Re: Let's talk good beer
perfect pour in ellicott city/columbia area has the best variety and selection i have seen in any MD craft beer store. everything seems overpriced by a dollar. titan ipa is 12.99 instead of 11.99, etc. (MD dist still completely out of great divides brewers pick)
tried the smuttynose, pretty good. w sculpin, my brain is really zeroing in on the grapefruit aspect and it is starting to become a distraction. some new beer developments ive noticed: 1. beer camp is back!!! - sorta. ballast point's indian pale lager won the contest so they are doing a six pack release of ballast points contribution for only $8.99 a sixer. that is a good discount from the 11 to 15 bucks ballast point beers usually cost. Electric Ray: India Pale Lager (Beer Camp Across America) | Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. | Chico, CA | BeerAdvocate im def picking up a few 6ers tonight. 2. sierra nevada has a new 12 pack out called "4 way ipa". at 18.99 its a fair price. Ive never seen a "black ipa" but there is one in the SN variety pack as well as ive noticed other brewers coming out with black ipas. im hesitant to buy a variety pack without knowing i will like each beer. i still have 2 SN porters and coffee stouts from a winter pack months ago. Sierra Nevada Goes Hop Heavy with First Variety Pack | Community | BeerAdvocate ill be getting a 12er of this as well. |

Drinking a Hi-Res | Sixpoint Brewery | Brooklyn, NY | BeerAdvocate after drinking a Stone Enjoy By IPA | Stone Brewing Co. | Escondido, CA | BeerAdvocate. I also have a 12er of the hoppy lager in the fridge. I tried the 4 way last year and enjoyed it. I believe the black ipa was my favorite.

Re: Let's talk good beer
tried a sixer of Goose island IPA. it is an english style IPA so its like an english bitter meets american IPA, with the english bitter being the dominant party.
it grew on me as i drank it. a cleaner crisp finish which is kinda the opposite of hop heavy american IPAs that leave your breath killer. i will probably just buy great divide's english bitter over this, but i liked it. SN's 4 way IPA 12 pack is next. |
Re: Let's talk good beer
i dont like to drink during the work week but sometimes when the terps play on a weeknight it has a football sunday feel and i like to drink a couple.
problem is most beers are 7% and up, you drink 4 or 5 and your groggy the next day. tried new belgium's session ipa. at 4.5% it was tasty and after drinking 4 last night, im good to go today. |

Lagunitas Daytime and Founders All Day are great. Heavy seas just released Crossbones which I haven't had yet and Flying Dog has Easy IPA which is good. They are great when you want to have a few but not get tore up. |
Re: Let's talk good beer
Anybody had an IPA recently they didn't like?
|
Re: Let's talk good beer
A lot of brewers are trending towards more drinkable sessions styles these days which is definitely a good thing.

I'll list a couple that are just not my favorite, no 1 is a va brewery star hill and it's called northern lights. Sux. Serra Nevada torpedo, sam Adam latitude, dogfish head 60 minute, stone arrogant bastard "strong ale", devil backbone 8 point ipa and never a fan of the victory hop devil. Couple average I'd say new Belgium ranger, goose island, and smutty nose |
Re: Let's talk good beer
DFH 60 minute and Torpedo are two of my favs.

I think with torpedo is it has a "syrupy" taste to it...I taste this sometimes with hoppy beers. Dunno what it is. |

Re: Let's talk good beer
nee brewery from baltimore called monument city brewing. they just started bottling their 51 rye ipa and it is awesome.
meet the 2 brothers ata tasting friday. i think they brew through a co op which sounds cool. local brew people working next to each other. 51 rye should put them on the map |
Re: Let's talk good beer
Natty Green beers taste skunky. And anything with "hops" or "hoppy" in the name tastes like a soda fountain is on the fritz, and not putting out enough syrup.

Our Story My tiny ass hometown in Greenwich NY where I graduated with about 80 other kids and they have an awesome brewery, literally a 5 minute walk from where I lived growing up. Great beer made by some great guys living their dream. It's really what beer is all about. |
