Yep. Zo is a classic case where you can't blame the guy for taking the money but in some ways his new gig is a demotion.

This thread is quickly becoming a oxymoron.
Makes sense but it could get worse and surely it will.
I don't think it has to. our secondary and safety play in particular were so bad last year, we are basically just trying a new crew. Some will step up, some won't, but I would be shocked if our young guys can't at least equal what was a pretty dismal performance. Also, if our dline and olb's stay healthy (always a question), the experience guys like Jenkins and Jackson got this year by more extended play, should let us see some solid improvements in the pressure we generate.

As was said, we kept our offense in place, so that should be a strength, and are going to have to go young at what was already an area in need of overhaul. I am pretty hopeful that next year won't see much of a decline in statistical performance, if any at all.

And I like my koolaid with ice, thanks!

Would like to see the skins give Dan Conner a look. Only 27 , good fit in our style defence . Could replace Alexander.

How is it a demotion? He's a starter there.

He's going to compete for a starter position.
And the Cardinals are in quarterback hell.
They will be a basement team for a while....

Of course you are correct that he becomes a starter there. Good for him. But he will join a crappy team edition of a franchise that already typically is off-the-radar, meaning he will have little national exposure. Instead of fighting for glory in a sexy NFL division, he'll slip into obscurity in NFL Siberia.

"Compete." I missed that key word. He probably would have had that same opportunity here if Fletch had retired. I would have rather kept Zo for 3 more years than Fletch for 1.

for an extra 1.6MM garaunteed, can you blame him? 1.6MM to a guy like Lorenzo is alot more than 1.6MM to someone like Peyton Manning.

"I was ready to sign back with the Redskins on Monday night, but it wound up not being close at all,” Alexander said in an exclusive, in-person interview at the NFL Players Association meetings in the Bahamas where he’s representing Washington. “They were offering $2.6 [million guaranteed] with an overall contract of $7.5 million over three years. The next day, they called back and said they would only guarantee $1.4 [million] of that. Dropping more than a million dollars overnight without any reason, I couldn’t take that money out of my kids’ mouths. Based on everything I’ve done [for] this organization, doing everything the right way, it was just a bad way to treat me. I understand the business, but … it didn’t sit right at all with me.”

Schefter just posted that there's essentially a bidding war between us and Cleveland for Fred.

I'm nervous.
One league source familiar with thinking of Washington free-agent TE Fred Davis said Redskins and Browns "are serious about signing him."
Hopefully we'll beat them out for Davis like we did for Griffin. New owner though, so we'll see if he's as shy with the trigger as the last guy.

skinsfaninok 03-14-2013 09:52 AM

Play with Brandon Weeden or Robert Griffin? Hmmm.... Tough decision...

I can't see anything other than money and returning to his hometown as being reasons to sign with CLE.

This had to do with who signed first.

Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013

He continued: “I even asked Bruce why [the offer] changed, and he said, ‘It’s because of the cap,’ and I got emotional, because this is home. I love the fans, I love the team and the coaches and the guys in that locker room, and the city. But, God’s moving me in a different direction, and it’s the Cardinals. Hopefully, I’ll be able to carry over the same type of hard work and play that I had here, and bring it there. But it was definitely hard. It just didn’t add up for me to stay. But I know, in my heart of hearts, if it wasn’t for the cap, I would've been here.”

This is an exert from an article in the Washington Post.

Zo wanted to come back, we wanted him back, the cap penalty cost us and he knows it. No hard feelings and what ever was written before about him being upset with the organization was just looking for press. I wish the guy the best.
