Yes, the sad part is it's a forum to encourage community service. Very funny stuff: [yt]Esj_eVbc9FQ[/yt] |
Saden:
I do not think it was fair to ask Palin, "Do you agree with the Bush Doctrine?" The "Bush Doctrine" has never been clearly defined; it encompasses several different ideas. I spent less than 5 minutes googling the "Bush Doctrine" and, according to a few articles in well known sources (e.g., the WaPo), the "Bush Doctrine" has been used to refer to the notion that: (1) terrorists must be defeated; (2) our nation has the right to wage preventative wars; (3) allowing terrorists to reside in your country is the same as supporting terrorism; (4) it is okay to use force unilaterally and in the face of opposition by international organizations such as the UN; and (5) it is okay to use force against any state that is trying to acquire nuclear, biological or chemical weapons. It was a vague and dumb question that can't be answered with asking a question like, "Could you tell me what you mean by the 'Bush Doctrine?'" To me, it sounds like a question that is clearly designed to make Palin look dumb because there isn't a real answer to it.
I think you're wasting your time. saden doesn't care. |

Come on, she didn't even have a clue until he threw her a bone. If you don't expect the VP to know what it is then you're cheating yourself. S h e d i d h a v e t h e t a l k i n g p o i n t s d o w n t h o u g h.

Just because I disagree doesn't mean I don't care. I care about your well-being. How is the fiance buddy? Did you guys get married? Did you manage to find the right band? |
Re: Update: McCain Selects Gov. Sarah Palin as Running Mate
No, it's not about my opinion. I want peace worldwide, and I don't really have a problem paying for it, if I thought we could achieve it.
Understand that I'm not saying we couldn't achieve peace in Iraq -- I just don't think it is why we are there. In fact, I believe everything our government does (and most/all others) is rooted in self-interest.
Alright, care to fathom a guess at what the self-interest is? I'm just not really seeing it. |
Re: Update: McCain Selects Gov. Sarah Palin as Running Mate
To that end, a part of me strongly leans toward voting for Obama hoping that a significant setback for the GOP will better them down the line.
This is the exact 100% true reason that I can't just vote for McCain and be done with it. I'm undecided because I feel it would be in the best interest of the long-term success of the Republican Party to lose this election.
But Barack Obama is certainly not the man to lead the U.S. to greener pastures. And, come election day, I'm probably going to favor the short term success of the U.S. over the long term success of a single party. I guess if "Country First" has any practical meaning, that's it. But I'm still not happy about it. |
Re: Update: McCain Selects Gov. Sarah Palin as Running Mate
I'd like to believe that McCain sees this as his last chance (which of course it is) and that he is doing to whatever it takes to win and get in the White House. And once he gets there he will be the McCain he claims he is, not the one he's seemingly forced to be to get voted.
I 100% believe this, but this also might apply to Obama to an extent.
Alright, care to fathom a guess at what the self-interest is?
I'm just not really seeing it.
Well, National Security is the reason most politicians would give. I don't buy it though. Really, I don't have many worthy ideas -- most just seem too conspiratorial (i.e.: defense contracts, etc.). So, it's hard for me to see to, but I think self-interest is the most likely motive. |
The term "Elected" should be used loosely, at least in 2000.
Complaining about the results of the 2000 election has to be the politics equivlent of lambasting the officials for correctly ruling a poorly worded rule in football. It's so insignificant in the grand scheme of things, but people just harp on it incessantly.
And this is coming from someone who thinks Gore-Lieberman was the strongest ticket for the Democrats in the last 30 years. |

Possible for sure, given the rarity of info surrounding the decisions we made, but too far-fetched for my blood. |

Re: Update: McCain Selects Gov. Sarah Palin as Running Mate
Let me first say that I am an Obama supporter and I disagree with many of Palin's socio-political views. However, I must say I am somewhat troubled by the nature and volume of attacks on her lately. She got flak for having a young baby and running for VP when no new father would ever be questioned for running for VP. She has gotten tremendous flak for her lack of experience when she has as much experience as a Governor as Edwards did as a Senator when he ran in 2004. She is ridiculed for her lack of foreign policy experience when Obama's foreign policy experience is equally scant. I feel like a feminist right now, but I can't help but wonder if she is drawing more than her fair share of criticism because of her gender and not because of her politics.
Saden, this is in no way directed at you. I'm responding to the flood of stories I've been reading on cnn.com, politico.com, etc. and the nature of the television press coverage. Dems are acting like the press is fawning all over her while I feel quite the opposite. She's getting a TON of coverage and is being called the GOP's new rock star, but she's getting hit with a lot of criticism that isn't being leveled at her male counterparts. |
