I actually sort of applaud the guy. Not because I necessarily agree with his position but because if you're going to be against abortion you really have to be against all abortion. Oh and the death penalty too. This non-sense where people purport to be anti-abortion except in cases of rape and/or incest baffles me. I mean if your stance is that life is life at conception then the nature of the situation resulting in conception should be irrelevant in your mind. Right?
I think you missed the biggest part of all this.
"First of all, from what I understand from doctors, that's really rare," Akin said of rape-induced pregnancy in an interview with KTVI. A clip of the interview was posted online by the liberal super PAC American Bridge.

"If it's a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down," Akin continued. He did not provide an explanation for what constituted "legitimate rape."
Nothing to applaud this guy about one bit. Stupidity is stupidity.

I would never applaud such an ignorant position. Flat out offensive

You didn't get this sort of bat shit crazy back in the days, so what the hell happened?

Here is another facepalm:

This dude is on a science committee talking stupid shit like this?...lol

Asshat is claiming to "misspoke" yet still is against abortions for rape victims? OBVIOUSLY YOU DIDN"T MISSPEAK YOU DUMMY!
MO Senate race went from a GOP slam dunk to a hail merry pass. I can't wait for the polls.

There is nothing to applaud about this guy. It's one thing to be against abortion and back it with your beliefs but it's another to be a member of House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology and say dumb shit like:
If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.
Maybe a scientific experiment on rape and pregnancy should be conducted using his daughter as a test subject.

Flip: Kudos to Romney condemning the stupidity

Flop: Boo to Romney for being "delighted" to support abortion (even for rape) back in 2007.

You can't have the Flip with Romney, without having the Flop to go along. He doesn't just stand for anything, he stands for nothing....lol

Re: 2012 Presidential Election (free for all edition)

Whatever guys.. don't bother trying to understand what he actually meant nor what I was trying to say. Ignorant position or not at least he doesn't roll with the standard logical inconsistency most pro-lifers do about rape/incest. Better put: his position may be wrong but at least it is consistently wrong. The lack of logical consistency within the articulated positions of our esteemed politicians is a distinct blight on our system. Across the political board.

Again, I think you missed the biggest part of what he said, and it had nothing to do with his stance on abortion. Maybe it is you that should understand what he said and exactly why it was mind boggling. Again, it has nothing to do with his stance on abortion.(even though that's wrong as well)

Not sure I buy into your "consistency" statement though. Nothing honorable or admirable about consistently being ignorant. We get what you are saying though, we just don't agree with what you are saying.

Still don't understand applauding anything about what he said.

So while he's an idiot, at least he's consistent with his idiocy?

Ok

Perhaps applaud is the wrong word. I suppose the subtle sarcasm also doesn't come through.

One would think "don't be an idiot" is preferable to "being a consistent idiot." People like this should be chastised and chased out from positions of responsibility not applaud.

...but yes, I don't get it either.

Re: 2012 Presidential Election (free for all edition)

And I strongly believe it is MORE stupid for people to have illogical views. To me that shows far more stupidity than simply saying something stupid (which can be subject to simple misspeak or misunderstanding) or taking an unpopular position. If one cannot see the logical inconsistency in being pro-life but only in certain cases then that shows a distinct lack of intelligence in my opinion.

I would like him to explain what he was TRYING to say with the term "legitimate rape". I mean he's gonna lose now so he might as well try and explain it. What does he have to lose?

**** that. I want to know which doctors told him that a woman's body shuts itself down during a rape which leads to less pregnancies. THAT is what the hell I want to know so we can round them up and discredit those asshats.

Mind you, this is the guy on a science committee saying this garbage.

He said he would be willing to sign a bill turning it back over to the states. You need to listen to your own links.
