What a f*cking idiot.
So Sherman speaks out against the Redskins team name but THIS is okay? Football has gone too far with it's ethics policies. Players are paid to PLAY THE GAME. If they don't like the trash talk they're hearing from the other side of the ball they can quit and leave the league at any time. I understand there are ethics involved and obviously if a White player were to use the N word in an obvious discriminatory nature he should be penalized more than 15 yards BUT, that's rarely the case when these guys have grown up using that word as an endearing term their whole life. The NFL needs to get back to what they're there for, FOOTBALL. No lawyers writing up new rules and penalties to drive their bank accounts up. No letters from congress asking to change your teams name out of the blue. No censorship on the field when we live in a "free country." LET THEM PLAY THE GAME DAMNIT! |

i understand that these guys are competitive and may be sour grapes ... but i cant discredit what current nfl players are saying (he only plays cover on 1 side, doesnt match up with no. 1s all game, has beast players around him, etc ... my take on sherman is i hate him bc i hate what the seahawks have done to us in the playoffs i hate him bc he was acting like an ass after our game when trent punched him i hate him bc he used the NFC champ game to act "shocking" and try and brand his name for marketing at the expense of being true to his fellow nfl players i hate him bc it seems like he runs his mouth but doesnt want to back it up when confronted (softball game and trent) .. and yeah i understand that its a game and he is a professional and he shouldnt be getting into fist fights but .... if you run your mouth and that person takes offense to it, you should oblige that person with a mutual affray. we arent talking about tennis players here. |
It would cost a boatload of money to change the name. A boatload.

Yeah but they'd probably make 2 boatloads if they changed the name. |

Re: Paintrain's all encompassing 'discuss all things offseason' thread (Version 2.0)
Not sure how changing a major brand would result in some sort of financial windfall. A lot of alienated fans wouldn't exactly be lining up to spend their hard earned $$ out of protest.
Think about it with another team. If the Steelers were to change their name and logo does anyone think that would be a good thing for them? A hardcore passionate fan base isn't going to forgive and forget overnight. |

Not only would the facilitation of the change cost money, but like Matty says it isnt even guaranteed that the new brand would be a success. |

I would imagine that the level of backlash would depend on the perceived level of effort from ownership in protecting the name. IE if Snyder and company simply rolled over and just went... Then I would imagine the backlash would be pretty substantial. Another factor would be how fans would view the aesthetic changes to the name, logo, uniforms, etc should a name change come to pass. Many of us including (Dan S) have childhood memories tied to the franchise and when/if the name ever changes a piece of my fandom will die with it. I don't believe, for me, it would be the same. I would still be a Washington fan, but my level of fandom would be eroded. |

Exactly. Dirtbag references Snyders effort in protecting the team name. I would be less apt to buy new brand merch because of the jackasses who rule the world. Not to mention its already past the point of Snyder rolling over. |
