real deal is? Wait and see |

Do these "face of the franchise" players understand that this is where a huge contract gets them?

Re: Lavar on 980 @ 4pm
I forgot to add 56: I agree we have a some overachievers on our defense. Thanks to Gregg Williams and his staff. But I will disagree that most are average players. It could be argued that many NFL teams, forget about the NFC, many NFL teams would love to have: C.Griffin, Sean Taylor, Shawn Springs, Marcus Washington, Carlos Rogers down the road, hell I'll even throw in Joe Salave'a. No he's no super star, but he plays great within the system, and I would say could compliment most DTs very well in the league right now. That's more than half of the defense.
In my opinion, every team has about half dozen or so players on either side of the ball that are products of good coaching and the "system", if you will. Jeremiah Trotter is a very good example of someone who is a Pro Bowler with the right team. So while you say that we have average players, in that case who doesn't??
your right, alot of teams do have average players. Sean Taylor, Marcus Washingt, Griffin, Springs, are not average. Taylor, washington, griffin, and springs all should have gone to the probowl last year. What I am saying is Greg Williams, a great coach, has a pretty big ego. And I have a feeling that with all the LaVar issues in the offseason, he is saying I can make a great D without LaVar. i would hope this isn't the case. But I have heard that Williams does have to turn sideways to get his head through the doors at Redskins Park! |
Re: All Arrington All The Time (Mega Merge Club Mix)
Williams is the man and I think he is just waiting for the right game to unleash Lavar. Lavar is talking alot about how he will do what the coaches want of him and if what we have seen is all we are going to see of Lavar he would not be this patient. I would think as he gets more time in pratice he will be worked into more schemes and he will see more playing time. Money is not a factor its about what the coaches feel is best for the team just like the Brunell situation and we see how thats turned out.

Honestly, I think it's little bit of money coming into play here, a little bit of LaVar getting into the schemes, and I'm willing to bet that teams have already inquired about LaVar's services. |

I think Pittsburg will be one the ones willing to give up a draft pick to two. And I was reading San Diego would also be interested. But who wouldn't be. Getting a guy of his ability(if healthy) in his prime. And especially with all this crap going on, coming back with not just a chip on his shoulder, but a big ass pine tree on his shoulder. I do believe he will end up in Pittsburg. He is a homer and thats where he is from. If its not washington, then pittsburg is where he will be. |
I agree with you but if it did I would be very dispointed in our coaching staff.
If anything, I believe Danny wants LaVar on the field. You have to remember, Danny was a diehard Redskin fan before he struck it rich and bought them. If this was anyother coaching staff, he would have already demanded LaVar be on the field. In a way, I wish he would step in and say to play him. |
Re: All Arrington All The Time (Mega Merge Club Mix)
It's too easy to use the same 'Dan Snyder ruined the Redskins' excuse. If we have gained anything with the re-hire of Coach Gibbs it's that Dan has taken a back seat to Gibbs.
I'd guess at a Lavar Vs. Williams ego clash. Lavar has a problem playing outside of his instictive style, Williams needs him to to perform within the framework. When the circumstances dictate (i.e. we're looking to take a QB out of his rhythm, Mr. Plummer) Lavar will be let loose, lord help the poor bugger on the end of THAT storm. |
Re: All Arrington All The Time (Mega Merge Club Mix)
Snyder and Arrington are supposedly very tight, I'm not sure how the whole contract dispute thing may have hurt their relationship, but LaVar was a pallbearer at Snyder's father's funeral if that tells you anything.
|
Re: All Arrington All The Time (Mega Merge Club Mix)
Are you saying Danny does not want Lavar on the field and the coaches are going along and you think the same was true with brunell and Ramsey?
I don't think the same about brunnel or Ramsey at all. That was a coaching issue. Lavar on the other hand has blasted the team in the past in the media. Had a dirty dispute with the team over 6.5 million dollars. Lavar has a hefty contract and the less time he has on the field the more money the team saves. Because of that preseason game were Willams was able to use Arrington well, I think those whole thing about him not being able to "fit" into schemes is just smoke and mirrors. |
Re: All Arrington All The Time (Mega Merge Club Mix)
>>Snyder will make his life hell as a Redskin. Maybe what Coles said was true, cause it seems to me that he is carrying it out on Lavar.>>
>>So what are the facts??? IMHO, I believe the skins realized that they don't need $11+M tied to one player, when that player is replaceable by a system. Secondly, I think what makes arrington so attractive to alot of teams is also the reason why he is not attractive to Williams/Lindsay.>> Firstly (to the first quote) do we want this kind of Owner? I know, I know... it is a rhetorical question. We are Stuck with him. Secondly - Shouldn't we be thinking about the future? Won't it be about time for Williams to get another chance to be a head coach after this season? What if our next Def. Coordinator prizes LA's Style of play. OBC spermier got rid of Steve Davis and boy, Joe Gibbs sure would have liked to have had SD last year. |

Exactly!!! That's why it cannot be a Danny thing. Additionally, It will take a lot more than I have read thus far to convince me that our coaching staff would be involved in some kind of nefarious plot, and conspire to keep Lavar off the field for illegitimate reasons. Re: All Arrington All The Time (Mega Merge Club Mix)
I don't really care at this point. I just know two things:
1. I want LaVar and his huge asssss contract to stay here in D.C. I think it will go a long way in terms breeding a culture of tenured Redskins for life, if there is such a thing. (ref. to an earlier post) 2. I want him to rip Plummer's ass on Sunday!!! |

Re: All Arrington All The Time (Mega Merge Club Mix)
A couple of points:
Well as I said yesterday we all feel so strongly about LA b/c we have been told on so many levels since he was drafted how he is Mr. Redskin. I feel many Pro Bowl Selections are soooo political and unfortunately have sooo little to do with how a player really did during the season. Funny how winning teams place far more players on the PB roster than teams that do mediocre. On some level it is a self fulfilling prophecy. But a playmaker on a 4-12 team is the same as a playmaker on a 12-4 team is he not? Boy as Redskin fans we always seem to need some sort of controversy to get all steamed up about. Last few weeks it was Ramsey v. Brunell now it is LA v. Williams/Lindsey/Synder/First Ladies of Football and God knows who else. I do like the fact though that if the fans/media start getting super riled about this situation and it becomes a distraction then maybe we will have a resolution thru conflict. |

Sorry but I am dead on, the key word you used is HYPED, and that's exactly what I have been saying all along Lavar is a product of hype, he's a tremendous physical specimen, who really has no instinks as a football player. Yes everyone in and out of the organazation has hyped Lavar since he's come into the league, and he hasen't remotly earned it, as far as the next LT? Let's not embarasse Lavar with that comparison, LT used to drive and knock offensive tackles on their a**, Lavar get's locked up by TE's, like any other LB. |

Pro-bowls are a big time popularity contest, how many guy's don't get voted in because they are quite and keep out of the headlines [C.Griffen]? Lavar is the opposite, and that's what they want at the pro-bowl personalities, if he didn't come into the league with such hype, and wasen't picked so high, kept his mouth shut and produced the same would he be a 2 time pro-bowler? His best season was at end under Lewis when he managed 11 sacks. I really don't put much stock in a player making the pro bowl, I want to see production on the field, he's finally being called out as a football player by Williams and he's failing miserably! |
Re: All Arrington All The Time (Mega Merge Club Mix)
You are a LaVar hater! I didn't see that thread listed. Some guys, yeah they may get there on popularity but I dont believe LaVar was one of them. As far LaVar being a self promoter, I dont believe he is and dont think there is anything there to say he is. He has never done the things TO on Chad Johnson, Joe Horn, all those guys that do stupid things to get on TV. He goes out and plays, plays hard, and when healthy makes plays. You can not sit there and say he is over hyped(although you are) it will be hard to find a high number of people that say he is overhyped. I hope he gets in this year and proves people like you wrong. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I just think yours is wrong. He is a better than average LB, and better that all of the ones we have on our roster(excluding Marcus Washington) was his getting in on popularity? what about Peyton, Shaun Alexander, Tony Gonzalez? I dont see any self promoting there.
|
Re: All Arrington All The Time (Mega Merge Club Mix)
LaVar is a very good football player. Maybe because he possesses a rare blend of size, speed and power he is "overhyped" by the media. But he's a playmaker too, something that our defense sorely needs. Yes, we are playing great defensively but the areas in which everyone seems to agree we need to improve on (forcing turnovers and getting pressure on the qb) are LaVar's strengths. I'm not sure why he's not playing right now, obviously the coaching staff knows something that we don't know.
As for "football instinks" let's just say LaVar has plenty. He makes game changing plays, which we may have forgotten since he's yet to really play in GWilliams defense. He's a weapon, right now one we have in reserve, and I sure hope he's making a big impact on opposing defenses sooner rather than later. |
Re: All Arrington All The Time (Mega Merge Club Mix)
Man! this is really starting to upset me. he's better than warrick holdman, cuz holdman's been in the league longer and has yet to to go a single pro bowl. what the hell has warrick done that makes him deserve to be a starter? is gibbs keeping him out cuz he thinks he freelances? what the hell, our defense has a bigger turnover potential with lavar in there. i can only hope at this point that lavar studies like hell to learn the playbook and his place.

too bad he can't get on the field to prove it :P |
Re: All Arrington All The Time (Mega Merge Club Mix)
I find it funny that when Lavar can't get on the field after 4 years as a starter, and 4 years to prove what he can do, so many come out and say he's our best LB and on and on, yet Ramsey get's yanked after 19 minutes and so many say if Ramsey was any good he would be playing, they put their trust in Gibbs and say he know's what he's doing. How about putting some trust in Williams, who has out performed Gibbs on his side of the ball 10 times over, but I guess because he's not playing Lavar he hasen't a clue what he's doing? Perhaps we should consult some experts on player development on the defensive side of the ball, Williams could sure use the help, he only finished 3rd over all last season, with no D-line, and a defense that spent 2/3rd's of every game on the field, perhaps the best defensive mind in the game or close to it know's Lavar oh to well.
|
Re: All Arrington All The Time (Mega Merge Club Mix)
I agree offiss, if we should have learned anything by now, it's to have some trust in the decision making of this staff.
They've proven us wrong more often than not. |
Re: All Arrington All The Time (Mega Merge Club Mix)
the difference, offiss, is that ramsey and brunell are both average, and LA is actually good.

Re: All Arrington All The Time (Mega Merge Club Mix)
Sounds like in todays Washington post LA is getting some reps w/ the starters. The players on defense are starting to come to is aid also. Marcus, and lemar marshall both believe he should be on the field. And they are also using the term I am hearing the most our here and thats "PLAYMAKER". Sooner or later he will see the field, we all just better hope he's been mentally preparing for what he has to do on the field. Hey, why doesn't everyone in the stands start yelling L-A-V-A-R like we did with Ramsey last year, maybe that will work?!
