Re: Chase Young or Three First Round Picks?
Do we really need lots of help? Not saying we don't but wasn't coaching the biggest issue in recent years?
I mean look at SF. Yes Kittle and Bosa are potential HoF players but it's not like they have a fully loaded roster. The biggest difference maker to that team was getting coaching (though Lynch deserves a lot of credit). Maybe we shouldn't be too ready to trade away a potential difference maker in exchange for just more picks. Maybe CY isn't what he's made out to be, but there's more chance he is than he isn't. Is there 1, maybe even 2 players lower down the order that offer the potential impact he does? Maybe but unlikely based on the analysis I've seen. Quality over quantity in my book.
San Fran has really nice pieces on defense that was built from the draft and a secondary that benefited sitting in zone coverages. The ultimate compliment to that defense is the offense system. On San Fran offense its scheme > talent. Oline...good not great, RB...role players, WR...role players...QB...above average...TE...great athletic player who is in a scheme that features the tight end. That offense is well coach, but it based on a running scheme which allows a defense to sit and rest. |
Re: Chase Young or Three First Round Picks?
When the smoke clears from these offseason moves, I'm going to support whatever moves RR makes or doesn't make. He deserves a chance to do his way what he is tasked to do by the team owner.
If he reads this post I'm sure he'll be relieved to know that I'm giving him a mulligan. ;) |

Re: Chase Young or Three First Round Picks?
All the buzz lately is that Tua is not worth taking at #2 and may even fall out of the top 10. No one's trading up for Tua. Chase Young is about as much of a lock as there can be.

I can definitely see Tua dropping. And yeah, nobody is going to give up picks to take a risk on him with that injury history. |

Detroit open to trading down:

He looked beastly on NFL Network recently training. Kid has monster potential. Keep the Ohio St pipeline going. Interested to see what te/wr we target in this draft. HTTR! |
Re: Chase Young or Three First Round Picks?
When i thought we could potentially get a HAUL from Miami, I was all about trading down as we could go to 5 and still get a dynamic playmaker like Okudah or Simmons and then still get a TON of picks. So passing on Young would be hard, but worth it. At this point, there is not going to be an offer that would make it worth our while to give up on him.
The only way Chase Young is not a redskin this time next week is if the Bengals surprise everyone and take him at #1. |

Re: Chase Young or Three First Round Picks?
Give me Chase Young, a new stud wr and all olinemen after that. This would dramatically improve this team. Haskins will kill it was protection. Also our stud tbs (AP, Guice, Love, Mckissic.) If we move Williams, we could be really looking different/improved post draft.

He won’t make it past Jacksonville at 9. You heard it here first. Lol. |

Re: Chase Young or Three First Round Picks?
When I started this thread I thought there was a very good chance of a trade down. But after close examination, the only team with enough trade picks to justify NOT taking Chase Young is Miami. The only Miami picks worthy of Young were their #5 pick, another first rounder (#18) and probably a second rounder. Many have advocated that sort of trade.
The problem is, Miami isn’t going to make the offer. Most likely, they just have to sit at #5, do nothing, and Tua will fall in their laps. Besides Cincy, none of the next three drafting teams want a QB. The Coronavirus crisis will make every team more cautious in the draft. The Redskins played the “we want to draft Tua to replace Haskins” card fairly well, but ultimately only conspiracy buffs, sports writers needing a bogus story to gain readership, or NFL fans who only saw Haskins first game, believed this idea. Miami doesn’t accept this propaganda from Rivera and that’s all that matters. Finally, big trade offers are very rare and often end up being huge busts for the team offering so many draft picks. Case in point is the RG3 deal. So, for many reasons, the big draft trade idea, with Miami is just a pipe dream. I am surprised that a well-respected and smart writer like Bosewell (Washington Post) would urge such a trade. We will draft Chase Young and I’m extremely excited to see how he energizes the defense and gives us the first elite pass rush in over 25 years. I and many in the NFL just want to see how good Chase actually is and whether he’s even 50% of the hype. Fortunately, he will have an outstanding Defensive Coordinator and HC to learn from AND they will properly use his talents. Also, the rest of the Redskin’s DL is just going to explode this season, as the spotlight shines on Chase. Unfortunately, it does take EVERY rookie time to master their position - even if he is the phenom everyone says he is. So Young will do well, we’ll see occasional flashes of greatness, but I doubt he’s going to blaze with full afterburners right from the first play. 10-12 sacks. Rejoice Redskins fans! We may be drafting an outstanding player or maybe even a superstar with Chase. A hometown hero returning to his team. Just don’t expect miracles right away. Simply his presence and media attention will help Sweat, Allen, Payne and Ionnadis to improve and excel. I predict that the defense will go from the basement level to the top 10. We may be getting as big a superstar as Sean Taylor, but more importantly the defensive squad will be lifted by his play and will be the best part of this team at least next year and beyond. HAIL!
