Re: 2013 NFL Draft Prospects
DJ Swearinger please.
The following is from a Washington Times article about your boy, DJ: Swearinger wasn’t particularly colorful during his media session at the scouting combine in February, but his sales pitch was concise and clear. "I’m the best safety in this draft because I’m a leader first and foremost," said Swearinger, who captained South Carolina’s defense. "I have instincts that coaches can’t coach. You can’t coach instincts. I have great ball skills, great feet and hips. I’m going to stay in that film room and be a hard worker day in an day out." He has experience playing every position in the secondary, especially both safety positions, which suits how Redskins defensive coordinator Jim Haslett likes to disguise coverages. And, of course, that versatility also helps after the snap. "First of all you’ve got to have great instincts, great ball skills," Swearinger said. "You’ve got to read coverages. You’ve got to be able to run, tackle in the open field and play the ball when it’s in the air." That is impressive stuff. |

He clearly has confidence in his abilities and understands the position. The team captain experience is solid. However, I am curious as to whether the scouts agree with his self assessment. |

His projected draft round varies from as high as 2nd to as low as 4th, according to the "draft guru" rankings I've seen. Most sites seem to see him going in the 3rd round, right now. That said, there's no telling when he'll be picked. Each NFL team has its own draft board and decision making process. |

By the way I would hate it if that was how our draft went. |

I don't know why you trashed 30gut's mock draft without bothering to offer your reasons. Every player he listed has great athletic ability, good to outstanding size, and has shown NFL potential. His picks also address the Skins' primary needs and he has placed his picks in appropriate rounds. Some of these players have a few warts, but don't we all? |
