BS class action lawsuits where the attorneys make all the money and the class of actual victims get pennies, literally.

I just received a class action notice against facebook if you bought their shares during their IPO, which I did.

in exchange for payment of 26.5 mil, I would get ..... 15.5 cents. The attorneys? they get 1/3 of the 26.5 mil ....

im an attorney but this is such BS.

they dont even tell you what Facebook did.

The only explanation given is this: "The lead Plaintiff's alleged that the NASDAQ defendants acted negligently in violation of the federal securities laws in connection with Facebook's IPO on May 18,2012, and that retail investors in Facebook common stock that day suffered damages as a result of that conduct."

WTF? when i got a class action notice re a B of A issue where i know i lost 2k plus in fraudulent fees, i called the number that had been given on the notice which directed you to a website ... the website was "under construction" all the way up to last day to opt out. i got a check from B of A for a few bucks.


Class actions are BS, they only enrich the attorneys.

Probably just me, but I get irked when people rip on weather men. They are literally predicting the weather.

They are using advanced algorithms and historical records of data to crunch numbers and weigh different models to help form a consensus. It's incredible when you sit back and think how difficult that must be. Think about the complexity of a million different variables that must exist, and 9 out of 10 times they absolutely nail it.

Then it snows 5 inches instead of 7 and everyone bitches. Fuck you, everyone.

well, technically the computers are running 1000's of simulations by changing variables slightly as seeing the possible results. I think it's a problem with people not understanding how the predictions work. 20% chance of rain doesn't mean it'll rain 20% of the time today, it means that 20% of the simulated models show rain formations occurring.

but yeah, it's not like they're not trying their best, and it's not like national government agencies and local stations haven't invested millions in getting it as right as possible. it's also amazing how much historical data is actually out there (we've been doing observation/tracking in the US since the early 1800's).

the fact that the US air force bombing videos are still in B&W and not color. It is a pretty well defined B&W but its 2015 and we have the biggest military budget in the world.

i could go into it, but the video's are high def, and a lot of times they're using IR/thermal/night vision, which really doesn't lend itself to color (well, thermal does i guess, but color is based on the reflection of light). If it suited their purposes (and was a visible light camera) it'd be in color (and day recon generally is color/3D), otherwise it just adds expense. most missions are at night (safer for aircraft) an use IR (you could NV a visible light camera (again removing color), but the explosive plume would obscure the target, making it impossible to track ordinance hits).

Believe it or not they are still maintaining and using some items from WWII.
I no longer do it but from 2009-2011 I did some direct government contracting. It was usually small replacement parts, all parts had names and part numbers but many times it didn't say what they went on. I received
a lot of blueprints that had dates on them with the last revisions being in the
1940's with the materials and processes used long obsolete. (Of course you then just used the modern equivalent or better) I did see some that were
missile parts with dates from the 60's. Never been in the military but I am
pretty sure we still have old missiles siting in silos pointed all over the place.
Somebody just gives them a once over and replaces anything that degraded
over time and makes it good as new. We landed on the moon in 1969 so I
am sure a lot of that 50 year old technology is good enough in a lot of situations.

You really dont care bc you were going to open the door for her anyway but it is fun to feel her feeling awkward as you stand directly behind her in line for the next few minutes.

well... sort of. the whole push for new bombers right now is because the old "still working ones" are actually really (really) expensive, since they break a lot and some of the parts aren't even made anymore, worn out A-frames, designs not made with maintenance in mind and all that. I could bore you with details, but... eh. generally stuff isn't just replaced for no reason though (f22/35 program excluded).

The large font that now seems prevalent on all sports websites (ESPN, FOX, CBS etc) It seems they have all copied each others format. Also anytime you
click on a game recap or even look up scores a video immediately starts up
with some loud blowhard screaming at you. I don't understand the point of
videos immediately running on all pages, annoying as hell to me. What is the purpose and they aren't selling anything.

Thanks, so far it works everywhere but ESPN. Even proactively setting it for ESPN and the videos still play when you open the page. I have satellite internet
where things don't work like they should on many websites, maybe that is the
problem.

okay, couple things.

first on the player on any espn page: (ie)

in the lower right of the embedded video player there's an autoplay on/off thing, click it off, that should fix it without flashcontrol.


a second and completely separate option is in flashcontrol, go to settings, on the left side of the screen, go to blacklist, click on site and enter:
*player.ooyala.com*

and it'll totally kill all the videos on espn when flashcontrol is not disabled i believe. you could also enter:

*espn.go.com*

though that may or may not work as well.


hope that helps. again, easiest answer is just click autoplay off in the embedded video player.

A co-worker was trying to cut a mango and we were talking about how there must be some technique to cut a mango easy. so i youtubed "easy way to cut mango" and it brings up this video from "the produce guy". looks good. i start watching it and 56 seconds into the video he pulls out a fucking store bought mango slicer. something designed to only cut mangos.

me - "I saw you pouring it from the pike place."

her - "oh yeah, we are out of dark roast so i filled the half up w pike place. Do you want to wait while the dark roast brews?"

me - "why didnt you just tell me you were out of the dark roast in the first place?"
