Re: The FINAL Kirk Cousins Saga thread. 5.0
I like Cousins and wished he stayed but he is partly to blame for what happened here too. Not only for the way he didn't want to negotiate, but by his play. Playoff game against Green Bay? He played like shit. In another game that was basically a playoff game against the Giants in 16, he played like shit again and threw a pick to end the season. And we all know how this season ended, ditto of 2016.
So with all that are you actually going to give him 30 million a year? No way in hell. Give me Keenum, Bradford, McCarron, or a draft pick for way less money. Look at all the rookies that have had success on rookie deals? Cousins isn't pushing any of the teams looking at him over the top. I hate the trade because giving away a high draft pick and a starter for a game manager is stupid as hell. Just stupid as it gets. I would have went w/ Colt and drafted someone, and hoped that rookie could beat out Colt. But I DO applaud the Redskins for at least being disciplined enough to not cave into Cousins bullshit playing. They said enough and turned their back on him. Good for them for ending this. Hopefully.... |
I really think you’re overthinking it CR.
Top 12 QB hits the market in the prime of his career = payday And it wouldn’t be over the top money, it’s market value for the next guy up
Agreed. Three years from now, it will look like chump change. (Hard to call $30M/yr chump change, but still...) I'm not sold on the idea that Cousins has so much competition that his value will drop. I think he's the most sought after free agent QB and that's including whoever is available from Minnesota. |

Remember a few years back Tomlin said BEN is elite because "he wins, we don't care about sexy numbers" I'm at that point now too after 3 years of GREAT STATS but NO WINS. |
Re: The FINAL Kirk Cousins Saga thread. 5.0
Cousins is going to have a lot of competition. He's got some free agents that are way cheaper and of course some really good rookies. It will be interesting come March.
So why not trade up in the draft trade picks and take a rookie QB and move up in the draft, you would save cap space that way. |

Similar to Cousins, Smith isn't pushing anyone over the top. His last playoff game is a perfect example of that. Good player though. It's a move that may keep the Redskins a float, in the 7-9 win range. Nothing more and maybe less. |

IDK about the playoff game, he was really good, he lost Kelce and the D couldn't stop TENN at all. His overall numbers in the playoffs are great. It shows that he is poised and doesn't get rattled. I think we can win 10 games or more next yr |

You don't need to do that. You can find quality starters in the 3rd or 4th round. With our situation, we aren't a QB away from contending so that's why the trade for Smith was useless. |

I disagree, Smith has been in the league 9 years. In years he was the starter on his team his team placed x in the division: 2nd (8-8) 3rd (6-10) 1st (13-3 highest approximate value on team - pro football reference) * 1st (6-2-1 with him - they finished 11-4-1) 2nd(11-5) 2nd(9-7) 2nd(11-5 highest approximate value on team - pro football reference) 1st(12-4) 1st(10-6 highest approximate value on team - pro football reference) That is a consistent track record on two different teams, two different coaching styles, and many different personnel groups. He has had 3 seasons in the 7-9 win range in 9 years. I expect him to do good things here. |
I keep saying this, and when you take the Redskins out of the equation, a team has to fall in love with him to pay over the top money. I just don't think his body of work, and his previous non-negotiations with the Redskins will get teams jumping over each other to sign him.
Not really. Brock Osweiler got a huge ass contract from the idiotic Texans. Just takes desperation and stupidity to sign those kinds of contracts. |

Again, I agree that that is true, but a winning FO won't do those stupid contracts, so IF KC is honest about going to a winning franchise, he will not get over JG money. IF he just wants to capitalize on being an NFL qb, without regard to what his team's record is, he will be the highest paid QB (APY) for a few days. |
Re: The FINAL Kirk Cousins Saga thread. 5.0
I was looking at the career splits for KC and AS, just out of curiosity and a few things stood out to me that I thought I would share.
KC has 96 less total games, so carried out to match the same number of games, he would have about 8000 more yards then AS. That's a lot of production. KC's Completion percentage is a good cut above AS's (65.5 to 62.37) KC is horrid Mon and Thursday (in win loss records not stats, he is 1 - 10 in 11 Monday or Thursday games with 13 INTs to 17 TDs) AC is better (13 - 8, 12 INTs to 26 TDs) KC has much more of a swing in his completion percentage through the season - breaking it by quarters or months his completion % difference is nearly 6 percentage point difference. AS is more consistent - only a 2% difference. Neither does well in dome or retractable roofs (bit odd I think) KC is 1-8 all time, AS is 11 - 13. I know these are just stats. I just found them interesting in seeing what we might be getting. I think the best way to sum it up is a slightly lesser quality but a lot more consistent passer. |
Re: The FINAL Kirk Cousins Saga thread. 5.0
Being JACKED to be a Redskin:
Kirk Cousins: 0 Alex Smith: 1 That's my favorite stat in favor of AS. |
Zero chance Kirk's deal doesn't exceed JG's.
Aren't you the same guy that said JG would only get $20 mil a year? I don't know why you don't realize JG has started his career like no other and the sky is the limit. While at the same time Kirk has limitations and will never sniff elite (top 5) status. Kirk is no bum, but he is fringe top 10 and will rise no higher. |

I thought JG’s ceiling was Carr’s number to be honest... but I’m not overly surprised. Just like it won’t be a surprise when Kirk tops it. I think it’s a bit silly to say Kirk can’t continue to improve his game. |

I want to believe that too, but just the fact that he had to go through "star trek vulcan mind tricks" to the tune that he has to structure every moment of his life in order to not be raddled come game time, makes me wonder. That's a little bizarre to me. I admit I don't know all the details about this discipline of his, but I don't think all the other QBs in the league have to do this in order to perform at the highest level. |
