Man Manchin has the kingmaker power right now. If he could translate it to moving compromise legislation through - bypassing hardliners on both sides - that would be awesome.

If Biden would act like Biden and not some socialist leftist, he could. But unfortunately he decided to let progressive run his administration so fuck him.

I have zero sympathy for him and his disastrous start to his Presidency

Privately Senator Sinema has been telling people it’s not just her and Manchin who are opposed to #BuildBackBetter — many of their Democrat colleagues are opposed as well, but afraid to speak up. She tells them they’re “hiding behind her skirt.”

Biden hasn’t governed like a moderate, that’s why he’s been a disaster. The folks in charge of the administration aren’t really good at this.

Puh lease. There is not one iota of socialism in there. The only thing it is is an incredibly rich country with plenty of money deciding what they are going to prioritize. Joe Manchin has proven time and again he cares nothing for the people of his state or country unless it benefits him. I don't see how you can praise him for his personal gains at the expense of our country and then with a straight face criticize others.

Chico is so cookie cutter Trumpish. Anything left is socialist communist anti American etc etc etc

Anything right is patriotic.

You cannot be that surprised. If Biden switched sides tomorrow Chico would praise everything the man has ever done.

He is not about policy. He is about a side. Which is whatever side Trump is on because for some reason Chico thinks the moron has his finger on the pulse of democracy when actually it is up his ass with his head.

We don't have plenty of money. We just keep borrowing and borrowing and borrowing money we don't have. We are in debt 29 trillion dollars.

It's incredibly unfair to say if you're against this monster bill you're doing it at the expense of your country. There are valid reasons why people are against it.

Spending tons of money does not automatically equal good for the country.

If that was the case, this country would be absolutely perfect by now. That's all our government does is print and spend money they don't have.

Okay let me rephrase then. We are an incredibly wealthy country with vast amount or resources. We are choosing to utilize that capital in a way that benefits very few instead of benefiting the country as a whole. Benefiting many should not be viewed as socialism but a country doing right by their citizens not the industrial-military complex. Whether we are in debt or not is irrelevant if people like Joe Manchin say "I can support A but not B" even though B will help us and A doesn't

Re: Fresh Start Political Thread

Well to be fair to Manchin it was the White House that were playing games on the cost of the bill. The CBO said it wasn't paid for and the White House response was to shorten the time of the programs to 3 years while stating next 10 years of a tax increase (that they would have to extend after 3 years) would pay for them. Manchin knew that Dems would have to be in power to extend the taxes and if they were they'd also extend the programs - ie it wasn't going to be payed for. To clarify a Republican controlled Congress = no tax extension which means increased debt. A Dem controlled congress = Tax extension which pays for 1st three years but then also means extension of programs as well which means increased debt.

BaltimoreSkins 12-20-2021 08:15 PM

I agree the game playing is counterproductive. It should be okay to say that providing services will cost money and not lie about it.

The infrastructure bill that actually got passed was 2702 pages. I mean, c'mon, no way you can possibly believe a bill needs 2700 pages, if it was actually drafted strictly for national infrastructure. That bill had more pork than a sausage factory.

If anyone here has read a 2700 page book, you're a superior human than me.

The infrastructure bill compared to BBB is childs play.

NJ is a blue state, but my county and town are solid red. I work in a neighboring town that is straight Trump shrines in every yard. I swear to God they go to church to pray to and for him. At least twice a day I have homeowners trying to talk to me about the deep state and why Biden ruined their lives. Im thinking dude your front yard has been littered with old toilets, trash, and broken down cars long before Biden took office but I usually just smile, nod my head, and get back in my car like our friend in the woods.

Over 50% of infrastructure bill was corporate giveaways. One of the reasons I did not really understand why progressives allowed that to get passed first. there are enough in congress to hold their votes and elicit real change for good.

To your other post: I was born in Beaufort, SC and still consider SC my home state but after college I could not bring myself to move back there. I was a military brat and spent most of my life outside Fort Bragg, Fort Benning and Fort Polk. I have had enough of southern conservatism. I also lived in Fort lewis. The western conservative mindset is far more to my liking than the southern.

Lot's of great restaurants there be prepared for traffic, bad driving and to put on twenty pounds from fried food alone. Head to Isle of Palms go to Acme Cantina and get the Gouda Grit Fries. Ask them to add some shrimp. Go to Simmons Seafood for key lime pie. Don't ever let anyone see you buy shrimp at a grocery store pick it up at the dock on Shem Creek. Swig and Swine up route 41 for your que. Riverdogs games are the bomb great food and beer. Go opening night to hang with Bill Murray

It refers to a long stigma, but liberals, political talking heads, and media have gone to it this week bc of Manchin correct position on the socialist, 5 trillion bullshit bill

sdskinsfan2001 12-22-2021 11:04 AM

Re: Fresh Start Political Thread

Why do only a 5 trillion bill? If 5 trillion is good, then 10 trillion would be really good.

The democratic party (the party as a whole, not necessarily individual voters) pretending it cares about coal workers is also lol.

If that health coverage thing needs to be extended, and that's really important to democrats, they can simply draft a bill that is strictly for that.

Instead we draft these huge fucking bills with everything and the kitchen sink in it, mostly stuffed with pork. Then pull out little parts like this that might actually be helpful, and say, look see if you don't vote for this bill, you don't care about X group.

The problem isn't Manchin, the problem is the bill itself. And it's just the bill process in general, that is the deep problem.

No way people that vote on these bills even know what's in all them. Thousands of pages, how could you.
